I watch a lot of RUclips videos, and every time I run across one of your videos I could never understand why you shoot with Sony cameras. In my mind, you were born to be a Canon shooter.
Iseed to shoot with Canon Lawrence but at the time of the Canon5D MKII and MKIII, the files would break down very easily when editing and I'd see artifacts appear in the shadow areas especially when colour grading ... this didn't happen with the Sony files I got to try out, which is why I moved over. I've shot Nikon, Canon and Sony and all are great BUT all have things we wish they had or were better. Things have moved on since I made the change across all of the brands but to be honest, for what I do now my A7RIV is perfect even though Sony offered me a new Sony A7RV(which I declined). Photography in general is changing and this really excites me.
Clever video... I bought the R6 the moment it was released, upgrading from the Canon 5D Mkiii. Everyone wanted the R5, but stocks were low and to me, the extra mega-pixels didn't make sense for my shooting of a few weddings a year, but mostly corporate photography, headshots and low light events.... 6 months later, every wedding photographer was buying an R6 because of it's low light performance and all around usefulness, I am about to get my MKII of the R6 as a second body and I can't wait. I have shot with the R5 and the R3, both incredible cameras! But the R6 is special.... I showed the church I was shooting for and the staff photographers just how much easier it was to use and the shots.... and well, that was 15+ more R6's sold.... I only wish I got a gift from Canon for being such an ambassador, but I haven't created content like you... but now I am learning so I can... I want to teach quality photography to people.
I'm glad to read this as I went around quite a but between the R6 mk II and the R5. I just couldn't justify the cost of the R5. I need to use funds next year to buy a new computer so that was in my thinking as well.
One thing you said which I think gets lost sometimes is that this camera is such a joy to use that it really does make you want to get out and use it more often. I wish they’d have sent you the 100mm macro, because that lens is the one I’m having the best time with. I have the 100mm, 85 1.2 DS, 50 1.2 and the 15-35. Wait until you get out shooting high speed sync at 1.2 with those primes, glorious results!
No it doesn't. Sony is at least highly customizable. I have the most often used functions mapped to the buttons. Canon sucks in that respect. I don't need ISO button/dial, I need a min shutter speed button/dial for AUTO ISO. I need a button that would toggle through shutter types. I need a button/dial that would change LCD brightness. I need a button/dial that would toggle through eye-AF subjects, and other two buttons for AF type/mode and area selector. Those are common functions that Canon makes you to dive into menu to change.
@@ElementaryWatson-123 you are wrong on nearly every point you made. I am a wildlife photographer that no longer does events or anything but wildlife. I switched from Nikon to Canon when the R5 came out because of the tech. For me, Sony just did not have the deep rich color I want in the raw files and and as such, was not for me. The R5 blew my mind. Forward 3 years later and I went ahead and took a chance and bought the Z9.... it is the only purchase regret I have as far as photography goes. The Canon R5 is simply an amazing beast that impresses me every time I go out...... and I use all old Canon EF glass that adapts to the new R mount perfectly. I can get the longer lenses at half the price of what they were originally and they work flawlessly. For me as a wildlife photographer..... #TeamCanon and I am not looking back. Eagerly awaiting the Canon R1 that I suspect will impress me even more. I still shoot a DSLR now and again just to make me think. All just so much fun!!! 🤗💖
It’s actually pretty hard to buy a bad camera. The first digital camera I bought was a Nikon in 2005. It was not cheap. The cameras now have come so far. It’s basically finding one that is best for the style of shooting you do and has a good selection of lenses.
Good points on the R5. For many of us, switching brands is a hard road since you lose so much selling and re-buying glass. I love Canon color. It is the best. I know I could get used to holding down the button to change the aperture on the Canon but I am used to the two dial system of Nikon and Sony. Some things are hard to change. For anyone starting with mirrorless photography, Canon is a good option. Hopefully, they will embrace third-party lenses in the future. For others who want a wider selection of lenses and don't mind the ergonomics of a smaller body, Sony fits that bill as well. I don't think people weigh the pros and cons of the systems or rent/borrow a camera before buying into a system. Many will watch RUclips videos of their favorite influencer and pick that system. I watch Tony and Chelsea and would be broke if I changed system each time they went with a new system. 🤣
Canon customization is dismal, it's either Canon way or no way. Sony is excellent in this regard. Nikon is also limited but still better than Canon. I don't know where those beliefs about Canon colors are coming from. Though in the past their DSLR cameras delivered nice colors, it can't be said about their new R cameras. The greens are terrible, especially in landscapes. The AWB is the second worst after Sony. Skin colors in CFL light are horrible (even worse than Sony), unless you are shooting in a studio with controlled lighting you are screwed. Certain deep blues end up pinkish, no way to rescue them.
