This video is everything I’ve been saying about them for years. I saw them live in a small club, probably back in ‘04, I think. I know A Beautiful Lie wasn’t released yet. They only performed 2 songs that would be in A Beautiful Lie. They weren’t the headliner…they were the opener. They were awesome. No ego, no production. Just a rock band playing a show. Now I wouldn’t go see them if I had free tickets.
Their self titled debut was a masterpiece. I wore that album out when it was released. A Beautiful Lie and This is War were different, but still pretty good. Everything after that, I had zero interest in. I’m all about change, and I’m not against switching genres. But I felt Jared’s ego got so inflated, they didn’t put any effort or feeling into the music. His celebrity sold the music instead of the music selling the music. You said it perfectly. It’s as if humans stopped making the music and just used A.I. Again, I’m not bothered by them not making the same album that they did 20 years ago (also I wish they did). I’m against not putting effort and feeling into it, knowing you’re so famous, it’ll sell anyway. That day I saw them as an opening act, twenty some years ago, in a small club was probably one of the best shows I’ve seen. Now it’s not even a band. It’s just both Leto brothers’ inflated ego on stage, with backing tracks. No thanks.

Same here. Saw them at Rigley Theatre....not headliner either. It was a place that was so run down Im not really sure it shouldnt have been just called underground. lol I mean, Im not sure they were all legal..but it was a great show. They even signed cd's after. I mean, they WORKED from the ground up just like every other band and , maybe had a little bit of edge up monitarily, but they got the listens the same as anyone else. I stopped listening after This is War. Too big and, frankly, out of touch.

Hi, fan of MARS here. Having seen them live twice in my lifetime, during the height of both This is War and Love Lust Faith + Dreams, I wanna go on record by saying… 30 Seconds to Mars were the greatest thing ever in my life once upon a time and their music inspired me in a positive way while in a dark period I struggled to get out of… that band… IS NOT THE SAME ONE IN AMERICA OR ITS THE END OF THE WORLD! I dont blame Tomo for quitting tbh, the band is currently running on autopilot while it feels like all of their songs are being handled by everyone on the music business EXCEPT for Jared and Shannon who spearheaded nearly every decision and helped create masterpiece after masterpiece. That band is gone! I don’t know if they’ll ever be able to make a proper comeback, but I’m holding onto the smallest veil of hope that Jared will wake up from whatever vegan crap he’s ingesting and realize that whatever the hell they’re currently doing IS NOT FUCKING WORKING!

i happened to be in the front row of a 30secondstomars concert at a festival a couple of years ago. and let me tell you. it was one weird experience. you could tell by the way he acted and the girls around me suddenly all started crying just b ecause he appeared on stage.... that something was off. like. nothing he said had any real meaning, it was all in #deep territory, and he just really celebrated... himself. no other band member could be spotted on stage, it was all playback. at a rock festival. and him acting like he was the next big jesus. a fifty year old guy deliberately rellishing in his fan crowd of 18 to 22 year old women.
he was also the only guy at the entire festival who wouldnt give kudos to anyone on the stage, who were so far back you couldnt even see them.

I am a former die-hard fan. Got my triad tattoo, bought the deluxe edition of LLF&D, went two times with the "golden ticket" experience to their shows, and even was an extra on the "Up in the Air" video. If it weren't for money, I would have gone to the Mars Island. Safe to say I had a heavy man-crush with Jared. Wanted to be him, look like him, sing like him. Also made a lot of friends thanks to going to the VIP experiences, and have very good memories of those times.
After America, I lost all faith in the band. Got my tattoo covered now. Hope they can turn it around, but really unlikely. Jared is an ego-maniac. The few interactions I've had with him, I could tell he's very full of himself. My impression is that after the Joker and Morbius, he flipped. Maybe all the hate got into him, and ruining 30stm could be his revenge with the world...

He said he trusted me and that was that 25 minutes we spent chatting and no rush to leave. Fast forward to a month ago met him again still the same down to earth beautiful human I met over a decade ago. You can say shit about him but really be honest with yourself you got a little obsessed with him you even stated you dressed like him. Nothing anyone say will change my opinion of them they saved me and continue to get me through hard times. Now their next album is going back to their roots let’s see if you keep this same opinion of him.

