dude i love drawing background so much and i only realized recently but its so fun to flesh out a character by their surroundings. what sort of places do they go what sort of trinkets do they own what do they like to see and be around most its just. so fun.!
That's an in-demand skill! But yeah, figuring out the most appealing way to blend your style of characters with your environments can be a very long and tricky process.
I really feel the same way. I never really had much problem with objects and machines or sceneries, but drawing characters is a fucking nightmare. I just have no idea how the proportions of the human body work. It's super frustrating and it's one of the main reasons I gave up on drawing. It's just super frustrating to know that I have this perfect drawing of GlaDos from Portal with all the intricate machinery and wiring, but I can't draw a fucking simple humanoid character for the life of me. One of the main reasons I wanted to draw was because I wanted to bring my imaginary characters to life. But that dream got sadly crushed lol. My respect goes out to character artists. I seriously don't understand how they do it, it's actually like arcane magic to me. The human body, and organic bodies in general, are just too fluid and curvy. It's so difficult to comprehend that shape in a 2D space. What pisses me off the most is that some people don't even use construction but they still make really good character designs. Just think of every cartoon you've ever watched. How the fuck did they give Phineas a triangular head and still make it look good. It's wild. I just can't understand that. (For context this is when I was just learning to draw from scratch, and I haven't drawn anything in like 3 years since then lol.)
@@qwertydavid8070 Yes! That's the problem I have! My characters are kinda simple and cartoonish so whenever I see anyone draw detailed characters I'm sure to tell them how great of an artist they are! I've always felt drawing backgrouns so easy compared to characters. Also, please don't give up :( You shouldn't try to overcomplicate them with detailed characters. Try making cartoonish characters and then you'll be slowly progressing towards detailed characters. I know you can do it!
I only draw backgrounds if the reference picture has one otherwise I'll just splash random colours a blur it in a way that looks colourful but still makes you focus on the painting

I think your picture looks great but you need to learn value, your hair looked a bit saturated while standing in the dark place meanwhile me personally that shades at the face could’ve done better. Good idea, I think you have your own styles but you could improve more tbh.
I HATE having a white background, so I normally add shadows or sometimes stars, I add something. I don't spend HOURS on a background when the only thing people are going to pay attention to is the main thing I drew, but I Make it as expressive as possible. Three days grade school, three days high school. Those were awkward. Three days college. I'm glad I took a day and hitchhiked around the hive. You did come back different. - Hi, Barry. - Artie, growing a mustache? Looks good. - Hear about Frankie? - Yeah. - You going to the funeral? - No, I'm not going. Everybody knows, sting someone, you die. Don't waste it on a squirrel. Such a hothead. I guess he could have just gotten out of the way. I love this incorporating an amusement park into our day. That's why we don't need vacations. Boy, quite a bit of pomp... under the circumstances. - Well, Adam, today we are men. - We are! - Bee-men. - Amen! Hallelujah! Students, faculty, distinguished bees, please welcome Dean Buzzwell. Welcome, New Hive Oity graduating class of... ...9:15. That concludes our ceremonies. And begins your career at Honex Industries! Will we pick ourjob today? I heard it's just orientation. Heads up! Here we go. Keep your hands and antennas inside the tram at all times. - Wonder what it'll be like? - A little scary. Welcome to Honex, a division of Honesco and a part of the Hexagon Group. This is it! Wow. Wow. We know that you, as a bee, have worked your whole life to get to the point where you can work for your whole life."
is my favorite background- great space filler
It's the fucking bee movie script.
but hey give this man a raise
"Hmm it doesn't feel quite right? Oh I know what to do"
*[MAKE A LITTLE ROTATION AT COLOUR BACKGROUND]*
hmm yes the floor here is made out of floor
Yeah, that’s definitely what happened in the video. Good job
The goats who leave it completely blank
Me clicking on this video was pure neuron activation.
Always link your drawing to a specific scenery that way the background is easy to choose, either it's malicious (green/purple), solitude, nostalgia (warm and cold colors combined), enraged (warm to fiery), or just happy (saturated and bright colors)
no one cares about the background
@@mrosskneclearly no one cared about you, if you felt the need to say this