I think the whole 3rd party argument is nonsense. Do you know how much A+ glass is available from Canon that can be adapted to mirrorless. Less expensive and works great. EF135 f2. EF85 f1.8. EF100 f2. EF100 f2.8 macro. You can get great deals on used Canon lenses with a $125.00 adapter.
Canon now prohibiting 3rd party support makes most newcomers and also many existing Canon users turn away, as Canon is not an option for those customer segments any more. Most want to reap mirrorless lens benefits straight away, rather than falling back to adapting "old daddy cr@p" stuff from the DSLR dinosaur age, when those huge and heavy lens monsters were fashionable. Mirrorless desings have become so much more smaller, lighter, and optically superior, and with better native mirrorless AF support. Also, having a mixture of old and new lenses: that is a lens-versus-adapter juggling hell. Either have all lenses as DSLR lenses (=adapter conveniently 'glued' to the camera) or all lenses new (=no adapter at all). But there's no painless transition path between these scenarios. Unless you would have to each old DSLR lens its own adapter attached. Ouch. Now that Canon will lose plenty (existing and potential) customers, but hardly winning anyone from other camps, they will gradually lose market share and eventually turn into an old men's brand. That's the Pentax fate eventually (what really broke Pentax' neck was that they had lost their 3rd party lens support).
Thanks Glyn. I got a good chuckle out of this video. I've been on the fence about these two cameras. Both great. But I think I've made my decision. You're a hoot.
Great video Glyn...suspect you could get an Oscar for the closing scenes. Brilliant. As to the R5, I do not want to miss it anymore. You described the pros spot on. Thank you and keep 'em vids coming. Always enjoy your energy and humour.
Cute😎 I switched from Canon to Sony after 30 years with Canon for two reasons: FF Mirrorless & Megapixels. I started with the A7r and every version of the A7r until the A1. I stuck with my Canon lenses a bit longer with a metabones adapter as I had a big investment in lenses including 800mm 600mm and 200-400 with TC plus just about every red-stripped lens they offer. My last Canon was the 1Dx, which I kept and used both Sony and Canon. Then I added the A9 and had better results (birds in flight) with the A9 and Canon lenses than the 1Dx and same. At that point, I began selling off my Canon L glass and replacing it with Sony GM glass. My gain was 7 years of mirrorless shooting while Canon and Nikon tried to figure it out. Now, I don't see any reason to switch from one to the other. They are all great and can be selectively compared to make one brand look better than another, but anyone of them in the right hands will produce top images and videos. Today Sony doesn't offer tethering or focus stacking. For me, focus staking is seldom and tethering is never, but Sony should add both. All differences between the big 3 are incremental and I would recommend to anyone to stick with the brand they already have. When I am asked what camera I use, I defer and ask, "what do you like about my images?" If a photographer can't get good shots with Nikon, then switching to Sony won't help. I would tell those looking to improve their photos to take a class from Glyn Dewis and stick with the camera system they have. Fun video😎🤙
Thanks so much for that Ron. Makes total sense. Agree with pretty much all you say…only thing for me is the need / want for some functionality that Sony seem to refuse to budge on adding in. Using the canon more recently does fit well so I guess overall it’s what suits each person best. Totally agree that changing systems won’t make you produce better maybe … it’s just the process to do so may be more ‘you’ … if that makes sense.
So to tether you need to have another subscription to capture one??? Not the answer. Sony need to release access to their SDK. TetherTools also state it’s Sony not releasing access. Just saying use captureone isn’t the answer; Sony getting over themselves is.
