Iron Maiden were the first live band I ever saw. It was at ‘The Cart and Horses’ at Stratford in London in 1976. They had a regular spot there on Friday nights, saw them many times. Dave Stratton also used to play in a band called Remus Down Boulevard (RDB) at a pub called ‘The Bridge House’ in Canning Town. Great days for live bands!
I found Maiden just after Piece of Mind came out. I had bought that cassette (dating myself here) and Number of the beast. I was blown away by both of those albums and played them non stop. Then I started going backwards in their catalog and found Iron Maiden, Killers and Maiden Japan and then started digging into their imports. I am still a HUGE fan of those first 2 albums as well as Maiden Japan. As other have said they were so raw back then. I love both versions of Maiden but those first 2 albums I dig into probably more than the rest.
Back in 1992 Iron maiden was the band that could do no wrong in my eyes. I bought FOTD as a kid and was blown away. Bought every album that came before that one with allowance money. And guess what? Not a single bad album. No band could top that. Priest were my fav band, but even they had stinkers.

But the more raw punk metal energy of the band during Iron Maiden & Killers are my favorites of their catalogue too. Some people just prefer this sound & energy to the more prog-refined sound they devolved into as they went forward.
