I ordered the primer bulb for the older mower. YEAH. N.O.S. (new old stock) The shipper says the plastic is yellow. I replied and said that is OK. It matches the mower.
Fine video, Bruce. The only reason I won't put a toggle switch on my mower is in case I decide to sell it... too often people want to sue for damages lol.
Great job Bruce! I’ll bet a lot of Tecumseh haters don’t get the importance of having a good bowl seal on these engines. As you said without an airtight seal fuel from the priming well won’t get pushed up the emulsion tube when you push the primer and it’ll never start cold reliably, pretty simple really. But I guess it’s easier to say all Tecumseh engines are hard to start and don’t run right instead of figuring out what’s wrong.
She is but you have to hang around for the entire fix which is a long time to hold a camera. (even on a tripod). Even on my metal dectecting in Mexico it gets to be long time in a short amount of time.
How's she goin'? I was thinking "this is a pretty easy one to get back on line." And then you found the primer not working right. Nice find on the bowl seal!!! Thanks for sharing and take care!!!
Off the rails again, naturally. Me, that is. In the late 1970's , I think, my parents had a Bolens self propelled rotary mower. The shining feature about that mower was that it could adjust all the four mower wheels at once with a grip handle that rotated and actuated a screw thread mechanism . The actuating handle was placed on the top front of the deck. I'm not going to describe that feature any further but I think it worked great , being simple and reliable. Ever witness that Bruce?
In the 70's My family use a rope start. Yes You wound the rope around a collar and pulled the rope till it came off then you tied the rope to the handlebars till needed later.
One of these days, you will be running a mower on that stand and it will vibrate off. Your first inclination will be to grab it and you will get hurt and probably lose some fingers. If you are going to run it on the stand, I would suggest that you install two eye hooks into the wood platform and strap the mower down before running it. There are a lot of amateurs that watch your videos and someday, someone or you, will get hurt doing this dangerous practice. I enjoy your videos very much and don't want you or a viewer to get hurt. You can see the mower moving several times on the stand in the video.
No kidding. there is a process. What is supposed to do What is it doing what is the least labour intensive process Next least intensive start Worth doing Test rinse cycle. (do again). In the phone business my first step was Check your battery check your ground. I was amazing how a ground issue would cause things you can't measure.
I know there are many Tecumseh detractors. But here we are some 13 years after the co. stopped making engines, and like the one you feature in this video, many of those durable flat-heads are still out there & working just fine. Plus, parts are fairly plentiful so that also tells us something. Yes, the carburetor/filter design was a weak point but I think competition was what did the co. in. With Honda & Briggs dominating & more homeowners opting for lawn services, the market simply didn't three walk-behind engine makers.
Yet another potential fault I haven’t heard of before. Thanks! How about running a wire inside the handle up to the operator for an on/off switch and paint it red so they can’t miss it? Just a thought.
I put 2 6hp tecumsehs on a homemade tow behind unit. Had both engines running fine. First test today one stopped. Would only run on shots of carb cleaner. I pulled the bowl nut jet. Piece of rubber in it. I hadn't add a shutoff valve and did that just before my test run. Obviously I screwed up my fuel line cuts.
I have three empty cans of carb clean Mick what does that mean? I think mick would say well Bruce you need more carb clean their mate lol! Nice video Bruce good repair!
Bruce great video very informative. What RPM tool do you use in this video, and do you have a part number. I would like to get one. Thank you for sharing and God bless

Hey Bruce, I quite often work on mowers where, on contact, the black box tachometer just climbs and climbs, even though the engine is obviously close to proper operating speed. Have you also experienced that? Not sure if it’s related to the type of spark plug or an issue with the ignition coil?
I have thought about that. As I have had similar issues. Things improved when I dropped the wire and clip. Also I think the resistor plugs are better for that.
good video Bruce well done you have replied to my video Bruce about my chainsaw but when i click on your comment i can not find anything and its not in the comment list ?
I made the mistake that i was the only person who worked on this mower. It could have had that bad bowl gasket when I clean the carb back 2 years ago. I just don't know.
A simple fix when you know what you're doing, most would not of known about the seal. It goes back to the saying "if you don't use it". Thanks Bruce
I ordered the primer bulb for the older mower. YEAH. N.O.S. (new old stock) The shipper says the plastic is yellow. I replied and said that is OK. It matches the mower.
That was a good lessen on the Purge Button and a worn bowl seal correlation. Very good example shown. Thanks for that!
Thanks Bill.
Always enjoy spending time with you in the shop. You are the carburetor guru!! Feeling good and doing great!
Good to hear. I am doing a few more saw videos now. I am not sure if they are going to make the big time or not.
Fine video, Bruce. The only reason I won't put a toggle switch on my mower is in case I decide to sell it... too often people want to sue for damages lol.
Right. I don't do many of these just because of that.
Great video Bruce! You always give me some great smiles. Hope to catch up on Saturday. Cheeers!
see you then (Friday morning I hope).
Nice repair Bud!! Thanks for permission to laugh because I think I almost pissed myself on that one!!☺
Thanks RK. Thanks to you my products are getting old and older. I am doing a chain saw from 1980. I know that is new for you. LOL