Having been an EOS user since the 650 I waited and waited for the R5 as a full frame mirrorless camera to replace my EOS 1DX2,s which were causing me unimagineable pain due to their weight. The added bonus with the R5 in addition to its lightness is the eye tracking, IBIS , Photo stacking and being able to focus on a point then move the camera to recompose, even on moving objects, try doing that with a 1DX. I cannot see me replacing the R5 for many years as it does everything I need and more. My only complaint is that Canon must permit 3rd party lenses, they are being very un-professional and spiteful.
My first interchangeable lens camera was a Sony a6300, six months later due to the lack of affordable e mount lenses at the time I bought a Canon 800D. The feeling I had with the Canon in my hand, ease of use etc was just like you describe. I just enjoyed using it so much more. I have wondered about upgrading from my 90D to a full frame camera, and I did reluctantly think perhaps I should look at Sony. I think you’ve made my decision for me. And I hadn’t realised that Sony did not do focus stacking in camera. So thank you.
Welcome back to the fold Glyn. My R5 has by far been my favourite Canon and your enthusiastic video was spot on mate. My only wish item would be for the camera to track the photographers eye for focus😉
My go-to walkaround camera changed from a 5Diii with a much-loved and underrated EF 28-80mm f2.8-4 L to an R5 with an RF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM. Such is progress.
After owning the R5 for two years, I’ve gone back the other way. Loved the camera, ergonomics, colours and lenses but I simply couldn’t afford the glass I wanted to pair with the R5. Purchased the Tamron f2.8 trinity for my new A7iV for the price of the RF 24-70 f2.8. Seeing a few canon rf owners coming over or Sony for similar reasons
interesting you say that Rob because I know of quite a few moving from Sony to Canon ... Nick Page being one in particular. It is what it is ... no right or wrong ... just what's best for the individual, their style and how they sue the camera. Cheers for tuning in 👍🏻
Agreed Glyn. Think too many people are easily influenced by social media and influencers and will change their entire set up based on one positive or negative review. I honestly think that what Canon have done with their mirrorless system in the third of the time it took Sony is miraculous, and the integration from dslr to mirrorless after the original R & RP bodies has been brilliant, and to be honest I miss the simplicity of using my R5 vs my new A7iv, because with the canon, you pick up, tweak a couple of settings and just start shooting vs. the endless menus in the Sony, even after a couple of weeks of being back with Sony I’m fine tuning my day to day settings. For me personally, I would have never left Canon if they brought out some decent third party glass but I’m not a pro, or wealthy, just a serious enthusiast. The change all started when I was looking to purchase the Rf 24-70. £2400 in the Uk and that started me looking at alternatives. I could get the Tamron 17-28, 28-75 & 70-180 combined for a very similar price to the one rf lens, and have ended up going that way. Canon will entice the pro’s back to their system but for the 95% of the rest of the photography community, Sony offers the best bang for buck… and my original comment stated that if you read some of the canon Rf forums, some casual Canon shooters are doing the same thing.
@@roboHare73 Canon did their mirrorless system in 1/3 time of Sony, because they had Sony to do R&D for them. All that Canon/ Nikon had left to do was to make few proprietary tweaks to ready technology.
@@roboHare73 This is why I got the EF 24-70 F2.8 II. It works perfectly on my R5 with adapter, and is as close to the RF version as any Third Party would be (i.e. something like 98%) at least for photos. And is regularly available used for $1,300. I love all these people selling off great EF glass cheap because they for some reason don't like and adapter - gives me good deals.
Given that you're clearly already invested in the Sony system I'd be interested to see you try the A1 to see how it compares with the R5. Do you think the 1/400 sync speed of the Sony could be of use?
I get what you're saying in this video, and I've shot with Sony, Canon, Panasonic and Olympus, all great digital cameras. And I relate to your comments about Sony Cameras, but I have reached different conclusions. First, about he menus, you are spot on. Sony has really struggled to make a menu system that makes sense UNTIL the A7 IV and A7R V. I think they really upped their game with these new bodies. But with respect to Canon, Canon has made one fatal flaw - not allowing third party lenses! Canon will not get many photographers' business for that reason. It's a shame, but that is the reality of the camera biz. And if you try out the new A7 IV or A7R V, I think you will find that Sony have addressed many of your criticisms.
