    Thanks for the demo! I can hear the impact the plugin has on the transients just running through it. Curious if you'd ever try the SSL native content too? One of the benefits of the Waves SSL is that the saturation content happens in line with the plugin. The SSL native has a separate plugin for saturation. I really like the fidelity of the SSL Native most as far as SSL emulation plugins go. The plugin dr visuals were really insightful in showing row impact of even activating the eq circuit. The high mids sound very good in the Waves and the top end seems sweeter. Definitely a tempting tool to get!

    Isnt the brown knob ssl 4000g and black knob 4000E?

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  3 года назад +4

      Nope. SSL produced several eq's:
      E series
      O2 type (Brown Knob) - this is the oldest.
      232 type (Orange Knob) - sometimes referred to as Pultec
      242 type (Black Knob) - Views on this one are very polarized. At customers request it was often built into new G series consoles however many studios retro-fitted G EQs into their previously Black EQ desks. It has as many critics as fans.
      G Series
      292 type (G Series Pink Knob) - Basically the same as the Black but with a frequency divider on the low mid freq and a multiplier in the high freq which substitute the BELL switch present on all the other ones (this would be my personal fav SSL channel eq)

    well, a good design improvement over the orignal waves series, they were maybe the first going into ssl emulation (apart from oxford which had the three mode eq with ssl emulation on mode 3).
    The only thing maybe I still missing is the possibility to have a "mix" control on compressor for parallel processing like brainworx stuff, and maybe control over attack....but neither real ssl has these features so it's ok.
    I like so much also the improved meters, now they feels like real professional meters, way better than old wave ssl channel.

    On a total sidenote; I somehow zoomed in on the word 'review'. Technically this is a view. There is no revision: you are not viewing something you have seen before (like a film, sports game or theater show), instead you are viewing something you see for the first time. English isn't the only language with this problem. In my native Dutch we use recensie, lit. from Latin origin recensus. A census is a judgement, but I'm not sure how we are re-judging something that we are viewing / judging for the first time. So it should be a view and a censie. I mean, if all words would work like that, when I enter a building for the first time I would return... Silly word: review.

    I seen a lot of people say this is really just CLA Mixhub with the SSL logo on it. I actually like CLA Mixhub, but since I have that, I really don't see the need to get this one. Honestly I think their classic SSL channel strip sounds a little bit better. Also... This will get me hated for this one, but I personally think SSL Native sucks. I think people are brainwashing themselves because it's SSL's own plugin. SSL makes great hardware, but their software sucks. My opinion. 🤷‍♀️

    Waves is a little late to the party. They sat on the old version for years, whilst everyone else was offering better, updated options. Most people probably have 3, or 4 SSL emulations at this point and don't need another.

      Funny because I've been preferring and using "the old one" up until I got C1 in every mix, and it was always better than the "updated versions". Same for some of their "very old" plugins. New, doesn't equal better all the time, but marketing will make people believe anything

    Why bother with these SSL clones when SSL themselves makes plugin versions of their hardware? I understand most people don't have $300 to spare but if you really want an SSL plugin I suggest you save up because no clone will come close to their native Bus Compressor or Channel Strip. You'll be getting the true sound from the people who developed the hardware instead of from manufactures who add their own tonal colouration so that it fits with the rest of their product line-up.

    • @mixbustv
      @mixbustv  3 года назад +1

      I'm sure the SSL plugins will be great, but let me ask you this: Waves has been making plugins for 30 years. SSL has been making hardware for 30 years (or more). Why are you under the impression that an hardware manufacturer is better than a software manufacturer when trying to make software? SSL will have to go thru the same exact process than any other manufacturer to capture the hardware sound and make it into a plugin. So, one company has been doing this for decades, the other just started.

    • @dabaws8687
      @dabaws8687 3 года назад

      @@mixbustv The point I was making was that when you buy a Waves SSL plugin, you're buying an SSL-style plugin with Waves colouration that was made to fit sonically with the rest of their line up, where as if you bought it from SSL the plugin was made with reference only to the hardware and was not skewed one way or another so that it fits a more diverse brand aesthetically, which is what most manufacturers like Waves do when emulating hardware. When you buy from Waves you're buying a SSL-style plugin with Waves colouration and sound, where as when you buy an SSL plugin you get SSL colouration and sound. SSL is only emulating themselves, so why not go straight to the source?

    • @vigilantestylez

      Waves is not adding their own color. They modeled exactly a SSL channel strip they had in their office. Any color was to sound like the hardware. Now on to SSL Native. It is a direct import of the algorithms from the C200 digital console which was supposed to sound similar in many ways to the SSL XL9000K. Except without console color / saturation. Just because SSL makes it doesn't mean it is automatically better. Matter of fact Harrison is also guilty of this too. Their DAW is nice, but their plugins suck. SSL is the same. They haven't been plugin makers for long and they cut corners. The dedicated plugin makers have more experience recreating and reverse engineering analog gear to make into plugins. Testament to the excellent quality of Waves products is yes they are used in many number one billboard hits by the best engineers in the game. Now I prefer Brainworx plugins personally only because of that AMEK channel strip, and their SSL strips sound really nice too. Especially the 9000 J. Waves doesn't emulate those consoles so Brainworx is the only game in town for what I like. But Waves is not trash. They make excellent plugins. My 2 cents.

    I haven't watched the entire video, literally just clicked play. But Waves... Urgh, wish I had've gone Plugin Alliance or UAD in some cases. Waves business model (sell plugins cheap but only provide updates for 12 months after initial purchase) is so shitty - that $29 plugin will cost you so much more if you need the latest versions that supports newer hardware/architecture.

      This plug is not a scam, if you already own the SSL bundle it is free. That being said it is heads and tails better then the original so it is not a re release with a new skin, not at all. This version of the SSL channel is the best out there currently, it is better and more accurate then the BX, and it smokes the over saturated UAD version. This plug is actually better then SSL's own version of the 4000 E. It is subtle but there in the depth and tightness of the sound stage. Waves is still one of the best plug in companies in the biz and you may think that what ever you have is better and that is fine. They were the first to emulate and all other companies have copied them since, they are the only company that offers live sound solutions including networked and DSP solutions. UAD is great and I like much of their stuff but their DSP cards are Dinosaurs now and everybody invested in that system is gonna get it right up the butt in another year or two. If you don't know what FPGA sounds like you will cause all these companies are gonna switch over to it in the near future cause DSP can not compete. Long story short, Waves is no more of a scam then any other Plug in company and they happen to make some fantastic plug ins on par with the best.

      @@metalplatedfacejob you wrote all this for nothing honestly and you wasted your time. I will not change my mind, Waves really sucks as a company and their analogue emulations are the worst. And regarding their SSL emulation, it’s know by everybody that BX version and the new SSL Native are way better than Waves. Those who generally say that Waves has the best SSL channelstrip are those who never tried anything else and never tried or listened to a real SSL.
