@@HandyDoctor89 Worse case I'll be drilling a vent hole in the cap. My old Harley only has a tube with a little filter on it. Time to install the lift I bought that's sitting next to the barn. 😖
Good tips. Another tip, go watch the video on drilling out a hole to access the PCV port, so you can flush it with carb cleaner every 15k. Also, add a oil catch can. Other than that the car drivers pretty good.
I cleaned the PCV orifice as best I could and bought the pressure relief oil cap as well. I plan on doing a more thorough cleaning once the weather warms up a bit.
Hi, thanks for the video, I have the 2.4 ECO motor in my 2015 terrain and the link you have from Amazon says that it will not fit my engine. What is my next choice? Thanks
@@HandyDoctor89 The new GM vented gas cap just came to my door, fits perfectly. I went to the GMC dealership parts department and said there was no such thing. 😂😂 thanks again Handy Doctor
So my buddy has a 2012 equinox that he had Ford $25 oil changes its whole life. Started using 4 quarts in a week. Put this cap on, added seafoam to the oil. Slowed the ussage after the second oil change to 1 qt in 2000 miles. Now 4 oil changes later, always adding seafoam, 1/2 quart in 3k miles. And it is no longer oily around the filler cap.
This is the type of comment I’ve been looking for! My 2011 terrain goes through 3-4 qt a week. Had a couple mechanics look and they had no answer. Going to try this and see if it helps!
2017 Equinox, ~83k miles, zero oil usage until a puddle noticed this morning. Rear main seal. Shop gime charges are skyrocketing now, so estimate is $2400. I'll replace the cap next week when we get it back.
Just clean the pcv orifice and install an oil catch can then use a valve cleaner to clean the valves and since these engines have piston ring issues then i recommend to get some gumout multi system tune up take out all spark plugs then pour about half a bottle in each cylinder then crank the engine by hand to work the liquid into the rings to unstick them after that let the fluid sit in there for about 11 hours then get a turkey baster and suck then fluid out after that install everything then start her up and then no more oil burning
I had serious oil consumption, after putting on a pcv valve in the cap, it stopped every oil change I do sea foam treatment direct to cylinders and in oil. Much better performance no fear of losing the main seal.
@@robertvanderbaan3722 putting pcv on the cap was what I was thinking if I had pcv issue after this...then I got bored with this car and sold it. Now I'm driving a Volvo XC90, 😂.
Did you put a hose on the pcv and connect to something or just the pcv on cap? How much sea foam in oil and did you change oil after or leave it in their the whole time?
An oil catch can works differently than this oil cap “ pressure relief “. High pressure inside the valve cover from the crappy GM PCV system ( try a GM 1.4 litre turbo ) causes “ oil blowby “ and the increased pressure inside 5he top end of the engine pushes oil out through the valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket and apparently even the rear main seal??? I can’t believe GM hasn’t had a class action lawsuit brought against them for all these problems ( lemon law??? ) Direct Injection is an engine killer.
That small hose on the left side of the top cover when I pulled that out so I can do my oil change there was like a milky oil coming out of it, the oil on the dip stick looks fine and the coolant lvl is normal I have noticed a lose in power like it's bogged downed when trying to accelerate so does that mean my pcv is clogged or maybe valve gasket? I also noticed I have a leak on the valve cover black oil not milky any tips? P.s I'm a noob just teaching myself to work on my car can't afford 200$ a hour mechanic
BTW, come to www.terrainforum.net/ and start and a post, if you like. I don't own that forum but I am an active user there. You can post pictures and it would be a lot easier for others to see what's going on and help you.@@thomaswalton9089
Well, nothing is guaranteed and that's why. Funny you mentioned the catch can. It's a popular set up and I fell into it. But no, that thing doesn't work as intended, not as good as this oil cap at least. I in fact have another video on that topic. Here is the video, if you like to view. Not everyone agrees with me of course and it's totally fine. ruclips.net/video/TYFOGeDMfLc/видео.html
This engines design does not allow for theinstallation of a catch-can on the Dirty Side of the PVC system. You can install a Catch-can on the clean side, but the problem starts with the orifice in the Intake manifold.
@@HandyDoctor89 That is generally the case I guess. I will be putting new pistons and rings in one of these 2.4's in the near future. Hopefully it is worth the trouble and doesn't burn oil afterward.

@@HandyDoctor89 hi again, I got the oil relief cap and put it on. Can you please explain to me how it works. Where does the pressure go. @@patpelletier4523 You are fine, Pat. I don't think you can see the hole where the air is released. It's somewhere higher, between the white and black plastics. It should work. FYI for those of us in the cold… the FC219 will also freeze shut. So this is an engine that needs a warm-up before you go anywhere. Thaw out the cap.
The oil is getting dirty and oxidizing quickly due to Gas Direct Injection. I've been recommending this cap for 5 years.
Maybe your high pressure fuel pump is dumping raw fuel into the oil.