My first camera actually was a Sony then I went to Nikon and now I'm with Canon they're all good cameras you really can't go wrong with any of them it's just a matter of preference sometimes. 👍
I used Sony cameras for 10 years. I used Canon EOS R for one month, that was enough, after that it went back to B&H. I used Nikon Z6, then Z6ii for two years, what a delightful camera, thinking of saying goodbye to Sony.
I love my R5 so much that I always have it by my side. When I'm driving, it's sitting on the passenger seat. When I go to restaurants, I take it with me. It's such a user-friendly camera that does so much. When a waiter comes over, I hand it over to him to take a group pic. He looks puzzled and I tell him to just tap the screen. He snaps the shot and is shocked how easy it was. Canon knows what photographers need to make a great experience. But let's not downplay the Canon stats. It's very easy to say that you can have stats or you can have shooting experience. There is nothing lacking in the R5. No other camera matches the R5 at its price point. But the key point is if a camera gets you out there shooting more often, then it's the perfect camera for you. So if that Sony or Nikon or Canon gets you to shoot more often, then the camera is a winner.
I switched from having a Nikon D810 and Canon 1DXll, along with 11 expensive Nikon lenses and 4 very expensive Canon lenses, right onto Sony, just 3 years ago and man... I actually think that Sony cameras are terrible, especially their build quality and even more so ergonomics... But... When I tried all the Zeiss and GM glass... Oh man... That just won me over... If Zeiss ever decides to make glass for Z/RF mounth, I'm switching right back to either Canon or Nikon.
I bought an R5.. It arrived on Weds, did a few test shots on Thursday.. Photographed a football Tournament Sat & Sunday.. My sales for the event doubled!.. Paid for the Camera in a day!.. It is an excellent Camera!
I love my R Series cameras. R5 as my main and the R as my backup. Shot with the R for a couple of years before the R5 came out. Now when I go back to my 5DMIV it feels clunky to me. I have never shot with Sony so I can't compare.
Man, first Nick Page, now you. I still love my a7iii. It's only 9 months old to me so I'll be keeping it for awhile. Not saying Canon isn't something I wouldn't buy but I just got my Sony and I love it.
Please @Canon, give this man a camera 🙏🙏🙏. I shoot with the R5 and watches all his editing videos for learning … You are a brilliant source of knowledge @Glyn.
You are no doubt getting tons of trolling from this video just as I did from mine… but I can only agree with you. I have zero regrets about selling my Sony gear off to make away for my new Canon kit..
I have tried every major system and owned it. I always end up just going back to sony. It's what I love to shoot. That being said canon is doing great things. I still prefer sony
Haha, love the ending! I've never had high end kit but have to say the menus on my old Canon 800D were simpler than those on my current Olympus EM5 Mk3!
😂😂 absolutely loved this Glyn. 1. For a great review, 2. For how you put this together to present and 3. The humour at the end! 👌 made me giggle. Can’t wait to see the C in the next vid 🤔
Sounds like a Canon commercial. I started with Nikon and then switched to Canon and then switched to Sony when the A7R3 came out. And i am still happy with my four year old camera. But i still always keep my eye on Canon and Nikon, and would switch to one of them again if i found a way to justify it. But right now i am not happy with Canon and Nikons new glass being so big and heavy. Like there 50 f1.2 lenses. Compared to Sony's way smaller and lighter 50 f1.2. And i love that Sony has 3rd party options for almost every focal range with great image quality and way lower prices. So right now its hard to justify switching back.
I own and use both an A7RIVA kit and an EOS R6 kit. I've shot quite a bit with the R5 on a few occasions the last couple of years. The R6 alternates better for me to fire off 20MP where priorities differ. I found this video a bit dramatic on praising the R5 without going into the comparisons against the frustrations, so I look forward to the follow up video.
Excellent and entertaining review of the R5 and RF lenses. I've owned Canon, Nikon and Sony. I currently own an R5 with an array of EF L lenses. I'm very pleased with my results. Frankly, switching systems these days seems hard to justify as the capability in almost all pro level camera brands is superb. The cost of selling out of a system and replacing lenses in another system is really expensive these days. I'm fairly amused by the current anti Canon outrage around Canon enforcing their intellectual property and restricting third parties from making lenses for their new RF mount. I believe this is a good move on Canon's part which should improve Canon's ability to negotiate a reasonable license fee for the right to use their technology and restrict poor performing Companies from stealing their IP. There are superb EF lenses that work great with an RF adapter. Also, used EF lenses are superb values that perform better on the RF bodies than they did on most native EF cameras. Thanks again for a fun review.
