If i go to a cold place, im gonna need to go shopping. I have 2 thin sweaters, 2 skinny jeans and a cardigan... rest are tshirts and shorts... But I so wanna go to a wintery place. I've literally never seen snow
Hi Nadine, i was wondering if you would like to pick Bulgaria as your next travel destination, my family lives there and i have personally been there. Exploring the culture of Bulgaria, going on a hike in the mountains during the spring is just amazing, especially during the winter you can go skiing. I hope you visit Bulgaria one day
I love this! I studied abroad in England and left for Europe in August and THEN backpacked through the Scotland, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Iceland in December through January. I was completely unprepared!! The only useful things I brought were Doc Martins, a down Eddie Bauer jacket, and a rain coat. Thick socks were everything! And thank God dad sent good thermals! Accessories like gloves and scarves are also so easy to pick up there and on the move.
This video is so great Nadine! I'm making my way to Colorado at the end of this month for skiing & other adventures and now I feel way more prepared! Thank you!!!!
Thank you. It’ll be my first time to travel to New Zealand from the Philippines. It’s spring there now but anything below 24 degrees celcius is winter to me already
I know this video is older, but I am just now watching; and I have to say how awesome your suitcase is. It's cute, it's unique, and it has obviously been USED for some good traveling! Thanks for the tips.
@@charlottemarkaj9466 lol skip a few 4th grade science lessons? Not only is snow a super good reflector of sunlight, but you're supposed to wear sunscreen any time the sun is up.
Hey thanks I am travelling to Northern Pakistan and didn't know they had snow there until yesterday, now I have to repack. Your video is really helpful.
I don't think it's so much her voice as the way she talks to a camera. When I was in journalism school, we literally had to take a class to learn how to talk on air haha. You have to take lots of care to speak clearly and enunciate and put emphasis on certain words. Seems like Nadine does that in her videos a lot.
I'm going to Germany for three months (working travel) and I'm quite glad that you got this video out today :) there's extra waterproof parkas that can be folded into a thick sausage bag (I know, weird comparaison) that I have found in Japan and it's super pratical to just put it into your case, doesn't take a lot of place and you can layer up on a sweater. Oh and always take your parkas larger than your actual size, important to be able to layer up underneath and not look like a squeezed balloon. (and feel more comfy in it)
Wool keeps you warm even when it is damp. Extra socks are good for swapping to keep boots and feet drier too. I have slept outside in -40F/-40C wind chill. No insects!
I did a little tour of Western Europe in December and January a few years back, in the break between semesters while I was studying abroad in Spain. It was soooo great. Got to see Christmas markets in Barcelona and a few different German cities--stayed with family friends in Germany, too, and got to see how they celebrate Christmas--and hopped over to the UK for the transition between years. Went to Hogmanay in Edinburgh and got to see my favorite band ever perform live for the first time. During the Christmas time, it was a little hectic and crazy, but soon after things were very chill and relaxed, short lines and very little wait. The suckiest part was definitely wheeled luggage in Paris's slushy snow! I would advise also (depending on your destination) leaving off bringing so many hats/scarves. Bring one each that you love and you can buy a couple at your destination to keep you warmer and also will remind you of your winter adventures! I was studying in Sevilla, which is generally much warmer and so I hadn't packed many winter things. When I got to my first stop in Barcelona, I bought a beautifully intricately knitted burgundy scarf that now reminds me of Barcelona every time I wear it!
Have u tried Uniqlo's heattech line?! I love it. I wear it to the snow and when i went to ireland last november and its leggings and baselayers kept me so comfortable
I've been watching your videos because I'll be backpacking in Europe this month. You've been so helpful! I live in California and have no idea what harsh winter weather feels like so it's been difficult figuring out what to pack!
Hey Nadine, I'm glad you talked about practical footwear, but I just want to mention that it's a good idea to look for boots that look like they have good traction on the bottom so you don't slip as easily in snowy areas.
Always happy to watch and hear of your experiences. : - ) so many years now, time fly's when you really live in what time we are grateful to have.. not just in how to travel, but how you travel and what you may experience. Your audience can see the world through your eyes. time well spent.. thanx
I've just spent 2 weeks in and around New York City and compared to the New Zealand summer I left, it has been freezing. My thermals have been a life saver though and my warm, waterproof snowboard jacket has been essential. However, I did not own nor did I buy any waterproof or insulated boots so my trainers that I wore everyday, although we're comfortable for the miles of walking we did, when they got wet from the rain it was hellish. Would definitely invest in some boots near identical to yours because they were the most common type I saw people wearing and I was always jealous of their warm and cozy toes when I saw them. If it wasn't wet though, double layering my socks was just fine. It's been an eye opening trip, in terms of travelling without parents for the first time, new cultures and learning what I can cope with and how my partner and I can support each other in difficult and new situations. This video was spot on! ❄❄❄❄
this video was really useful, thank you! I'm camping in Iceland for nearly two weeks this summer and struggling a little with what I need, especially as I'm a bad over packer and have to fit all my winter gear (incl tent and a chair) in a kit bag for the trip!
Good video and compression bags are my number one thing I pack in ... saves so much space. Cold places are just as fun to go to, if you pack right. Thanks Nadine!
Oh my goodness, Nadine, this came at the perfect time! I am going to be leaving for short trip to Alaska in a few weeks. We will be snowmobiling, hiking, etc. and this was the perfect list, especially since I'm only bring a carryon.

Can you please please do a video on the smaller details when traveling? Like how you figure out if there is public transportation between the places you want to go. That's probably my biggest concern. That an when are you supposed to pay for certain things on longer trip like bus tickets, hostels, day trips, etc. THANK YOU

hi Nadine! This might be an odd question but I'd like to know your tips (if you have any) on eating alone during a trip. I've taken 3 trips alone and I tell you, I can do anything and I feel very confident but what freaks me out the most is EATING.
