I think the tetsubo is also a monster weapon only right now in the mountain oni stat block in Monster Core. But won't be shocked if it's presented in the weapons in this book. Edit ah it is in the book on page 127 in the entry here. That makes sense.
The goofy thing for Oni Weapon Familiarity is that it lets you treat the Advanced nodachi as a Simple weapon.
HWAT
I think Oni Weapon Familiarity really should've given you training with the Great Club. Oni are very much associated with _kanabo_ which are essentially just great clubs.
That's what Tetsubo is for.
Wait, they can treat Nodachi as... SIMPLE weapons ???
On my way, I have a ruffian rogue sneak attacking with a d8, reach, deadly d12, brace SIMPLE weapon to create 👀
1st only for proficiency, it's still an advanced weapon.
2nd "This benefit doesn't apply to a simple weapon with a damage die greater than d8 or a martial or advanced weapon with a damage die greater than d6. (Apply any abilities that alter the damage die size first.)" Which would include the deadly d12.
Basically the only classes that benefits from it being simple over martial is druid and monk, and neither get feats that go with it.
Oni form has concentrate. yay. love how the ancestry that would be so great thematically for barbarian doesn't work.
Yay
Yet they give Flury of blows as. just by picking Spirit Warrior archetype.
Wtf
I mean, you can go Giant Instinct or Moment of Clarity and it would still work and be thematic.
@@lunaris6096 uh... Sustain + moment of clarity leaves 1 action per turn....
Well, the level 9 upgrade removes the sustain part and gives you reach on top, I would not mind having the option to go large on any instinct at the cost of a couple of ancestry feats and a single level 1 feat.
Once more I am asking you for Tian Kobolds.
huh, kishin rage not put you into your oni form if you have it?
would've expected it to do
About Kishin Rage... I'd say that Blood Sense might also work for some monsters who are either 1) constantly dripping blood, or 2) MADE of blood. You know, like horrifying undead or skinless fey (wha't s the name of that ugly half man-half horse? The Nuckelavee?).
About to play in a campaign once the next book releases, and strongly considering this! Thanks for the great Pf2e content as always.
I had a tiefling character for a Season of Ghosts game before it died. If I ever get the chance to play SoG again I might reimagine them as a Hungerseed with how cool these feats look :0
Would love to see the magical girl archetype, the yaoguai and samsaran heritages, and a collection of the new feats for existing classes at some point! (I saw Inventors can now team up with their Construct Innovations to do a sweet roundhouse kick :0 )
I knew thare had a reason I randomly started stacking Oni minis recently! XD
the character concepts come together too easy lately with these tian xia books. im so excited!
Now I'm curious to see just how different the Yaoguai ancestry is. I know they're different origins but they seem very connected
Really, really, really hoping you'll cover the Wandering Chef and Alchemical Foods in your next video.
I really wanna know about Travelling Chef
Kishin rage demoralizing nearby allies is pretty funny. Technically you could pregame the fights to give them immunity to it.
Oni form's large on demand can also help for athletics-related stuff and whirling throw. The former so you're big enough to actually grapple/trip/etc the target, the latter to get a bonus for being larger than them (or less penalty if smaller)
Wait a minute the nodachi is an advanced weapon and it counts as simple weapon if you have the weapon feat.
Good vid BLG... Hungerseed looks to be quite flavorful.
I am also curious as to how many, and what types, of new weapons and armours have been added in the book, alongside the Tetsubo and Ogre Hook.
The Hungerseeds sound amazing and really fun to play! I like the design direction that Paizo is taking with Tian Xia, they are finally getting a bit bolder on their designs, instead of erring on the weak side.
May we please see some of the companions / familiars next?
4:56 surprised Ogre hook is stated in the feat instead of the weapons section?
The hungerseed looks awesome
plz do the familiar sage
Those Class DC traits sometimes worry. Some classes have horrible class DC paths. Like the Fighter and Barbarian
Deg agree on hungerseed replacing tiefling. I'm a consummate edgelord and bundling tieflings into nephilim was a massive disservice to the ancestry. Hungerseed, Yaksha, Yaoguai, and Dragonblood are now my go to races.
Large typically grants reach per page 421 of the Player Core. I would be hard pressed not to give reach to oni form.
Bloodsoaked Dash is pretty shitty since most people have trick magic item and buy a wand with tailwind (2nd)
Which is why a lot of GMs ban the Tailwind spell.
