I loved this video, thank you so much for filming and sharing. Your remarks throughout the video, showing us the failed attempts and then ending it with the "stay happy and motivated" remark was wonderful.
I just wanted to thank you ! this video is the reason I tried resin, and I haven't stopped since! i've been constantly at it for the past 2 months and I love it ! I've made over 300 pieces so far ! You such an inspiration :)
I absolutely loved your tutorial but your personality is fantastic!! Love that you share your mistakes too. They’re extremely valuable. Thank you for doing this and sharing your knowledge and awe inspiring talents.
Awesome job, they look great! And I loved the way you showed and talked about the failures, thanks a lot for sharing that. People are always trying to take short cuts, not here. Thanks again
I love your charisma.. Usually I couldn't watch a 20 minute tutorial, but your character made it interesting. And your great talent for resins of course.
Thanks for this video, very helpful. What I liked best was how you showed all the ones that were failures, but you kept persisting to achieve the results you got. As my wife always says, if you don't make mistakes, you make nothing
Since I seen where you use a crock pot to keep your resin warm. I have been heating up water and putting my resin and it has worked wonders. Thank you for the tip!
This if for my fellow UK crafters: If like me you spent hours and hours searching the net for cello glitter with no avail I finally found some. After searching cello glitter, sello glitter, cellophane glitter, gilding glitter, random cut glitter, snow glitter, iridescent glitter Ice glitter... I finally found MYLAR glitter. :-) Yay, I am gonna love making these. Thanks for the tutorial.
Beautiful, thanks for the demonstration. I have a few of similar jewels from my grandmother, when she was a young woman, she used to do these, only with dry little flowers. Also, it wouldn't be probably difficult to add a little loop / ring or two to the back of the "stones" while pouring the second layer, to create a button or a bead. No drilling needed that way. Thanks once more.
I had been searching all over for the cellophane glitter, no luck. But I came across chopped metal leaf. It has gold, bronz, copper colors. I am going to give this a try and hope I get similar results. It can be found in most craft stores. Yours are just so beautiful ! I have been watching almost all your video's, you are a great teacher. You never give up, try different things and you end up with amazing results. I have only done one batch of resin cabs, hope the next ones come out better.
Glitter Flakes on Amazon, company called supermart- comes in crystal, lavender, light blue, turquois, pink. Pretty inexpensive they are gorgeous. Thanks for all your tutorials, very well done
love this video. you can find the cello iridescent tissue paper at most dollar tree stores and it comes n lots of colors. and i normally make my own mylar and glitter out of it by cutting it up very fine and its only a dollar and the other one in this video is like $4 at my local Michael's.
My lady you gave me a big laugh the time you spoke about the camera :-D I love you, you made my day and of course thank you about telling us the right and wrongs with molding!!! :-)
I tried this but couldn't get mica powder, so I waited till my first layer was completely hard then painted the back with black nail polish. Then when that dried I filled it with clear resin. They came out really good. I like how yours look.
I have a bunch of this cello glitter that I used to decorate some stocking holders I made last Christmas. The glitter shown in the video is from Michaels, I think I found pink and this bluish purple color, maybe green too there. At Hobby Lobby, in the party supply section, they sell it in different colors, its sold in clear bags and they have a lot more in them. Hope this helps!!! I'm going to go get started on some beautiful opalescent resin domes! Thanks for sharing your tutorial! :)
When working with epoxy resin which ET-Lite is basically, I've seen people use colored chalk powder mixed with the resin. I guess this would work with the Envio-Tex Lite. I've used Envio-Tex Lite for years with great results, but never colored it. Have to try that. Thanks for the video.
You can also get the cellophane at hobby lobby in the wedding supplies. But it's confetti, and the have it in green pink red purple and white. Also you can use a few drops of artist inks in place of the mica.
This is very close to the way real opal triplets are made. first, they cut a dome of clear quartz, then they cut a slice of opal, then they cut a background slice of black stone like black onyx. then they glue them together and polish them.
Beautiful art :) You were saying if you could find the iridescent cellophane in sheets you would buy it and cut up your own glitter. Try checking Floral wholesales . When I was a florist years ago we could buy it for the shop in big rolls... I used to use it when making displays for weddings..so pretty. We used to order from Norfolk Wholesale and Virginia Beach wholesale.. I can't remember which one carried it.. I'm sure you could find it on rolls online, good luck
Great Presentation! Cannot wait to try this out myself. FYI- Many online nail supply companies sell "Mylar Flakes" which I believe are comparable to the cello flakes you had on hand. They usually sell a rainbow of iridescent colors in smaller quantities, but pretty nonetheless.
Hi, Just beautiful! I love pearl, abalone, and things that looks like that. Your art work looks almost like abalone. Thank you for sharing your trials and errors, that is a big plus. And, you kept trying, good for you. Thank You for sharing, and the video.
