Hey man great video. Used your video but maybe add that non base models have a OEM amp that the cables needed for the harness adapter are plugged into. Amp needs to be removed.
I know this is an old thread but I’m having trouble getting sound to my front speakers. Everything else works expect that. Any help? I have also had the oem amp
Over a decade of owning 3rd gen 4Runners and it never occurred to me to do this. Thankyou for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Right to Amazon purchased everything you recommended and install was a breeze. I would have over paid for a stereo that was half the beast of the ATOTo system. Apple CarPlay and RUclips! A+++ anyone on the fence about getting one DO IT
Great video! I actually returned this head unit because the volume buttons were terrible. They might work 1 out of 5 presses. It also would only connect to my phone randomly even though my phone would recognize the unit in CarPlay. Still my favorite channel for 4Runner content!
Mine hasn’t given me too many problems but I do agree the volume buttons could be better. My pioneer unit I used to have gave me a lot more problems than this one though.
Lots of praise below but man you’re a legend. Thanks for the help. Would have never been able to do this without this video. Works perfectly. CarPlay is awesome works perfectly with an IPhone. Seriously thanks man.
I decided to buy one of these and install it after watching your video, I ended up sticking the GPS antenna on top of one of the center air ducts rather than on the dash, I figured that was a good spot since there is only plastic above it.
Thank buddy! I will be doing mine tomorrow. Love your videos. You gained a subscriber. Also the don’t put it upside down ask me how I know was actually so funny!
No problem. I been wanting to do a stereo video for a while now. I figure this one would be good to help modernize our 4Runners. I had a lot of self inflicted issues with this video lol. My camera kept dying, the antenna broke, my cb radio was being annoying but I got it done!
I installed one on my 97 a few months back and it’s been working great. Wireless CarPlay is the best and can’t beat the price. Agreed with the adapter. Highly suggest going to Crutchfield and getting an adapter wiring harness so you can plug in to the original harness.
Great video, but I have 2002 and noticed the wire harness is different which is one plug, compare to yours is two. Bummer, I was excited to install the Atoto. I guess I have to look for another harness :(
@@PhoRunner Thank you and appreciate it! By the way, the plug that connects to the back of factory radio is a 20 pin. Forgot to specify that on my first comment.
@@PhoRunner I figured it out, mine has an integrated AMP behind the oem radio. There are two plugs underneath the AMP that matches with the two plug harness that were butt connected to the Atoto harness. I watched your video again and notice you didn't have an OEM AMP behind your Pioneer radio. Whew! I can now install the Atoto...it's been bothering me since then and I almost returned it lol
Great video, I like how you showed pretty much everything. I plan on doing this soon on my car but I was wondering if it's necessary to disconnect the car battery when doing this. I assume so.
Great video help out a lot! Just installed the Atoto S8 but I have a question, is anyone dealing with the antenna going up as soon as the accessories is on and it won’t go back down even when on BT option or even when the unit is manually turned off/rest mode? Please help! Thanks
Is your antenna going out? I have another video on it. The Atoto will extend the antenna when unit is on even if not used. But once off, should retract if things are working properly.
A few things to mention.. on the unit braket the small middle screw should not be used. On the second set of brakets the screw closest to the display cant be screwed in all the way. also the stock amp from the radio needs to be removed to use the wire harness adapters.
They just came out with a newer version with wireless android auto the screen is Qled and the buttons at the bottom are on the side and they are touch not clicky the model is A6 PF-A1its like $20 more. You just solved my issue with those wires, hows the car play working I hear people been having issue staying connected using that flush mount?
Great video! I installed in my 2002 4runner. The only thing I don’t like is that the unit automatically turns on when starting the car. This powers the antenna on which normally is not an issue unless it’s iced over or frozen. The antenna also doesn’t retract when the Atoto is turned off. It does retract when I turn off the car. Still researching to see if there is a setting to resolve this. Or maybe it’s time to get rid of the power antenna!
Phenomenal video dude! This set up looks awesome, I just ordered everythingfrom your parts list haha. Is there a build/story on your steering wheel? It looks like you either have a mint stock wheel or replaced it or something because it looks brand new. Let me know, thanks!
Was wondering if it was possible to splice wire your rear view mirror you installed in a previous video to also show on your atoto screen when you backed up?
I don’t have a video but I used double sided tape and a few screws if I recall. Also cut the housing some. It’s a tight fit back there and I had to get an 90 for the antenna connection
You mentioned you repaired your wiring harness from the car to its OEM harness as another owner had changed it. I am in a similar situation, could you explain how you did that? I am trying to install this same radio, and the previous owner of mine installed a different radio and had cut out the old harness and used butt connectors to adapt it. Thanks !
Just noticed that the previous owner cut my factory plug going to the radio also. Would you happen to have a part# for the factory plug? Did you wire it in using butt connectors or factory wires directly to pin in factory harness? Any feedback is greatly appreciated . Thank you
There’s no part number since it’s part of the oem harness. Do what I did and find a junkyard Toyota as they are all pretty much the same. I used but connectors for the repair.
@@PhoRunner that’s what I did Saturday. Picked up the two harnesses from salvage yard and there just happened to be an old Tacoma next to it. Scored the antenna too! Thanks brother for all of your help.
@@PhoRunner I picked up the harness and getting ready to use butt connectors to attach, but these wires look thin. Any idea of what gauge they are, or what size connectors you used? Thank you

I just got this for my 05 sequoia but I can't get it to update the firmware. I've tried leaving just the zip on the USB and unziped it but nothing gets it to start updating.
I ordered the same harness you linked below and it’s the wrong one the white connector doesn’t connect to the Toyota harness it’s 2 different sizes man…..

I wonder if the SR5 climate control will work on the LIMITED model. I'd rather have the more "analog" control than my push button. I have bad connections on mine and it's a pain in the butt.
I cannot get android auto to work. I've plugged it into the USB but it won't connect. I was able to set up BT and wifi off a Hotspot but that's not how I want to run it all the time
No problem. Basically you leave the car link app loaded and when you get in and start the truck, it connects automatically. Quite seemless if you ask me. The load time can take time sometimes but not bad at all.