Another great vid - thanks BLG! Storming Gaze with Tempest Gaze sounds so good! Super thematic for a Heavenseeker monk. Unfortunately, you need to pick between it and Oni Rampage which seems really, really good!
Do you think you'll cover the kitsune updates in Tian Xia?
If enough people ask
I'd love a video for any ancestry updates in general from this book. In fact, if there's more than 1,just make it all one video imo
Thanks for the video as always! I personally find there isn't much there. Some cool feats (particularly the one connected to be damaged and the last) but I feel there is some unnecessary feat tax. The 1d4 rounds is often usually one per battle and one per is maybe every one or two. So in many cases the second feat option is probably almost always going to be the one used. The first Oni feat does almost nothing and it is in some cases ridiculous. If you are tiny for example you are going to have 0 reach even if you are large. I understand it mechanically but how is that possible from a narrative point of view. I would have preferred a single feat, potentially higher level if there is a balance issue. Anyway. I am currently planning a character for Season of Ghosts and I still haven't decided on the character so keep going... ❤ I'm probably more interested in ancestry options as I have an idea for the class.
I was hungry (pun intended) for any info on this heritage! Thank you so much for covering this!
Ok yea this viseo makes me want to play the warrior muse bard with a oni. It gives a lot of good martial abilities that bards can lack a little of
Ya I had higher hopes for this. I used to run my hungerseed character as an orc tiefling since Oni were once fiends and it worked so much better for the monsterous PC I was trying to play. And I am going to keep doing that with GM permission but I am not taking this heritage
You could make a Giant Barbarian Hungerseed that just has a easier time tapping into their Oni abilities. Since they get the same bonuses.
Hungerseeds were one of the many badass planetouched from PF1. They were considered teiflings and I’d love to see more standalone heritages like this. Bring back Beastbrood and Spitespawn. Shackleborn! All Aasimar ones I can never remember. Haha.
Beastbrood and Shackleborn are in 2e! Both got added in the ancestry guide, so while they weren't reprinted in Nephilim they are available to take.
Spitespawn currently aren't however
We also got Faultspawn in Lost Omen : Impossible Lands !
@@ori9830 I guess I meant more like I want to see them get a unique build like this. Though, you’re right. I did mostly pick examples that exist pre-remaster. 😂 Those were just my favorites and the only ones I could recall off the top of my head.
@@legomojo That's fair! Tho the reason we got Hungerseed pulled out is because the lore has chagned to better reflect the inspirations and real world material of Oni not being a type of demon, but their own separate thing. Hopefully we'll see some more interesting takes tho!
i dont get the benefit of the oni form.
There is some fringe benefits from being large, such as being better able to lock down choke points with your body, being un grapple/trip/shove/disarm/reposistion-able by small creatures, being able to grapple one size higher without titan wrestler, and a wider profile for reaction space or engaging enemies. Thats kind of it, but its not nothin
emanations and auras around you become a bit bigger when you become large, making this a decent level 1 choice for champions, especially with justice cause
@@rileymcleran2895 Also, full-blooded Oni are Large (or bigger), hence the disguise bit if you are trying to impersonate one and how long you can sustain it.
basic summary... you become large but are clumsy 1. you dont get any other buffs from it. and can remain in it for 10mins but have to rest 10mins after you do.
level 9 for another feat you get +5ft reach (so already out 2 ancestry feats)
You could just.. take Minotaur or awakened animal with it and be large forever without any de-buffs from clumsy... I feel like they screwed up adding the clumsy condition at level 1
it should instead just let you become large size without any debuffs or buffs
then at level 9 you gain the full effects of enlarge with clusmy, reach, and damage buff.
as a beastkin at level 13 becomes enlarged forever and gains all the effects of enlarge for a single feat.
@@Luluthebluemoon Being large all the time is also a debuff, since some areas are difficult to squeeze through. Minotaur also requires entering a stance to get reach, which means they can't benefit from any other kind of stance. Considering this is a versatile heritage that you can put on top of ANY ancestry, imo it's probably fair that it's not quite on par with Minotaur anyway. Beastkin is 4 levels later but you have more of a point there.
I don't agree with removing Clumsy, but I think they could have at least given Oni the +2 status bonus to melee damage to bring it in line with the enlarge spell.
This is really underwhelming. Cool narrative, disappointing execution.