Ton thanks for commenting and for the information about the use of the RF and EF lenses. Yeah looking at comments, the one thing that comes up the most against the Canon is the RF lenses and no 3rd party len support. Will be interesting to see how this develops.
I changed from Canon to Sony some years ago. Going back to Canon is not tempting for me. Escpecially since I would loos great third party lenses like my Tamron 35-150 f2.
cant wait for your next video saying how you switching back to Sony a7r5!! I've just sold my R5 and officially done with Canon after 15 years. Sony A7r5 / A1 all the way with GM lens.
As I once said before your channel has without doubt been an enjoyment to watch. Your creativity to make your videos enjoyable so we aren’t just watching someone explaining techniques and certain skills in a boring way, definitely makes you stand out. I myself switched from Sony(A7R3) to Canon(R5&R6) and never looked back. I don’t regret it at all.
@@tedmanasa907 I wasn’t heavily invested. Most of my lenses were 3rd party(sigma and Tamron). Those I got 2nd hand anyway. I had the Sony Zeiss 55 1.8 and Sony GM 24-70(most expensive lens I owned). I picked up a Canon R5 just to test out and it was love at first sight. In all honesty, I probably would have said the same thing if I waited for the Sony A7iv. But the canon just won me over. So now I have both the R5/R6 and use both quite often. Don’t get me wrong, it does suck knowing Canon has pulled the plug on 3rd party lenses. But I have 2 EF lenses from the older Canon system that are just as sharp as my RF lenses just needed a EF to RF adapter. I don’t see myself upgrading bodies any time soon with the release of the R6ii and rumor of a R5ii. I’m still learning to use these to their full potential.
Charged it at the start of the week and didn’t have to charge it again. DIdn’t take thousands of photographs but did use it throughout every day of the week.
@@glyndewis awesome. I’m thinking about switching to the r5 from Sony as well, and battery life and wobbles are my only gripes with the camera. Sony just doesn’t inspire me to shoot more lol. Its been fantastic though so I’m torn haha
I bought into sony starting with my a7ii. I then bought a 70-200mm lens, and a bunch of other gear. I'm considering an upgrade soon, but I just don't think its logical to switch my whole ecosystem to get a camera that is comparable to some high end sony cameras.
I have been hearing from more and more people here on RUclips that they’re finally realizing that Canon has always been number one I tried out a Sony camera a couple of years ago. Had it for about 10 days. I had purchased it when it first come out and it became very clear very quickly to me that Sony was garbage anything to do with wildlife photography or landscape or moving subjects it has a horrible focussing system and I quickly return to Camera and picked up the canon 5D Mark IV and I have been extremely happy with Canon. They do amazing work. I see more and more people returning to Canon.
This is utter nonsense, I am Sony user since 2019 (switched from Nikon) and have never looked back and I am a Wildlife Photographer and Photosafari Guide doing trips to Africa. Even professional Canon Shooters have tested my Sony Gear last year and they were extremely impressed by the Sony: ruclips.net/video/dsLAaRi5jcQ/видео.html
So you judge the system based on 1st generation models..? Good for you.. I switched from Nikon to Canon to 1st generation Sony for different set of personal preferences. Never looked back. Ergonomics are the only thing that I might hold against Sony. Not enough to give first thought of going back.

Very funny video. I am sure Sony cameras are also great. I use R5 and R7. I told my friends many times that the R5 is Canon's best camera so far. That is my opinion. I owned quite a few Canon bodies in the past 20 years. The R5 is really good. That said, the modern cameras from Sony, Nikon, Canon, etc. are very good. You won't go wrong with any of these brands.
Yeah agreed … all cameras these days are good and can produce great quality. As always for me it’s about ‘which is fir for purpose’ and has the functionality and feel that I want / need. Sadly (even though I love my Sony kit) they still refuse to update models with basic functions such as Focus Bracketing, tethering into Lightroom etc
Yeah I totally agree…all the brands are making great cameras that produce great files. It all boils down to personal taste, how it feels, how intuitive the menu, functionality etc…

Thanks for the video it is really amazing.if I am starting with a new camera, would you advise me to get the canon R5 or Sony A7R5 for portraits. Especially when it comes to skin tone
It’s going to be down to personal taste so wouldn’t want to advise. All I can say is that the colour from the Canon is spot on … I haven’t shot with the A7RV but have with the A7RIV and yeah that’s good too. If you can try both and compare that would be best option.