Thank you for showing your mess ups. I'm trying for the first time and a bit discouraged because my first few haven't turning up. I'm having some of the same problems you did. I see that there could be hope for me :)
Things to try for more realism: experiment with shredded gold leaf and silver leaf (avail from Michael's and Hobby Lobby) and mixing with colored iridescent glitter. Also try shredding colored iridescent mylar foil in a blender or coffee grinder to get irregular shapes and sizes. Finally, add a bit of black tint to the first pour to emulate that smoky look of black opal.
Kent Hartland I tried that last night with a few charms. The pieces came out nicely. You should teach a class. Good information and pointers. If you do any DIY videos on RUclips sent me your link. Thanks for your input!
I just watched this for the first time tonight, It is Dec 1. 2018. I am glad I looked and saw your comment. I have a LOT of of the gold leaf and in fact I have it in a lot of different colors. Like Coppers and Gold mixed with Verdigres leaf...You can buy it now in craft stores already torn to bits and there is a lot in each container for about $10.00. I am a card maker, so I use it for that. Love your other ideas too!
When buying the cellophane sheets at the dollar tree or wherever, use a cross cutting shredder machine to achieve the chunky pieces. To have easy release from the mold, use a bit of pam spray or just buy the mold release spray at your closest craft supply.
True. You want to mix thoroughly but not like you're whipping and egg. Also, as she mentioned in the video, make sure you scrape the sides and bottom super duper well, repeatedly, as you stir to make sure you mix it all in.
I have also waited about 2 hours after adding cellophane and added glitter to make the same effect, then to smooth it just add a thin layer of clear resin when it a dries also known as doming with a clear layer and it has a beautiful effect.
I bought the glitter retail at the craft store. I'm getting all kinds of messages that there are sheets of the stuff you can buy, and there's a great response video I just posted to this one from a viewer in Italy who uses exactly that.
I know this video is pretty old now, but I just learned that resin is a thing? Wow, I'm behind the times! So I started looking for videos and found this one. Love these fauxpals! I love the real thing, but they are way too tiny and don't usually have enough "flash," so to be able to make your own flashy fauxpals is a great idea! And you can make GINORMOUS one! Also..."this camera sucks. Piece o' crap." Nice honest personality. Also good to show the mistakes. Mistakes are how we learn!
As much trouble as I've had living in NW Montana finding supplies, I thought I'd tell you where you can get what you need. I went to ebay and put in the search bar "Ice resin, envirotech"and not only did I find that, but I found a combination package with the putty I wanted to make molds. The whole package was only $35, no shipping cost. Cool huh?Oh AND all the cups and sticks and everything one needs to get started came w/it.
Dollar Tree carries the iridescent cello sheets ( in the gift stationary section. They use it as tissue paper) They have a few different colors, green, blue, clear...
Thank you so much for this tutorial. I have been looking allover the internet for a tutorial on black Opals, (love them to death) and none has given me so much as you . There are room for so much variations, just have to try it. I live in Denmark, and cannot get resin here, so have to buy it via Amazon, hopefully the danish custom service let it go trough ;) Good luck to you in the future
If you are looking for that cellophane in sheet form, try cheap Christmas wrapping paper from the "dollar store". Its cheap, you get a lot of it and lots of colors. Try the foil types also. A paper shredder or different styles of pinking shears would help. Great video.
I found the Cello Glitter at Michaels and it came in the blue and in a white opalescent color. They might sell it online. I haven't tried this yet. I have some soap colorant I'm hoping will work (in place of the mica). Baby steps! Great video...
Yes, that's a Michaels brand but for some reason they only carry one color AB clear here. Did some, some came out OK some didn't. Thanks for responding.
Dollar Tree carries shredded strips of iridescent cellophane. Very e z 2 trim in2 tiny pieces. :-) It is where the pretty shredded gift wrap filler is @. It is very durable, bcuz I use it when I make personalized bookmarks as a pretty string 2 ad beads on the end & make simple knot on end that holds nicely.
try the dollar store in the gift wrap section where they keep tissue they have the cellophane tissue. thank you I enjoyed your video I can't wait to try it myself.
Have you tried grinding/sanding the mistake opals a bit, like the way they make terrazzo floors? After the bits are revealed, it can be polished to a glass-like shine. Maybe they are still salvageable.
Just for information sake, catalytic compounds and resins are wonderful products when used properly. MSDS sheets advise use only in a well ventilated area because as the product cures it gasses off. This product takes up to 40 hours to fully gas off or cure. The gasses are carcinogenic when breathed, therefore what defines a well ventilated area? Power ventilation to the outside atmosphere directly over the "work and cure" surface is preferable or outside use if weather permits is recommended. A respirator is of some value but if the product is left to cure inside a living area the value decreases. Carbon dioxide dissipates bubbles in the product therefore just a lit propane torch quickly waved over the surface of the pour will immediately dissipate all bubbles and leave you with a perfectly clear finished product. Artistry is relaxing, enjoyable and profitable but remember that a large number of artistry products are carcinogenic. That means they have been proven to cause cancer. Always look up the full Material Safety Data Sheet information and read it all very carefully because many products can be vague in fully disclosing carcinogenic properties due to exposure concentrations and conditions. Clear coating your kitchen table, in your kitchen, without proper power ventilation, is "NOT" recommended. Jesus is LORD - love one another.
