My group whined about the concept of the Lvl 0 Funnel Adventure... but then we actually played it, and they fell in love with the concept. Everyone loved it... and it made them really care about their PCs that survived. Hahahaha.
There is a "lack" in MCC, I actually bought this first and then followed by buying DCC to get a better understanding of the rules system. I too Ive never read M/Alpha even though Ive been roleplaying 40+ years now. Thanks for the review and take care and heal well.
Yeah, MCC really seems to bank on the reader being a fan/veteran of Gamma World or Metamorphosis Alpha. It could use a setting book to really inform brand new players of just what is going on!
Love mutant crawl classics. Its old school.. The dice are wonky at times. and it is very very very easy to die. The old saying "stupid decisions lead to character creation, is true, but character death is not limited to that." I am not a millinnial, but I doubt it would appeal to the crowd. As a stand alone RPG, i don't disagree that a "how to DM" or advanced story telling is missing, but I do disagree on the neccessity of that section. Especially in a DCC/MCC situation. "The funnel" lets players and DM's a like work out how they want to play. I would also point out that most DM's don't start out as DM's but rather players. While I believe MCC, can be played in any universe, be that cyberpunk, post apoc, Matrix, alien invasion, gamma world, traveller. It lends itself best, to the pulp 50's sci-fi. That aspect that you question humans regenerate luck plays into the 50's monster movie trope. That may not be everyones cup of tea. In parting, I would agree with your rating 8.5+ as a supplement to DCC, and a 7 as a stand alone 9.5+ if you like campy 50's scifi movies. Its a good system, prepare for the fantastical. It leaves a lot of meat on the bone.
...I had only "heard" of Met. Alpha, and I started with D&D 1st edition. I jumped all over Gamma World 1st edition and this looks VERY similiar. Bugger! It was you that made me buy (all 5) of the D&D reincarnations, now I have to take a look at this too. ;)
@@Thegaminggang Wonderful to hear. My hard-copy of MCC arrived today. I do love the hard-copy w/art. PDFs will never do for me. I can't beleive I missed this one on release. Thanks again for the heads up. Now to talk my gang into a session or three... :)
I've been trying to wrap my head around psionics for a while. Like, in D&D, why isn't the Wizard school of "Enchantment" or "Divination" just psionics? Why are psionic powers all over the place with non-mind-related effects like fire control and GRAFTING WEAPONS TO YOUR ARM? Are Mental Mutations basically it? Could somebody use Mental mutations as a stand-in for Psionics if they wanted to run DCC+MCC in the Dark Sun setting?
After the amazing quality of DCC, it's shocking that they left out some important game play information, as well as some of the higher level wetware. This just smacks of laziness, and that disappoints me more than anything. Goodman Games, you need to do better. Don't give us amazing, and then release lazy, half-baked products and expect customers to be happy about it.

Welcome halfway back, Jeff.
Welcome back! Glad that you're on the road to recovery and it's great to see you!
Thank you!

Glad you enjoyed it

Nice seeing you up and about..best wishes
Thanks 👍
I don't use luck in DCC or MCC. The classes don't make MCC fun to play; the mutation tables make characters interesting
The problem is for players who don't want to have characters with mutations...
A thorough and fair review. Thank you for doing this.
My pleasure!
I wish I had the money for this boon
I think MCC works better as a supplement for DCC than a stand alone game. If you have both books, you really have absolutely loads of gaming there.