I did the reverse when the pandemic hit, I tried sony having been a canon shooter for 15 years, sony made me fall in love with mirrorless but I came back to canon's RF system b/c of all the quirks of sony's menu system. the way they handle min shutter speed with auto ISO is crazy and alot of the menu is very unintuitive sony to me. also the flash connector feels cheap and breakable , canon just feels more solid. loving canon mirrorless but I do miss the sony 200-600 , that lens was amazing.
@@jayfromaz I usually don’t use 8k, mostly 4K (the 8k oversampled one) for that I can see a great improvement compared to before, couldn’t get to overheat even when I recorded over 1hr

I'm a Nikon Z shooter and feel Nikon and Canon (shot canon years ago) are superior about usability and form factor. They are fun to use. It's subjectively of course, but I couldn't at all fall in love with Sony when I tried using the a7riii for a while. Lovely auto focus for my portrait shooting, but that was it and no fun at all. The Nikons are perfect for me and love using them, but could easily use canon too.
Long time Sony shooter and agree that Sony feels a bit like tech toy rather than a real camera. I love my gripped D850 and Canon 5DSR, as well ArR3, 4, etc.
Great video I am Sony shooter for certain types of photography and at times I do wonder about Canon for photography… I love my Fuji’s and Lunixes but Canon is missing. So probably will buy a Canon in 2023
I worked with Sony on a promo video for the A1. Great camera BUT at £6500 still no tethering into Lightroom, no focus bracketing, no animal eye auto focus in video, rolling shutter issues etc ….
The R5 is heaps better than the Sony equivalent. Even though it's 2 years older, the R5 is better than the A7RV in almost every way, short of resolution which really makes very little difference. The R5 has better video, similar AF, better build and ergonomics, much faster FPS, lower noise and a much, much faster readout sensor (BSI is overrated). Canon really improved things with firmware, fixing the overheating issue completely. It's like a whole new camera since it came out.
I just switched from an A7riv to an R5 only regret is lens prices so far but EF glass is offsetting that some. Camera just feels more natural in my hands I also feel like I can use it in any weather and not worry. I only miss a few select things about the Sony the extra 15mp is nice when switching to super 35 if you ever switch and the tracking in every mode and not just one like the r5. I think Canon will hopefully solve that with firmware since processor is the same as r3 and the r3 does this. Good luck in your choice. Keep up the great work.
Hey Jake not sure if you’re aware but you can make tracking work while also having a center point focus and you can press a button to activate it on and off . I use my Sony the exact same way . Former canon shooter here but I’m getting an r6ii because I miss canon haha
Had R5 had back button focus problem ( freezing) got r6 same problem… had a case of freeze when signing 🤦🏻 Back to Sony… lens cheaper and many third party lens available But loved the canon too
Generally superior production here, particularly the voice. Now how about we not pan through the opening series of portfolio images so quickly? Not one of them can be digested, it's as though you are ashamed of them, and in fact they each have big impact, if they were left on screen long enough to actually see. I find them a little on the HDR side, but that is fine, because they have a great look that is consistent and unique enough to matter.
Exactly...you need a plug in because Sony won't allow access to the SDK (Software Development Kit) so that tethering can be direct like it is with Canon, Nikon etc...

Cant wait for the RF 135mm F1.8
Based on this comment and your others on this video, you clearly are not familiar with Canon cameras, and have actually made it very apparent that you don't know how to edit Raw files, complaining about Canon colors in their mirrorless cameras? Truly laughable 🤣🤣
@@tsprenk you are wrong on nearly every point you made. Truly laughable 🤣🤣
I totally agree with You. You can't choose wrong these days, specially when it comes to picture quality.
"good" and "bad" say nothing about the cameras only about your standards.
Yup, every Canon camera I've used has has two dials for aperture/shutter.
@@tubularificationed good point. Sony widespread adoption is very much due to availability of a large number of the third party e-mount lenses.
