  • Part 2 of a 3-part verse-by-verse study of Alma 8-12, which recounts the ministry of Alma and Amulek in the city of Ammonihah. Part 2 focuses on Alma 9-11 and examines willful ignorance, harsh rhetoric and the anger of God, sinning against greater light, "lawyercraft," and the Resurrection and Final Judgment. I loved the analogue of the clay with a harden heart. Know the damages and yet there is still hope for a brighter day. Bless you.

Thank you for that comment. My biggest hope is that people will be inspired to dive into the scriptures directly. The Spirit can teach you so much more than I can! Bless you in your studies!

Those people were so much like our American House of Representatives when they get someone under their thumb. They do the questioning exactly as The Book of Mormon describes here. If you told them to repent because of the hardness of their hearts, you’d get locked up I think. I love your lessons.

Thank you for this lesson. I have been struggling with deep depression and through the way you pointed out the condition of the heart I was blessed to see my heart has been hardening. I am going to renew my focus on prayer and scripture study....guard my heart. Thank you again for the lesson! May you continue to receive divine guidance in your teaching.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm sorry you're dealing with depression--we've had all kinds of mental health struggles in my family and I know how devastating and debilitating they can be. I hope the clouds will clear for you so you can see the Light again! Bless you for fighting the good fight, even when it seems like there is no "hope shining brightly before us."

I understand how you feel. It's so easy to be swayed today with a the wickedness flourishing in our leadership and schools that teach our children things they are too young to understand or realize it is evil.

Love to begin my day with you bringing the scriptures alive for me.Your stories are teaching the application of the gospel in this telestial world and that's what so many of us need especially right now. I've attended many of your Institute classes live and they were fantastic, but this new video format is awesome. Your pics, text, and even music are excellent. I can't believe you can sit still for that long : )
Keep up the divinely inspired work. I am getting "fattened" on the scriptures by feasting like never before!!!!!

A harsh first discussion. Lord knew he had to be direct in order to warn them. They hardened their hearts. The spirit of the devil. The Lord will be merciful unto all who call on his name. 9:17 Alma wanted them to remember. We need to remember as well. Have faith in his name. Remember our baptismal promises. Are our works an indication of our faith. President Nelson wants us to repent and lock our arms with our neighbors. What must I do today?

I'm taking notes for personal study, and am looking for the reference for where Cain asks "Who is God...who is my brother". I can only find "Am I my brothers keeper". Anyone know?

At 14:50 you read form Helaman 12:3 "fear of the Lord " I am having a hard time seeing someone who I believe is a loving father, saying these words. I give my heart to him because I choose this because of love, not because of fear of afflictions, death, terror, famine, pestilences." Am I taking this out of context, if so please help me understand?

    • @Unshaken

Great comment! As I tried to share in that section, we sometimes force the Lord to use stronger language to wake us up, even when He prefers to use a "still small voice." D&C 43:24-25 puts it powerfully--that the Lord will exhaust every option to get us to choose the kind of life that will bring us home to Him. It's all motivated out of love. It sounds like your response to His call is exactly the kind He prefers--motivated by love on our part as well. You may want to watch the videos from King Benjamin's address, especially the one entitled "The Goodness of God"--I think it'll speak your language!

your lessons are definitely thorough... could you please reduce your repetitive rephrasing of every statement? One or two is sufficient.... 4 or 5 gets really over the top and quite frankly excessive and frustratingly verbose.