The hardening process is a catalytic chemical reaction so it will cure even in cool temperatures, it just takes longer. Below freezing however and the rules start to change so that is not recommended.
Melanie Greenwood no 72° F for 3 days to fully cure weather colder or hotter then roughly that can cause resin to not fully cure making it bendy or sticky
I thought about this for the confetti...there's that colored stuff for gift bags like easter grass that comes in all pretty colors and you could cut that up to make your own confetti much cheaper you can buy it at the dollar stores.
I had the bubble problem when I first mixed resin because I mixed the resin too quickly and whipped in a bunch of air. I now mix the two parts together VERY slowly (almost like Im in slow motion) to prevent the bubbles. Also after I pour into the molds I will occasionally run a flame (grill lighter works great) over the surface of the wet resin and it will pop any air bubbles that are close to the top. Hope this helps.
Stunning Teresa, I love them, I have some flakes used in paper making, copper , bronze and gold, I think that would work, I will try x x Have you done any more microwave glass fuzing?
you can heat the resin with a blow dryer or heat gun. if you use a heat gun make sure it's on a very low setting and don't hold either device too close to the bottle.
You are hilarious! I really enjoyed your tutorial video. Very informative, easy to understand, and entertaining to say the least...lol Thank you for that!
Loved your tutorial as I have always wondered how they are made. IF a person wanted to put a hole into one to make a piece of jewelry, lets say a pendant, how would you put the hole in it and at what stage? I Subscribed and gave a thumbs UP! Thank you!
Forgot to tell you with the Famowood (brand) that you have a lot more working time. It takes it a lot longer to set up in the mold, so be sure and let it cure good before removing it from the mold. Also if you get air bubbles when you pour, just blow on it and they come to the top. I found that out the hard way. Really wish you would let me if you do try this stuff, how it works for you. Have been making cabs like crazy.
Hi i was wondering if you could maybe make a video on where you get your materials like the resin, coloring and stuff like that.. Have noticed that a lot of people ask Ed the same question too.. Thanks for all you do for us (your fans lol)
Make sure you stir EXTREMELY well, way more than you think. Try stirring for three full minutes. Also, you want the same amount of both parts, resin and hardener. Measure to be sure you have the same exact amount. Also, don't fuss with it while it's drying. If you move it around or anything while it's drying/hardening/curing then you're going to get a lot of air inside and that will make it cloudy.
I just wanted to mention that I get the sheets of cellophane known as "metallic tissue paper" at the Dollar Tree. I don't know if they have it in your area but in my stores it's near the gift bags and such and guess how much? A dollar. :)
red orange and gold would make pretty Mexican fire opals -- you can usually get the glitter sorry hologram type cellophane sheets at party goods stores or shipping and party supply companies - just shred them - they are in the tissue section of wrapping paper
I am mixing Polyester Resin + 2% MEKP - Hardner in a glass container. Then pour this into mold. some very small amount of this mixture is remain in container. After about 1 hour this id dried and become solid in container HOW TO CLEAN THIS SO I CAN REUSE THE CONTAINER. .
love the idea of the plastic pallette for the cabs. I haven't found molds I like so that is great. Have you tried a party store for the cellophane glitter? I don't remember seeing it at a craft store.
Thank you for this tutorial! I'm thinking about making these using Angelina fantasy films, which I think are similar to the cellophane glitter. I know this video isn't recent, but if you are looking for sheets of reflective paper in multiple colors, you could try using these! :)
thank you for this video i was wondering what to do with my little circle molds. and i love the paint pallet as a mold great idea! wondering if you get your little disposable cups for mixing though? Thanks!
Those are gorgeous! I wonder if for the color you can use food dye, Rit dye and / or easter egg dyes???? Can most of those supplies be purchased at MIchaels or Joanns????
I wonder if you do the first resin with the cellophane. . Let dry.. then do the black resin layer then add a piece of metal to the back laying down in the shape of the circle with a loop like hanging off the side then let dry then another layer if resin then let dry.. could this work to be a pendant? ?? I wonder if it would hold. I'd like to make some as Christmas presents for mothers and grandma. ♥
On the second go-round when it came out successfully, did you let the first layer dry more than the first time ?? Did I miss something, thanks for sharing with us....
So appreciate your showing your disasters as well as your successes! Nice project! Thanks for sharing!
I loved this video, thank you so much for filming and sharing. Your remarks throughout the video, showing us the failed attempts and then ending it with the "stay happy and motivated" remark was wonderful.

