  • A lot of people were very surprised when I told them I was relearning the E flat major nocturne for my graduation concert rather than learning a new one which isn't as overplayed. But I really had no choice as this is my favorite one. I used to think that this piece was just overplayed and not worth learning but then one night I was listening to the Rachmaninoff recordings and this piece popped up. Usually I would have skipped it but I was really tired and a bit curious and it completely changed my view on this piece. Víkingur Ólafsson also made an Icelandic radio show a few years back called ''Víkingur's Piano Legends'' (rough translation) where he talks about his 10 favorite pianists. Fortunately one show was still available when I found it and that episode was covering Rachmaninoff. Up until that point I actually disliked the old school of piano playing but hearing Rachmaninoff's recordings when I was just about to fall asleep really changed my views.
This was actually the first classical piece I learned. It took me a long time but there is a recoding on my channel where I'm playing it in a piano store after 5 months of learning it, so I thought it would be a really fun idea to play my first classical piece on my graduation concert.
Anyway that's enough ranting. If you enjoyed please subscribe and keep following my progress. It has now been around 5 and a half years since I started playing and I don't intend on stopping!

Absolutely masterful playing. The maturity of this performance shines through and you have developed immensely as a musician and especially as an artist! The interpretation sings, and is incredibly balanced and stable, the melody breathes freely and yet is wonderfully poised. You manage to make so many differences in color and you shape the melody with so much depth. I love the callback to when you first started ! So proud of you and congratulations! : D

By knowing the pieces well enough and not relying on muscle memory. This was the first time i wasnt really nervous on stage. My heart was still going crazy but mostly excited:)

my good friend Jakob, how many hours do you practice daily. for you to be this good at piano (thinking about your other posts here on this channel such as your Chopin etudes) you have to practice like AT LEAST 4 hours a day.

I do around 3-4 minimum rn but used to do 6+. But its really only about how you practice not how much :)
