John Boyega (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the rebellious Jake Pentecost, a once-promising Jaeger pilot whose legendary father gave his life to secure humanity’s victory against the monstrous “Kaiju.” Jake has since abandoned his training only to become caught up in a criminal underworld. But when an even more unstoppable threat is unleashed to tear through our cities and bring the world to its knees, he is given one last chance to live up to his father’s legacy by his estranged sister, Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi)-who is leading a brave new generation of pilots that have grown up in the shadow of war. As they seek justice for the fallen, their only hope is to unite together in a global uprising against the forces of extinction.
Jake is joined by gifted rival pilot Lambert (The Fate of the Furious’ Scott Eastwood) and 15-year-old Jaeger hacker Amara (newcomer Cailee Spaeny), as the heroes of the PPDC become the only family he has left. Rising up to become the most powerful defense force to ever walk the earth, they will set course for a spectacular all-new adventure on a towering scale.
Pacific Rim Uprising is directed by Steven S. DeKnight (Netflix’s Daredevil, STARZ’s Spartacus) and also stars Jing Tian, Burn Gorman, Adria Arjona and Charlie Day.

It felt like I was watching a Transformers movie. The Jaegars move and get tossed around like they weigh almost nothing. Del Toro made the punches in the first one feel heavy and colossal. Uprising had the largest Kaiju ever but didn't instill the same dread as the Kaijus in the first one.
If you read the lore of Pacific Rim, it's stated that newer jeager models are built to be faster and lighter weight. That's why the jeagers in Uprising can move really fast and do flips. It makes sense, they're already in the future and Uprising takes place 10 years later. Even Striker Eureka moved fast in the first movie because she was a newer model while the other jeagers moved slower because they were older models.

Kotm was closer to Pacific rim uprising in terms of not having that sense of weight anymore but it's more obvious in uprising than kotm. Plus kotm had advanced technology despite taking place FIVE years after g14. You can't say pacific rim uprising had too much advancement in 10 years when the monsterverse did the same thing in 5 years after 2014 and 5 years again after 2019

This just proves once again that you can have the best CGI and special effects in the world but if the movie has no soul and the atmosphere that made the original so great, it's gonna be garbage. Some people say the trailer is better than the movie. Honestly, even from trailer I can tell this is gonna be garbage. Such a wasted opportunity. The sequel could've been something great.

This only cements my fears. They've taken away what made the fights awesome in the original: the weight and scale. When Jeagers moved in the original, they didn't run, jump, and flip all over the place, they had to build up to that, because they were giant mechas. The weight behind their attacks made them feel way more satisfying to watch. The scaling also helped make the both the Jeagers and Kaiju seem huge and intimidating, making everything and everyone around them seem tiny and insignificant in comparison. And I know there's people out there who make the excuse that "these are more advanced Jeagers.", yeah, but they're still giant mechas, they shouldn't be doing a lot of the stuff seen here. By removing all of this they're making it look like a Bayformers movie. The Megazord in Power Rangers had more weight and somewhat better scaling.
AshXXMayftw there was a full movie of that, it’s time to evolve, if you really want, just edit the movie once it’s out on home media so you can watch the action scenes in slo mo, I’m glad they’ve made a Conscious decision to elevate the sequel, it shows that the film franchise is not just a one trick pony!

Mascatul I am cool with the explanation but the speed of their new Jeagers are just silly. I would have liked of the new Jeagers have the mobility that is only as fast or slightly faster than the Striker Eureka. Since that thing still feels heavy and has weight despite being nimble.

Hes got a point, you have full grown ass fully developed mature adults, with more logic and thinking power capable of doing the job yet they take in a bunch of tweens and teens to do it.

Giant robots need to move like big pissed off buildings with weapons. Instead they give us Mega Cyrax.
None of this makes sense, we can't have robots of that size and if we had the material and the capability of making such a beast, that means we have motors and actuators capable of moving hundreds of thousands of tons of material at high rates. It would only make sense that we lighten the machine, yet strengthen it, and increase its speed.
So moving at those speeds only make sense at this point due to "advancing technology". But to swing around a 500 ton arm, super quick, only to have it stop super quick.. its a bit weird.. looks odd.. doesn't add realism at all.

