phil is one of the last biggest pieces of pantera hes only human and god damn it he deserves more respect hes been thru so much shit cant believe hes still alive
andrew salas honest to god between all the drugs and fights and everything it’s hard to imagine he’s one of the last men standing. Technically he was the first to die but yet he’s still here
I went to high school near Arlington TX in the late 2000s and Pantera was still a huge deal among the metal heads. They’ve always been my fav metal band, nobody else comes close. Both of my parents are in the same cemetery as the Abbott brothers. I visit them every time I visit my parents.
man its no wonder Phil's lyrics are so amazing - every word that comes out of his mouth is like a powerful speech, and every phrase is quotable. and most importantly, its all off the top of his head and from the heart, so there is no bullshit - and his lyrics are exactly the same.
I'd love to talk to Phil for whole day long. Hear stories of the old Pantera and stories from his life and everything else. Such an interesting person.
Phil is a fucking legend...You can say what you want about what happend to Dime (RIP) but never forget that. This guy has one of the biggest voices in all of Metal. Nothing will ever change that.
Why don't they ever talk about Great Southern Trend Kill, that album to me is the pinnacle of Pantera. It's not the innovator like Vulgar or the game changer like Far Beyond Driven but it was the pinnacle. It brought every part of Pantera that rocks, in my opinion.
@@the6ig6adwolf AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YOUR COMMENT IS ONE OF THE MOST BADASS, SICKEST AND BRUTAL COMMENTS EVER AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I LAUGHING SO MUCH AFTER I SAW YOUR BRUTAL COMMENT
pt 2. Phil has much regret from those days and you can tell because hes much more sincere nowadays. Read the lyrics from "I scream" from down's third album. He mourns the loss of his brothers. Really is a sad story every which way you look at it. But at least i have a shitload of awesome music that they made that i pump into my ears on a daily basis, and for that Phil...I say thank you.
This guy doesn't age....which is amazing considering he spent his mid twenties to mid thirties on all sorts of pain killers and heroin. Can't wait for the a new Down tour and album.
if i had no idea about Phil Anselmo or Pantera or wdva, and i just listened to the guy speak, i would think: do you write lyrics? or poetry ? or something?! koz every fuckin sentance that comes out of his mouth is so inspiring and well said ! no wonder Pantera lyrics rock so fuckin hard !
Man I love Pantera and Down and Phil. I met him twice, but he should "prepare" more for mainstream interviews. He looks opiatic!!!! Yeah I said that shit...... Real talk. Love ya Phil. Get in line!!! Getcha pull
I think the reason people think he is still on drugs is,because he is southern and has a southern draw.I live in Texas and I people thought I was on drugs. Like Phil I think before I think most of the time. That is the best thing to do. The 20th Anniversary edition of CBFH was great. Looking forward to VDOP remaster. The original album mixes sounded fine.The extra live audio was fucking brutal!
hard to believe after all the hard years with drug addiction, and all the alcohol and smoking, phil still looks like hes 25 years old...fuckin love phil, and yes i understand how vinnie could still be hard hearted toward phil, but phil has expressed multiple times his sincere sorrow for how everything turned out...but regardless of what was said and wat might have been said, it was all during a dark time in phils life in terms of herion addiction...
I've been noticing that this guy's voice pitch says how clean he is, I mean his voice sounds almost like the pitch of corey taylor voice, he is not drunk or high in this interview.
then after dimebag died, phil got a hold of rex (who played bass with phil in down and had been keeping in contact with phil) and told him to let him talk to rita (dimes girlfriend) and she basically didnt allow him to come to the funeral....today, phil has been clean of hard drugs for about 8 years, and has since apologized many times, has reconciled with alot of people, including rita, dimes girlfriend, and has said he wants to reconcile with vinnie, but vinnie doesnt want to.
What happened to Phil in the nineties was a byproduct of their huge success. Read the lyrics to becoming, i mean jesus, "Becoming Godsize", or hard lines, sunken cheeks where he says "I drink all day, I smoke all day, I took your daughters breath away, IVE DONE IT ALL BUT TAP THE VEIN".... One can make an argument that he broke pantera up, but i think he also helped get panteras music out there in the first place, and we need to remember that.
What the hell happened with his voice in the last half a decade or more?... Cause, I mean, he sounds a lot clearer here than anything more recent than this... Now he has that low grumbling going on. - Is it actually smoking?...
@TrainingStream Lulz, yeah....... Of course the human voice changes with age as does everything else, my point is that he's doing better vocally, physically, and mentally than he has in like 15 years, It's simply awesome to see, rather than another Layne Staley case. Are you a musician?
@HeavyMetalBeliever Why wouldn't Rex? Rex is still in good terms with Phil because of Down. The only reason he's not with them now, or the past year, was because he had his surgery.
There is going to be no Pantera reunion. Get it out of your heads, for one Phil in a sometime recent interview said no way in hell it could happen. It's not there anymore really if you think about it. The band isn't unified like it once was, which was the whole mold by the way. Phil doesn't have the vocals to do Pantera anymore anyway. I just hope somewhere down the line Phil and Vinnie play a show eventually, cover tunes, anything, just to be cool with each other. That's their lives though.
phil is one of the last biggest pieces of pantera hes only human and god damn it he deserves more respect hes been thru so much shit cant believe hes still alive
andrew salas honest to god between all the drugs and fights and everything it’s hard to imagine he’s one of the last men standing. Technically he was the first to die but yet he’s still here
yeah, from all those drugs he did back then and his BACK being fucked from everything i would of thought phil would of died before dime or vince
He might love his own voice. But he's very intersting, charismatic and got a ton of wisdom to share
I went to high school near Arlington TX in the late 2000s and Pantera was still a huge deal among the metal heads. They’ve always been my fav metal band, nobody else comes close. Both of my parents are in the same cemetery as the Abbott brothers. I visit them every time I visit my parents.
R.I.P.🙏

