  • Liu Huanhua, aka Giga Chad, has become arguably China's best weightlifter on the men's team. After years of total dominance, China's squad has started missing out on Gold medals.
In Thailand, at their most important competition of the entire Olympic quad, 'only' two of the six took home gold medals, two more managed medals, and two fell outside of the medals.
Watch as Liu Huanhua journeys from the third ranked -89kg weightlifter in China to their World no.1 as an -102kg weightlifter.

    It's all political.
Ask yourself. What Olympic sport has arbitrarily cut the team member count and changed weight classes 4 times in 4 years? Just weightlifting.
And count how many countries are disproportionately affected by those changes? Just 1, China.
Meanwhile, they're talking about adding 3v3 basketball as a new event.
    What a joke.

Out of a possible 45 Weightlifting Medalists in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 20 were subsequently banned after re-testing a competition sample. That's 44%.. of medalists!
Weightlifting is absolutely rife with drug use, it's basically systemic.
The USSR dominated weightlifting for decades, and then they fell apart and got caught cheating, the void was filled by China.
China isn't good at weightlifting, they're good at drugs, just the same as the USSR before them.
Weightlifting isn't a test of an individuals strength, speed, skill, or stamina, it's a test of their ability to utilise a drug program and not get caught.
There may be phenoms who are incredibly gifted athletes, but if they're a weightlifter, they are on drugs as well. Because those phenoms cannot outcompete other insanely gifted athletes who are on drugs.. and everyone is on drugs when it comes to weightlifting.
When 50% of the field gets caught on drugs, the other 50% isn't clean, they just didn't get caught.

The Chinese never seem to use the red 25 kg plates in practice lifts. There’s an old reddit post of their hall showing shiny red bumpers amongst the nicely worn other colors. Why don’t they use the red plates in practice? Is it superstition?

Most likely yes,I got told off by a Chinese student for writing their name in red(they were genuinely offended and I had no idea)