Thanks Glyn. I got a good chuckle out of this video. I've been on the fence about these two cameras. Both great. But I think I've made my decision. You're a hoot.
😃
Great video Glyn...suspect you could get an Oscar for the closing scenes. Brilliant. As to the R5, I do not want to miss it anymore. You described the pros spot on. Thank you and keep 'em vids coming. Always enjoy your energy and humour.
Thank you so much mate 😉
Fun video😎🤙
Capture One has tethering from all major camera brands )
May be Lightroom don't want to tether with Sony?
The recently announced A7RV has focus bracketing ...
Exactly what I said in the video. So have to buy a new body to get this. No updating previous models … even the flagship A1 at £6500.
Eagerly waiting for R5 M2
👍🏻
As an R5 user, looking forward to your next video ;)
😃👍🏻👍🏻
3rd-party lenses, and full-sized HDMI … R5 mkii rumored to have the latter, at least
Now that would be great … fingers crossed that gets added
Canon tried that before. It did not sell.
My go-to walkaround camera changed from a 5Diii with a much-loved and underrated EF 28-80mm f2.8-4 L to an R5 with an RF 24-105mm f4 L IS USM. Such is progress.
👍
I have an R5 and R3... never been happier!
then give me one of these lol
@@roboHare73 That RF 24-70 is £1755.00 on einfinity UK. Stop being ripped off and paying full price for kit.
I chuckled a lot with the ending way to go Glyn!
😃 Glad you liked it mate
love this vlog !!

Given that you're clearly already invested in the Sony system I'd be interested to see you try the A1 to see how it compares with the R5. Do you think the 1/400 sync speed of the Sony could be of use?
Great ending - good to see you getting Krish on his toes
Had to be done 😃
Can't wait for the next video revealing your decision!!
😃
Yeah agreed 100%
I used Sony cameras for 10 years. I used Canon EOS R for one month, that was enough, after that it went back to B&H. I used Nikon Z6, then Z6ii for two years, what a delightful camera, thinking of saying goodbye to Sony.
@@ElementaryWatson-123 I'm not sure anyone is out hoisting the banner for the R. The R5 is a different story.
@@timothylinn R5 it's marginally different from that perspective.
I bought the R5 as soon as it came out. Love It!
👍🏻
WOW! That’s superb to hear. Way to go Robert!
😲
I love my R Series cameras. R5 as my main and the R as my backup. Shot with the R for a couple of years before the R5 came out. Now when I go back to my 5DMIV it feels clunky to me. I have never shot with Sony so I can't compare.
Man, first Nick Page, now you. I still love my a7iii. It's only 9 months old to me so I'll be keeping it for awhile. Not saying Canon isn't something I wouldn't buy but I just got my Sony and I love it.

Good to hear; it is afterall just about personal taste / preference. Cameras across the brands are all VERY good these days.
The best move you could make, such a shame sony didn't look after you Glyn, I'm sure canon will do a better job!

Great review, not to mention very entertaining!
Oh man, I feel like I just watched a TV show and got the huge cliffhanger ending. Now I have to wait until the next season to learn what happens.
🤣
I changed from Canon to Sony some years ago. Going back to Canon is not tempting for me. Escpecially since I would loos great third party lenses like my Tamron 35-150 f2.
I'm buying the r5 next year for sure. Great review!
Ending is Nice..😁

It’s a given Glyn. You know you want it… They are awesome bits of kit, and RF glass second to none…
Love it. I own both Sony and Canon and I 100% enjoy the Canon more. It’s more of an extension of me than a tool.
I really love my R5… and I’m excited that we might win you over! 🤪 Have a great weekend, Glyn!

So good of you ro say that Steven ... thank you.
Grea to hear too that you're happy you made the swtich and that its suiting how you work.
@Steven How invested were you in FE glass when you made the switch? What were some of the reasons you switched?
Great video. How was the battery life on the r5?
Charged it at the start of the week and didn’t have to charge it again. DIdn’t take thousands of photographs but did use it throughout every day of the week.