Because hes The Kid
he still look the same he is just kinda fat because of the beer

Trendkill is awesome start to finish.
Trendkill is my favorite Pantera album.
Soooo true. The album is criminally overlooked and def my go to when I wanna punch through glass.
Southern trend kill was raw
10s is an amazing piece of music
I'm watching this interview about the 20th anniversary of cowboys from hell on its 30th anniversary. Time is moving fast.

HE IS FUCKIN AWESOME. PERIOD.
Rubber can walk through walls?? Learn something new every day. Thanks Phil.
Moral of the story.... Rubber can walk.... Through walls... So says Phil. Accept your new understanding of "rubber".
Alek Hall that was my taking too
I WANT A REUNION!!!!!
i'm thinking a reunion is definitely in the cards...maybe 2011!
I love phil, he can be both a rging maniac and a deep thinker

PHILS IS THE MAN.....
It’s called when your parents tell you can’t do something prove them wrong, but do it 10 times better and more successful

You're wrong bro.....Pantera is recognized as metal legends by many even now.......here in Nepal....I'm a Pantera fan too... :D

Love ya Phil.
Get in line!!!
Getcha pull
@hullett29 Well, Rex is on good terms with Phil. Not sure about Vinnie and Phil. Rex is actually in his own band now, so not sure how that'll work
I think the reason people think he is still on drugs is,because he is southern and has a southern draw.I live in Texas and I people thought I was on drugs. And now he never will.
True.
Phil is so cool
holy shit dude ! I am from poland and there arent many pantera fans here but seriously nepal ? :D thats awsome !
This interviewer's hair and beard make him look like Charlie Day from It's Always Sunny.
where's the rest of this interview?!
Phil rules
We were the village green, preservation society!
Where is videos 3-5 at?
🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Dimebag was not going to be this "Slayer-esque" type player, he was going to play in key.
yeaa...no problem...if you wanna know more on pantera i would highly suggest the book rex brown just released about pantera, its really good
@MuzikSuite amen bro!
Cowboys From Hell is their best album imo
Dont do drugs, kids... Just say no.
Don’t you get what the music in the microphone and someone with a powerful voice is supposed to stand for
Phil is very QL ! Always did like him ! And was afraid of him ,always :)))))
And Heroin and a big head was his Kryptonite
What happened to Phil in the nineties was a byproduct of their huge success. thats true, slayer solos although heavy are usually off key, guess thats their style. but pantera delivered heavyness and moving solos
@mattwilliamson25 It won't be too long until he does, Rita Haney has already settled her differences with Phil and they now regularly email each other
Phil has the sexiest voice ever XD
@Super45Metal agree 100% man
This guy needs to narrate a nature documentary.
Where's pt 3, 4, and 5??
He actually sounds sober.
Because after Pantera's break up there was a bit of gossip going around that Phil hated Dime to the point where he thought he should've been killed.
that was a media comment right there :P
Just talking he sounds like a fucking Metal Machine. He just sound Metal as fuck
@Jasonsoul1 im with ya brother CFH 4 LIFE !!!!! pantera is also my favorite band
part 3, 4, 5??
0:01 There's a school bus. :)

@roketfingers maybe this was the only on that counted lol :)
3 -4 and 5?
@viktorazisten i just looked up his age cause i was thinking the same thing hes always looked the same, hes 43 now
Do u have parts 3, 4 and 5?
@Juan Morales lol Phil was just as big a part of Pantera as Dimebag was, whether you want to admit it or not.
To be honest, he was the biggest part of Pantera for me. Brought the attitude and a voice you can't mistake
lucky bastard

1:42, its funny, ty tabor said exactly the same thing
You mean Phil?
@theBeorn
Somehow he reminds me of charlie sheen :o Not in a bad way :)
@mayoazzzza LOOOOOL. You rule! xD

This guy Is such a burnout
@Witchback Great Yes. He is.