@@mrosskne you need to cope as well, buddy. I think you're on A grade Copium.
@@STINGERY234 lol seething
dude i love drawing background so much and i only realized recently but its so fun to flesh out a character by their surroundings. what sort of places do they go what sort of trinkets do they own what do they like to see and be around most its just. so fun.!
The way his layers are called “ligma” and “suckma” made my day.
the one frame text is bee movie script
I’m the exact opposite lmao. I can only draw landscapes, but characters? They’re terrifying
Finally a fellow Bee movie fan
for anyone wanting to know what the text at the end said, it's the bee movie script.
Me, looking at the thumbnail:
*How did I ever think I was straight?*
When you do that background in a pencil sketch it actually looks nice and makes your character pop more
I just use gradients for things I draw because gradients are cool
I FEEL CALLED OUT-
That god damn single frame of the bee movie script, I- I just can't stop laughing.
WHAT 😱, BEES CAMT FLY ?? 😮
To me it happens the exact opposite. I suck at drawing characters but I draw decent backgrounds
That's an in-demand skill!
But yeah, figuring out the most appealing way to blend your style of characters with your environments can be a very long and tricky process.
Background artists are viable in literally EVERY type of media. Games, shows, illustrations, quite literally every form of art related to drawing
I NEED YOU
I really feel the same way.
Also, please don't give up :(
You shouldn't try to overcomplicate them with detailed characters. Try making cartoonish characters and then you'll be slowly progressing towards detailed characters. I know you can do it!
Yeah, that sounds about right. Been doing that with a lot of art lol.
Sick rendering btw! Wish I could do that.
I love how the one frame of the bee movie script.
meanwhile me who goes a single contrast color and some gradient
I only draw backgrounds if the reference picture has one otherwise I'll just splash random colours a blur it in a way that looks colourful but still makes you focus on the painting
When I first looked at the picture, I thought this was a burrito, bit when I looked more, I saw a masterpiece-🤧💕
"This one's looking good."
Agreed.
“According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way that a bee should be able to fly. Its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee, of course, flies anyways. Because bees don't care what humans think is impossible.”
No no no! You should have gotten a slightly darken white with a bit of gradient
That one degree angle always changes the entire image
As an artist, I can in fact confirm that this is how we draw backgrounds.
I literally went through the end of the video frame by frame just to see what the text at the end said
I am not disappointed honestly it made me laugh
What does It says?
@@flyingorange2482it’s the bee movie script LOL
That's so relatable
Legit used this for my coursework in IT, worked a treat, did orange and blue tilted to contrast each other

All my pain in one vid
i just spent like 5 minutes with it slowed all the way down just to be met with the bee movies script and that was one of the funniest things ive experienced 10/10
A perfect tummy
Sometimes simple backgrounds are better than detailed backgrounds
I watched this because of neuron activation and I refuse to hide it
For anyone wondering what the millisecond of text said:
According to all known laws of aviation, there is no way a bee should be able to fly, its wings are too small to get its fat little body off the ground. The bee of course, flies anyway because bees don't care what humans think is impossible. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Yellow, black. Ooh, black and yellow! Let's shake it up a little. btw, this was from the Bee Movie :)
Every my new detail counts in art
my nerves are getting activated for no reason
The thumbnail
is no one gonna talk about how the character layer is named ''ligma''???
The off center rectangle has been haunting me for months
for a split second the bee movie script at the end
I was making my profile picture earlier but didn't want a blank background so I changed the whole scene to make it a rainy day lol but I usually just do the gradient background and sometimes add some lightnings and random sparkles maybe.
I think your picture looks great but you need to learn value, your hair looked a bit saturated while standing in the dark place meanwhile me personally that shades at the face could’ve done better. Good idea, I think you have your own styles but you could improve more tbh.
@@Carlito54541__ Yeah I definitely need to learn how to shade and add shadows
Gosh why is this me💀
Love the whole explanation on bees 🐝
I HATE having a white background, so I normally add shadows or sometimes stars, I add something. I don't spend HOURS on a background when the only thing people are going to pay attention to is the main thing I drew, but I Make it as expressive as possible. It's a rule I made for myself, I have 10 minutes to make a nice expressive background, that way I make it look good without it taking up so much time.

I KNEW THAT WAS GOING TO HAPPEN PLS I'M WHEEZING 💀
My brain died the second I saw that paragraph about laws of aviation
Well the thing is, Your drawing is what should have attention, Not the background. However if you make the background blurry it’ll look way better, But generally, I still like it without because some backgrounds have a lot of unnecessary details that catch your eye even when blurred. That distracts.
As someone who was never an artist, i see this as an absolute win.
I love to see an enitre Bee movie scrip at the end ngl
He really put the bee movie script in at the end for no reason.
I just pick to colors and blend. Works most of the time :P
Why is thumbnail belly?
I was half-expecting the zoom out to reveal that instead of a stomach it was a tree trunk or something similar.
This is pretty much accurate, that or the entire thing is 2 colors that fade into eachother for me
