  • Part 1 of a 5-part verse-by-verse study of Alma 23-29, which recounts the history of the Anti-Nephi-Lehies. Part 1 covers Alma 23 (and looks back at a few additional lessons from Alma 18-22) and examines inadequacies in sharing the gospel, learning to learn from anyone, freedom to believe and disbelieve, righteous traditions, and true commitment. Join Jared Halverson for your weekly Come Follow Me study of the Book of Mormon!

Brother Jared...I love your pure spirit in your teaching...your heart is deeply involved with what you teach. I have come to truly believe that The scriptures are alive. They will teach us, as you explained over and over the Words of life, in different ways each time...a lesson to be internalized by each reading. I have found that Temple work has this same quality...Truly the words and light of Eternal Life...the Covenant Path. Thank You, I feel so blessed to be learning from you. David....You brother in the gospel😇

I can relate to the part about spiritual metabolism. When I was an investigator of the church, I would look around in awe at how happy and spiritual everyone appeared. I didn't see all the hard work that each of those spiritual giants had devoted to prayer, fasting, and study. At the time, I felt so inadequate that I almost stopped going. Thank God that our ward was so warm and loving, that I stayed since 2010!

You are an awesome teacher - while listening and preparing for my catchup lesson with you, I suddenly felt I’ve got to share you, told about you to my Bishop and my best friends but today half way through thought I’ve got to actually give them this lesson! So I’m not very technical but emailed this lesson to them, whilst doing that my carer (I had cerebral palsy at birth) that is so awesome, non member pings me from messenger ‘what religion are you, I’m just telling my friends about you’. So within minutes your wonderful, need to teach the gospel has past on to many of my friends. Regarding my carer just said all questions welcome. I was actually wanting to go full blast missionary, but just told her our name, our proper name and where our chapel is. It is so true, when you love something so much, you just want to share.

I know how feel to be the only one to accept the true gospel. I am Italian decent and I was only one to joying the Church in my family of 9 brothers and sisters. I have a motto about baptism : Now .. or later.. If they do not want to be baptize now , I will do later.

Brother Halverson, I truly love your lessons. I appreciate your teaching style and would pay little to no attention to missyiayia comments. Your "self chatter" helps to humanize you and makes the lessons very interesting. Keep up the great spiritual lessons. Thank you.

I enjoy these lessons so much. Because you go verse by verse and dive in I have started to see that each verse really does have something to teach me. It's not just the true stories; it is the way they were written and the words used that bring insight and personal revelation. Now, when I sit down to read my scriptures I am excited for all the things I am going to learn. Thank you for your youtube channel.

I was blessed to be able to work for a large semi conductor company for almost 20 years. I only answered one question during the interviewing process as they had seen that I had served a mission. I had been diagnosed with a nerve disease at the age of 18, I refused to accept that I was disabled. No 18 year old wants to hear that. Anywho a few years before I went out on disability a boss had actually told me that I needed to lower my expectations of my coworkers. I was working 12-14 hours a day walking 6 miles in carbon fiber AFO (my muscles are too week to pick up my feet) anywho the AFO;s don't bend and they have no cushion. When I was going thru the process of disability, the DR asked me why I waited so long to get a disability tag for the car? I had been in active for 10 years, I had just finished a 4 day work week and when I got to my car I was in so much pain that I couldn't press the gas peddle to get home. I had to pull over a few times to message my foot. Anywho I made the commitment to get back into the church the RIGHT way and started reading the Book of Mormon with the understanding of praying to God and seeking his help to do it. When I got to Alma 17 2-3 I had understood it that these boys had fasted too much and prayed too much in the 14 years. I needed that and continued to finish the Book. At the end of reading the Book of Mormon I had diarea of the mouth, I could not wait to speak to the Bishop and get some things off of my chest. I started reading the Book of Mormon right away and the next time thru Alma I couldn't believe that I had misunderstood about Ammons fasting and prayer. However the Lord knew I needed to see it different at that time.
