  • www.askwoodman.com The sheet bend knot is the perfect knot for tying two pieces of rope together. Sometimes you have two short pieces of rope, and even if they are difference diameters, you can tie them together quickly and easily and have one long rope.

    Excellent videos on knots, many thanks. I just wanted to add the Sheetbend is so called because it was used by sailors on the old windjammers to tie a rope to the corner of a sail or sheet. The loop was formed in a rolled up bit of the sail corner.

    Thanks. This is just a general presentation. The real work of learning these knots is done by people who force their brains to make a picture of what they want their hands to do. It takes concentration and focus to learn these. People get upset with me because they watch a video and expect to be proficient without really putting in the time to make that neural connection. It takes active effort to learn them. Not passive observation. Allan

    For the sheet bend I always use the same method as you showed for the bowline.
    I find it easier.