I went to the cinema yesterday to see this, and was pretty much going in with negative mood, from the comments I read on the youtube and heard from people. I never again watch and read comments and trailers anymore. I loved the movie, it exactly got what I loved. The action, stunts, plot twists and to be honest, I kinda like this sequel. Also, I didnt find any annoying character here as in some movies there are. The blue light and feel of the base where Jags were was cool! What is more, I thought that I would really be upset to see super kids saving the day, but to be honest, the Amara was not annoying kid, she was genuinely likeable character. I liked the characters even though they didnt have enough developement, maybe Im shallow. I really wish this would got a good box office and we would see trilogy. Please, dont get distracted by bad comments here. If you liked the first you will like this too. Also, about the fast moving Jaegers, they felt heavy and big. I loved that they were more agile. Not all Jaegers were doing the flips. At last, do you know why I loved Pacific Rim? I have never seen anyone say this but, the thought of humans joining together, and creating bigger robot, which have looks like us, which just reflect our creativity, logic, nature and physic understanding. I was brought down by comments as well, but I personally loved this movie, sure it had corny dialogue, and corny characters, but what are you expecting from a giant robot movie, I’m not there for story, I’m not there for characters, I’m here for giant robots kicking ass
JakubSlovensko The comments were right about it not going to be better than the first. Its was pretty bad. Worse then the first. First you get teeny cast, then bad acting, not great story. Seems like the movie is run by kids. Where are the adults!? First one felt professional, serious, mature, epic. Anyway the second movie was somewhat ok and only the action could save it, but still the movie is kind of a disappointment from what i expected.
I just feel like it was very unoriginal. Everything from the first movie was kinda dumbed down. The main kid protagonist was actually the highlight for me, her and her mini jaeger. Whish they had gotten more screen time and value with her in her own mech, instead of just throwing her into a characterless "big" jaeger and giver her own actual mech to someone else. Can't say I was bored, but I might be if I watch it again. It just feels like the first one, and then my question arises: "why would I ever watch this one again, when the first one is clearly better and has greater rewatch value anyways?".
Ah well, glad that someone got joy out of it and didn't just set their mood from reading comments and watching trailers beforehand.

I've seen the movie 3 times now, and i got to say, despite the mixed reviews and the youtube comments, i really liked the movie. The movie was such a blast watching it as it had great action, visual effects, acting, character chemistry, jaeger and kaijus are kick ass, engaging plot and overall a fun action packed blockbuster that is better than all those awful tranformers sequels. I mean it's not a perfect movie, and TBH the 1st movie did had a better visual style but this movie still worked in its own way and is serviceable for kaiju and mecha fans. This movie is Bascially a reimagining of tokusatsu, mecha, kaiju and anime of the 1960s, 70s, and 80s with a modern spin on it. So yeah I've seen the movie and i really enjoyed it i give it a 7/10.
I'll be honest, this may be of the most underrated sequels ever, as it has so many hate on it for being a transformers movie and all these negative comments are just coming from people so blinded by hate, dillusion, and lies to insist people not to see it when really it's just a movie and they have no reason to even see it if they didn't like it to begin with. Even going as far to say people like this movie because they aren't true fans of the original, which is B.S.! It's ok to like or dislike something, but it's not ok to get so angry or be blinded by hate, and aggression to a movie that wasn't made the way you wanted it to be made; there is such a thing as "review what you got, not what you wanted". So yeah, people can still like this movie snd fuck all the hate around it.This movie is a love letter, like the 1st movie, to those who like kaiju, tokusatsu and anime genres and should go enjoy it for themselves, rather than being influenced by all the hate coming from people who aren't grateful for anything.

A few concerns: 1) it's missing the grit and darker tones of the first movie. Part of the horror in the first movie was that there were so few jaegers left because humanity had abandoned them. Each one lost was a *massive* blow and gut renching. 2) Why are they all kids? That shoots up so many red flags. 3) The kaiju *cannot* feel like creatures. They have to feel like *monsters* or else a major part of the movie fails.
I'm waiting for more info for figuring out if I'm going to see this, but I'm definitely worried :(
jdub87 you took the first one way too seriously. When the two jagers died in the fight for Japan it really wasn't that big of a deal they had barely any scream time or any character development pretty much knew it was gonna come down to the only two important ones. No one was really depressed even the main character kinda just shrugged off his brother dying as he was in the rift but okay.

I think that in the 1st movie Del Toro made the Jeagers' movement very real. It was delayed, slow, never failing to remind viewers that these..things we're watching are mechs that weigh hundreds of tons. In the 2 trailers released until now, I think this movie has got rid of that vibe, unfortunately. The speed with which the robots move are too smooth, too fast, reminding me of the Transformers. Not that I will stop becoming a fan of the series, however I wont be expecting too much.

Man I hope it isn't going to suck but it probably will. Guillermo del Toro made the first one so epic because he realy cared about making this movie and bringing a mecha style movie to the west. This one is from another director and you can clearly see that. The combat and mechs look lighter and faster wich in my opinion is a bad thing. The slow, heavy and mechanical way the mechs moved in the first one added alot to style and tone off the movie. The colours are also just off. This movie looks like it will almost all be in daylight with just bland collours. The previous movie was way darker with small neon lights in between it and heavy rainfall making the mechs all wet and reflect the small lights. None off the amazing collours from the previous movie are present in this one. It looks more like a transformers movie then the next Pacific Rim. Man I hope im all wrong but it doesn't look good.

joris de boris it makes sense that the jaegars would evolve. Striker Eureka was much faster and built to be more agile, and just so happened to be the most successful jaeger we know of.

Its their movement. In the first movie, everything was big and slow, with steady camera movements, making it more believable. In this one they're jumping all over the place and destroying everything.

Look...it wasnt as great as the first one, but if your were wanting more Jaeger action with weapons and monsters rippingg them apart, then the movie serves you justice. Story could've been better, but I'll take it! It was good having some of the original cast members to lead the new team. In the end, im just damn happy they finally MADE another Pacific Rim, and the 3rd is going to be the best one, Mark my words! I love this movie and its franchis thus far! Go watch it!
