2023 Courage in Journalism Awardee María Teresa Montaño Delgado

Mexican investigative journalist María Teresa Montaño Delgado risks her life to expose corruption in her home country - and has been active in this work for more than 30 years.
Despite near-constant abuse - including state-sanctioned espionage - Montaño continued to report. In 2020, Montaño launched The Observer, which specializes in investigative journalism and fact-checking, and is open to all audiences.
In August 2021, Montaño was kidnapped, and her reporting equipment and personal technology was confiscated. Following her release, Montaño went into exile in Spain until late 2022.