Ah, the "little" things. They all add up. Thanks Bruce!
They do.
Great fix Bruce - love those kind of repairs. I bet Mrs. P. would be a great director/camera person :-)

Glad you enjoyed it
A good job well done mate.. oh the carb bowl ring.. it's in good condition mate..
Now it is. LOL
Great mower remember you putting the on off switch on keep em rolling Bruce
Thanks

I having been working on these little engines since i was a kid and the bowl seal still tricks me. IF!!! they have a primer it has to seal.
Good stuff Sir! Thank you for the upload 👍🏻
Thanks for joinng in !!

I've got to go back thru the archives and see the one you did on this mower . I want my mower with an on off switch can't stand the brake set -up !
I did look.
Another fine job my Good Friend! Cheers Buddy! Sean~
I was in a wrestling match with this one. LOL Just another mower though.

I have done that. 2 years ago when i put the switch on I must have been i a hurry.
Nice vid Bruce 😎
It was fun actually. The less the machine is worth the more work it takes.
@@BrucesShop I know that feeling 😂
Lol yep a laugh. Thanks bud for the video.
That is good.
For the love of god if you insist on running that Mower on that Lyft put side rails on it. maybe you haven't thought of it. Good job on the repair.
The my first Safety Sally for this video
Hey there Bruce. Funny I just worked on a Tecumseh last Sunday, recoil and carb. Back to the stick eh? Oh well we are creatures of habit after all

Hi Bruce, nice and informative video. I learned something today. What tachometer are you using?
Well the come up a inductive tach for small engines. i don't now the make. just use google.

Makes me wonder if the connection between the ignition cable and the plug is arcing somewhat, even though the engine is running smoothly.
hello sir, where did you buy this adjustable table? Thanks
Princess auto in Canada Harbor Freight equivalent.
Hi Bruce How many RPM you set this mover Thaks
I think the max factory setting is 3600 ?? But I set them at about 3250 just because they are old.
@@BrucesShop THANKS your answer i had brand new BRIGG &stratton 675 EX series now RPM 3090 is toolow or adjust more Thanks
Hey Bruce great video. 👍👍. Have you heard about Darren/Mustie1 ? I’am a bit concirned on his health. 🤔
I have followed him for years. I have not heard anything.
I believe I watched the video where you installed the cut off toggle switch on this machine.
I went back i did not find it.
How do you get rid of old, bad gas from mowers like this? My recycle center wont take gas.
Long Story. the city will take it periodically.
Is your lift from Northern tool ?
No Princess Auto in Canada
Each rental gets a mower - so he's not using it himself with the switch, as promised? Hmmm
I know.
Bruce's Shop - see, I was paying attention. Also, I like the Joe Boxers 😱
What was issue #3? Bowl gasket was #2 then what?
Yes the person who used it turn the idle all the way up to max
I thought for a minute you were going restart the SKY

good video Bruce well done you have replied to my video Bruce about my chainsaw but when i click on your comment i can not find anything and its not in the comment list ?
It was a parts breakdown. Maybe i copied the wrong link. Sorry bud. I think that cover is normal. i just did a Husqvarna 36 (the same cover i think)
@@BrucesShop thanks Bruce i think i have solved it after close inspection there is 4 plastic pins that are broke off i think it's had a plate on
I have to run a switch almost like that also. I dont want to buy a cable for it
The only danger is someone working on the mower blade while the switch is on.
We've got fiddle faeries down in these parts too!
