RIP Gerard Smith. Fell in love with Dear Science & wore my disc out. Today I discovered Nine Types of Light, but also learned of the tragic news. It is haunting to watch this beautiful work of art and to hear these tremendous lyrics. Thank you, and may you enjoy eternal sunshine and love and may those closest to you find peace.

I'm shattered to hear about Gerard Smith. My mom died a year ago today from lung disease and hearing about him is really hitting hard. My deepest sentiments go out to his family members, band mates and friends

Seeing G.smith in this video is beautiful, he looked so happy and even though I am sad that he is gone, I can take solace in that, He created something amazing and touching and he most likely died knowing this and he left us Happy. He will continually live through his music and his art.

Imagine knowing you're going to die. Imagine having to say goodbye to a friend.
    From wikipedia:
On April 12, 2011, the album Nine Types of Light was released along with a one-hour film under the same name containing music videos for all the songs on the album as well as interviews with various New Yorkers. The film was directed by various directors under the supervision of Tunde Adebimpe.
It was announced in March 2011, that the band's bassist, Gerard Smith, was diagnosed with lung cancer. On April 20, 2011, the band announced the death of Gerard Smith on their homepage: "We are very sad to announce the death of our beloved friend and bandmate, Gerard Smith, following a courageous fight against lung cancer. Gerard passed away the morning of April 20th, 2011. We will miss him terribly."
RIP Gerard. You're gone but not forgotten.

I originally was kind of dissappointed in the album, because I felt like it didn't live up to how incredible Dear Science was. The music with this movie however, has made me realize that it's one of the best expresssions of art I've ever experienced. Kind of beyond words good.

This is such an amazing socio-political commentary. Such an amazing insight into the mind of the new millenium. Not only is the album full of amazing music, but it is a snapshot of rock and roll and America's transition into the digital age. In a historical light this video is truly invaluable. Thank you TV On The Radio for being you.

I never had a chance to meet Gerard, (or any of the artists of TVotR for that matter). Regardless, by virtue of your art, I am experiencing an unexplainable connection to Gerard's soul and the existing life force of the remaining band members. Don't ever stop what you are doing, guys. Love and much respect.

Amazing band. Their music is so unique and the more I listen the more I want to listen. The second half videos are also so cool. The one with Joy Bryant and after that with the night scene then the girl re-building her man on a grassy hill. Classic. Also, these guys could have another career as straight comedians. They are hilarious!

My god... they just don't know how to disappoint. Providing aural ecstasy bound up in just enough lyrical LSD to make the candytrip worth it and leave you in that floating headspace for days. What's funny... is I know I'll get stuck listening to two or three songs on repeat for months, only to discover the rest of the album a half a year later, and start the whole glorious circle all over again....
