Imagine seeing your old mentor, who stuck by you and guided you for at least a few years at this point, who’s probably like family to you by now, laying in your arms as a dried up corpse, and it’s because you and the team your leading were too late to save him. It’s but more a gut punching to those who played the first game. I mean, of course splatoon wouldn’t go that far, for how dark it can get it’s still very much a kids game, plus they didn’t outright say he was dead, just dehydrated, so it’s possible capn cuttlefish could have been near death or “beyond help” at worst. (Or it could just be tiptoeing around the word “die” at all because age ratings but still) Also sense it’s common in media for the mentor archetype to die, in my mind there was still a small chance that capn cuttlefish could have straight up been killed off for real. I felt genuine relief when capn cuttlefish rehydrated. Also side note when small fry turned into huge fry I felt like a proud mama. There he is! My special boy!