I bought into sony starting with my a7ii. I then bought a 70-200mm lens, and a bunch of other gear. I'm considering an upgrade soon, but I just don't think its logical to switch my whole ecosystem to get a camera that is comparable to some high end sony cameras.
lol, the ending was very entertaining

@@vladoh2011 if you are happy with your Sony camera, that is great I’m not charging anybody or anything. I had to make a decision at the time when I had the money to buy my camera gear. Sony does not make bulletproof gear. That is fine with me. Different people, different needs.

Great review as always and I love the ending....but will you do it Glyn? 😂
Great video!!!! I think you should try the r3
Thanks Debbie
I did the reverse when the pandemic hit, I tried sony having been a canon shooter for 15 years, sony made me fall in love with mirrorless but I came back to canon's RF system b/c of all the quirks of sony's menu system. the way they handle min shutter speed with auto ISO is crazy and alot of the menu is very unintuitive sony to me. also the flash connector feels cheap and breakable , canon just feels more solid. loving canon mirrorless but I do miss the sony 200-600 , that lens was amazing.
I have used the R5 a few times. It's a great camera, but I'll be sticking with my Sony a1 and the 200-600 zoom
I have an R5. Tremendous camera. However, I'm still very troubled with the overheating problem..
trying updating firmware, was very good after the upgrade, for me overheating is thing of the past
@@Yushmantha thanks I'll do that today. How long can you run it in 8K with the firmware upgraded? Is it just longer or does it eliminate the problem.
@@jayfromaz I usually don’t use 8k, mostly 4K (the 8k oversampled one) for that I can see a great improvement compared to before, couldn’t get to overheat even when I recorded over 1hr
@@Yushmantha The problem really wasn't with 4K depending which version of it you wanted to use. I wanted to shoot more 8K. But I'll load the update and see. I really like that camera.
Its still overheating, its just not turning off.
Love your conclusion 😂 it sure is a keeper
😃
😉
I hope to see your review of the R6 mark2.
👍🏻
I’ve got all canon. It’s bloody amazing isn’t it’ll. yeah its true. Canons mirrorless lines up with lenses if for the rich. But if you can afford it. Nothing else beats it
Yeah I was so impressed with its not just the quality but the ease of using it. As you say though … not cheap by any means
👍👍
I think the R5 will be in your bag soon 👍👍
Hmmmm 🤔
You know you want it. In the immortal words of Nike, "Just Do It".
Great video I am Sony shooter for certain types of photography and at times I do wonder about Canon for photography… I love my Fuji’s and Lunixes but Canon is missing. So probably will buy a Canon in 2023
Nice one
LOL you had the same reaction my sister had with her sony then I got the R5 hahah, now every time I turn around my damm camera is magically missing.
You may want to try the A7V or A1 (electronic shutter with 1/200s flash!) first before changing the system.
I worked with Sony on a promo video for the A1. Great camera BUT at £6500 still no tethering into Lightroom, no focus bracketing, no animal eye auto focus in video, rolling shutter issues etc ….
@@glyndewis cost is high but rolling shutter issue on A1’s stacked sensor? The new firmware update has addressed few of the items you listed.
Great video Glyn & love my R5 probably a bit too much 😂
I love the ending there Glyn, made me laugh. after that one I can imagine canon setting up a box to send out to you.
The R5 is destined to be a legend.
👍
I was so impressed
Had R5 had back button focus problem ( freezing) got r6 same problem… had a case of freeze when signing 🤦🏻
Back to Sony… lens cheaper and many third party lens available
But loved the canon too
Hmmm I have been shooting wildlife with the R5 using back button focus for almost 2 years. No issues or problems. The camera has been stellar.
Nice video 👌 Is the AF better than Sony‘s A 7 IV or is it just ergonomics?
It's amazing
Generally superior production here, particularly the voice. Now how about we not pan through the opening series of portfolio images so quickly? Not one of them can be digested, it's as though you are ashamed of them, and in fact they each have big impact, if they were left on screen long enough to actually see. I find them a little on the HDR side, but that is fine, because they have a great look that is consistent and unique enough to matter.
Hi Glyn, why do you say that Sony will not tether to Lightroom? I thought there was a plug in.
Exactly...you need a plug in because Sony won't allow access to the SDK (Software Development Kit) so that tethering can be direct like it is with Canon, Nikon etc...
@@glyndewis OK thanks for this. I asked because I was thinking of buying a Sony A7IV.