Great tutorial. I am just a beginner and making resin charms , and with you , it really help me understand what to do and how to do it.

Thanks SO much for the tutorial! I am going to attempt to make this into drawer knobs!!

You can buy cellphone sheets at the beauty supply. They use the sheets on nails. There's tons of different colors! :) ♡
Thanks a lot from a French creator for this tutorial, my first ones are drying actually and they're already stunning ! :)

Most beautyful that i've seen in the whole network.

hi they r beautiful. i have never tried resin,so was delighted to come accross this vid. i am going to go down this path & c where it takes me.tfs.sue
Beautiful! Good job! Thanks for sharing your talent.
Thank you for showing your mess ups. I'm trying for the first time and a bit discouraged because my first few haven't turning up. I'm having some of the same problems you did. I see that there could be hope for me :)
great tut, you make it all seem so easy, and you do have fun making those.

Great tips Kent Hartland.
Im going to try some of those.
razztazz try adding a little pearl pigment when you make white or blue opals
Kent Hartland I tried that last night with a few charms. The pieces came out nicely.

Also if you get air bubbles when you pour, just blow on it and they come to the top. I found that out the hard way. Really wish you would let me if you do try this stuff, how it works for you. Have been making cabs like crazy.
So cool looking! How could you put holes in them in order to string them?
Wow... really pretty!! I bet those would look fantastic all beaded up :)
I just wanted to mention that I get the sheets of cellophane known as "metallic tissue paper" at the Dollar Tree. I don't know if they have it in your area but in my stores it's near the gift bags and such and guess how much? A dollar. :)
i'm using this as a pendant and i'm wrapping wiring around it and making a hook/hole for the necklace part.
i'm sitting here wondering if the large black opal ring with diamonds i bought could actually be made of rosin??
Lol
Of course it can be made! Check a result of my work with Teak wood, resin, and lab opal!!!
Fantasy film works really well as well, either chop it up into glitter pieces or scrunch it and cut to fit. xx
red orange and gold would make pretty Mexican fire opals -- you can usually get the glitter sorry hologram type cellophane sheets at party goods stores or shipping and party supply companies - just shred them - they are in the tissue section of wrapping paper
Nice and pretty. Gives me some ideas. Thanks.
I am mixing Polyester Resin + 2% MEKP - Hardner in a glass container. Then pour this into mold. some very small amount of this mixture is remain in container. After about 1 hour this id dried and become solid in container HOW TO CLEAN THIS SO I CAN REUSE THE CONTAINER. .
Thanks a lot. .like the way you did it, and your nice personality. .
To make a necklace or dangling cabochon out of your craft, place a wire into the pre-solidified resin. This prevents the need to drill a hole later.
love the idea of the plastic pallette for the cabs.
Thanks!
You are wonderful! Congratulations!
:)
i would like to see what you call a bad one and i would like to see one with clear instead of black in the back
Are you in the SE Michigan area? I noticed that the newspaper you were using to protect the surface had my hometown's name in one of the articles!
On the second go-round when it came out successfully, did you let the first layer dry more than the first time ?? Did I miss something, thanks for sharing with us....
Thanks i also went to dollartree and got some tissue wrap which is made from cellophane and cut it up to make cello glitter.
very nice. have you ever tried this process with very small fresh flowers? like violas or pansies?
Hi, i loooove your videos. They're so inspiring. Where do you get the molds though? Thanks
