On a serious note. Are you guys aware of Shane Hamman? He squatted 410kgs faster than the Cuban guy in the video did 250. He was also a weightlifter and I'm sure he holds the heaviest squat for an olympic level weightlifting competitor. Not sure why Zack didn't mention him.
Jerking requires fine motor skills developed over years of practice and development of technique and efficiency. Some teens get it done 2-3 times a day
Nah Zack, my 400 kg squat looks like that. I was squatting 180 kgs, but some guy commented to put my toest out 15 degrees on my instapost and the next day I was squatting 400 kgs like that because it increased my thigh muscle efficiency.
"Oly" Weightlifters are absolutely amazing. 20 Years of powerlifting 5 years of PEDs and my bar speed doesn't even compare to these guys that are half my size. I need to rethink my life.
Probably just how powerlifters train vs weightlifters. Weightlifters are always told to squat with fast as possible ascend, whereas powerlifters put force production over power production.
Its genetics for explosivity and muscle fiber distribution. Some people lift very fast near their maxes, some people lift slow anything above 70%. Doesnt really mean anything
Yeh when I was a yungun I was like a lot of young people dabbling weightlifting just when this song came out way better than Eminem to weightlift too and it’s older I reckon a lot of people did pump a bit to it now that I see this really suited it cool memories
Zack "Do you want me to just give Clarence this channel so he can have a third one? Is that what you want? Is that what we're gonna do? Whatever, I'm done" Telander
Honestly the tip about the quads in your squat has helped me so much. I’ve got a sticking point right above parallel and thinking about my quads has probably increased my squat twenty pounds.
Clarence now officially has a 3rd channel :D just kidding, great video Zack! I don't do olympic weightlifting, mostly squats, deadlifts and bench plus some other lifts and accessories, but when I squat, I always do it high bar oly style. I also have long femurs and it took me more than half a year to achieve the mobility for full depth, but it was worth it. The squat has become my favorite lift and I love watching other people squat on the internet. So it goes without saying that this video is pure gold for me.
Honestly, I would not be mad if you made reaction videos, or livestreams. I would like if you made a video, or livestream reacting to the 2021 olympics.
Whenever I see Clarence take inhale deep before he squats I'm amazed at the bars movement. That bar would be crushing me. No way air is getting into my lungs.
It’s good to see your squats! Although I’m not as tall as you I do have long femurs relative to my body makes squatting so much harder. Nice to know we can still move solid weight with enough hard work 👍
It is completely counterintuitive, but check out Daniel Bell's squat. He is the Raw Powerlifting ATWR holder in sleeves and wraps for the SHW, which is remarkable, but what is really weird is his style, very upright, similar to a weightlifting "style" squat. He and Rob Philippus have very unusual styles, particularly for a heavier powerlifting squat.
@@zacktelander yes, but Dan Bell looks almost strange, particularly in the hole. He is so big, yet his knees go way out over the toes. Chad Wesley Smith was upright, but his style had a little more forward lean than Bell, in my opinion. Chad is/was huge and probably has longer femurs. His knees/joints look humungous. I always thought he would be less injury prone than others, because he looked like a freaking tank.
Sad to not see Tian's 270x6 which is probably my favourite set of squats in weightlifting. Some more female squats that are different styles and bodyweights - Chen Wei Ling, compare her powerlifting squats and weightlifting squats. Perhaps the best squatter of all time. Gaelle Ketchanke, a lanky African weightlifter who squats over 200 and is my favourite example of how longer limbed people should squat. Hyejong Park, teenage super recently squatted 220kgx4 easily.
Nice shout out to the IronMind videos. I saw their vids of the Bulgarian training sessions back in the early 2000's before RUclips existed. Mind blowing stuff. Good to see their content is still relevant and appreciated.
Well, I only learned of Clarence from your *Tries Sumo Once* video, so... you guys are kind of mutually promoting each other, which is awesome! I really like this video, I'm really trying to improve my squat right now and these are some great points. Thank you!
I’ve squatted over 800lbs as a powerlifter (low bar, leaning forward, etc…) and Olympic squatting 500 kicks my ass every time. Completely different movement.
Fantastic vid, Zack. As a mere mortal, I used to watch the Iron Mind Chakarov squat vid over and over in utter disbelief. All these years later, I’m still a mere mortal and now I do the same with Clarence’s squat vids.
Hey Zack, just wanted to say I really enjoy your videos and your commentary, super entertaining and informative for a casual gym-goer with a weightlifting dream like me. Good job!!!
Powerlifters practice speedy deep squats too. It's exactly that bounce at the bottom (hamstring activation) that is highly desirable. Granted, for competition we don't need to move beyond the 'parallel', but it is something my coach encourages to do in my training anyway. The deeper you can go with good form, the better.
Klokov's best squat, according to himself (there's no video of it that I know) is 325kg. If that's true, he would actually be the 2nd best squatter in this group.
Once in a while after a few months of consuming content full of ugly squats I come here to pay homage to a good back squat. It's so satisfying and heart warming to watch.😍😍😍💪🏾💪🏾🤗🤗
Mark Henry might be the only other guy to compete in weightlifting and squat more than Mart Seim. He competed in powerlifting and hit somewhere in the mid-900s iirc. It was a weightlifting style squat, but I'm not sure if he was wearing kneewraps or not.
Who said we're friends Zack?
