OUR 16 MONTHS OLD DAUGHTER LOVES YOUR RAGGLE TAGLE GYPSY! HOPE WE'LL MEET ONE DAY! WE'RE IN ITALY, BY THE WAY, BUT WE'LL TRAVEL AGAIN AS BEFORE SHE WAS BORN!
Ahh, welcome to the world of Celtic music. Folk, modern some weird but powerful combination of both, you'll find a lot of things you didn't know you needed here. A couple things to check out. Derek Ryan, The High Kings, Makem and Clancy (that one's a rabbit hole)
There were three auld gypsies came to our hall door. They came brave and boldly-o. And one sang high and the other sang low And the other sang a raggle taggle gypsy-o. It was upstairs, downstairs the lady went, Put on her suit of leather-o, And it was the cry all around her door; “She’s away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o” It was late that night when the lord came in, Enquiring for his lady-o, And the servant girl’s reply to the lord was; “She’s away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o” “Then saddle for me my milk-white steed Me big horse is not speedy-o And I will ride and I’ll seek me bride, She’s away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o” He rode east and he rode west He rode north and south also, And when he rode to the wide open field It was there that he spied his lady-o. “Arra, why did you leave your house and your land, Why did you leave your money-o? Why did you leave your only wedded lord All for the raggle taggle gypsy-o?” “Yerra what do I care for me house and me land? What do I care for money-o? What do I care for me only wedded lord? I’m away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o” “It was there last night you’d a goose feather bed, Blankets drawn so comely-o. But tonight you lie in a wide open field In the arms of the raggle taggle gypsy-o” “Yerra, what do I care for me goose feather bed? Yerra, what do I care for blankets-o? What do I care for me only wedded lord? I’m away with the raggle taggle gypsy-o” “Oh, for you rode east when I rode west, You rode high and I rode low. I’d rather have a kiss of the yellow gypsy’s lips Than all the cash and money-o”
J'adore vraiment ce clip que j'ai d'ailleurs partagé sur mon fb. En plus du talent ils ont de l'humour, j'aime beaucoup le gag des instruments "empruntés".
I was living on the Route de Mende, I used to enjoy your songs coming from Trinque Fougasse restaurant. Above all, I love "Black is the color". You guys do it best. I don't know the lady's name but she is great. Now I live in NYC and I miss your songs.
My favorite version of this song has been Derek Ryans version for a long time. Its been quite a while since I've heard one that rivals it but...man her accent is adorable. It has just the right amount of pep too. I think I've found my second favorite version.
One of my favorite actors, the late Robert Clary, was actually a Gypsy. He's best known for playing the Frenchman, Le'bo on the 60s TV show 'Hogans Heroes.' While he was born in France, he was from a Jewish Romani group and not technically French.
@@brucecollins4729 he's simply saying that you're aware of that athough you're probably not Scotch since Collins is considered an English name . . 🙄 although originally Irish. Odd though that you used the scotch word for song. ."sang". Though it was probably just a spelling
I remember this since I had friends that at st Connor's Patrick primary school in my native land up north side of Ireland county Tyrone northern Ireland we are all human we bleed the same blood so don't believe in the government because they're hypocrites to get more money but I really appreciate you all for help people that have to live of the government because if it wasn't for you taxpayers we wouldn't have a live or a living of a dog😢❤ so I thank you so much for your help re publican of Ireland
You guys had a version of “she moved through the fair” that I was absolutely in love with. Is there any way I can still find it?? It was absolutely incredible, I know there’s a live version on here but would love to hear the studio version again.
Yes, you are right, those are chords but played on an irish bouzouki. :) He plays both, depending on the songs. Traditionally, the bouzouki is more often used as a melodic instrument, rather than an harmonic one, but in this audio recording Pascal is the only guitar/bouzouki/mandolin player, so we had to make choices to preserve the harmonic rendition. ;)
@@seamrogmusic3654 Yes one usually expects a bouzouki player at a greek restaurant. The only time I have seen an irish bouzouki live was in a performance by the band Celtic Woman (go figger) also the Uilleann bagpipes. I'm in NCarolina where the odds of seeing either is somewhat rare.
@@seamrogmusic3654 I think the Irish see themselves as living off the coast of Europe, its debatable if we see ourselves as true Europeans ,but we do like Europe and the eu, "closer to Boston than Berlin " is a phrase often used in Ireland
In our humble opinion, if you think planxty's version is the only one that truly deserve to be heard, maybe you shouldn't have clicked on ours. It would have spared us both an unpleasant moment. Have a good day anyway ! :)
@@seamrogmusic3654seems slightly bizarre to refer to it as a "cover of a Planxty song", but hey ho. Lovely version, I can't get enough. Post more videos!