    • @Soujiro89
      @Soujiro89 Месяц назад +2

@@xMars4Lifex glad you had good interactions with him. It wasn’t the same for me. I didn’t want to go into details but here it is:
First time meet and greet, very casual, barely spoke.
Second time on the up in the air set, he was filming everyone one by one, everyone was making “cool poses” and faces. When he’s filming me I try to make a cool pose, and he yells at me saying “no pose!”, I didn’t quite listen to him because I was super nervous, and english is my second language. So he yells again. I froze. My shot in that video is completely still, while most others are making some kind of action move.
Later everyone gets called to do some more shots of people throwing dust, he calls people individually, and I was one of the left out. I stood by the sidelines watching everyone being filmed, while he excluded me and some others. Luckily Tomo was close and we chatted. He was pretty down to earth.
Third time it was in another meet and greet. Everyone was allowed to ask one question, and I asked him how he learned to power-scream. He gave me the simplest three word answer: “i just do it. Next question”. I waited for years to ask him that question, and he gave two flying fucks.
Later that time it was picture time, and I asked to be between Shanon and Tomo, Jared acted offended that I hadn’t chose him. In my picture it shows him being somewhat offended.
I’m not saying he is terrible, he’s just a little bit full of himself. Yes, his music changed my life in more ways that I can explain. But they also went down a path of selling out. If the new album is good, and I 100% hope it is, I’ll applaud them.
If it isn’t, then I’ll know why. I don’t claim to know the guy, but I’ve been so immersed in his music, film, and products, that I understand him. And he is a very proud and arrogant person. It might be what got him to stardom in the first place….

    • @xMars4Lifex
      @xMars4Lifex Месяц назад +1

@@Soujiro89 last month at the M&G he was asked the same question how do you scream you have to remember he gets asked the same thing time and time again. He asked that he actually just screams so hope that answers you question and you get closure. It might be a language barrier as you said English is your second language.
You have to remember Jared is a perfectionist I have always said I would never work with him he has the highest of standards. Are you the guy who is standing there with a blank expression? I think that’s a cool part of the video.
Jared has no filter he even says that he’s too harsh sometimes it’s his flaw. I’m sorry you felt like he treated you badly. I know a lot of the people throwing coloured chalk powered were those from the Kings and Queens video I think he just wanted them in it so don’t take it personal.
Tomo is beautiful isn’t he. You know how you aren’t meant to touch them “inappropriately” they tell you when you first go in. Well as I walked passed him got the photo he yells out “she touched my bum” I was mortified and screamed “no I didn’t” they all just laughed at me. They like to play jokes in people. As for the photo thing he’s known for acting upset when people choose to stand between Tomo and Shannon.
Last M&G was probably the best for Q&A they answered a lot of questions they do presigned posters now so it gives you more time with the band talking. You summit questions before going and they give them to the band Jared looked at them and obviously didn’t like them or had an idea what people would ask and he just went and asked who had questions. There new album is going to be back to their roots and Shannon said it will be a rock album and Jared said think TIW part 2 so I’m pretty excited about that.
I’m sorry you felt your experiences were bad but I truly think it’s a language barrier and dude if he didn’t want you in the video you wouldn’t have been in it. He probably wanted that reaction out of you for the video. If you want to talk further I have started a new IG @CindySMBC_ (name to be changed soon as it going to be a account to share my experiences with all the bands I’ve met a music digital diary) DM me and we can talk more in private.

But I think they’ve declined a lot when Jared started focusing more on acting and his ego.

Love Lust Faith + Dreams was the last album I bought and I went to see them on their UK tour in 2018(?). Something felt off and it felt like there was no heart and no true emotion anymore, something that I loved about their older music, especially as, like many others, their music got me through some tough times in the late 2000s/early 2010s. Noticing a theme with former emo bands. They all peaked when they were in the thick of the scene. But as soon as they bled out because that scene is over, there is really only few directions that there is to take. A band could either adapt or fumble. And many did fumble due to not adapting. Then there's 30 Seconds to Mars where I had said one man's ego eclipsed the entire band. They were adapting and they might've still seen success post-emo. Then Jared and his brother got in the way.

i'm a huge fan of 30stm and i have been since literally the first album. and i mean fan as in 8 tattoos, merch, bought meet & greets, etc. what i can say is that the 'yes this is a cult' mentality has existed among the echelon (the fans) from the beginning, so honestly mars island/mars camp/church concerts(vyrt included) were never really something concerning for who was already into it. however, i agree that from america on there's just... a lack of what made the band actually important to me and so many of us. in a sense where it's honestly just felt a lot more like there's not a single care being put into what reaches our ears. and other fans may disagree with me here, say that the lyrics and the message is still there, but it's just... lazy writing, lazy generic messages, it's just not the same. it does not make us think anymore. there is no symbolism anymore. the attention to everything that's made 30stm exciting is no longer there. doesn't mean i'll stop listening, doesn't mean i'll hate the band, i'm just disappointed, as a fan.

Closest thing I have to a hot take is that This Is War was the only album that had no songs that I skipped. Their self-titled album had "Buddha for Mary" which I always thought was a lyrically and musically uninteresting drag and A Beautiful Lie almost nailed it only for the final song "Hunter" to sour things on the way out. (Back in the olden days of RUclips before official uploads of songs were available, the stream of A Beautiful Lie I'd listen to just didn't include Hunter, I don't know if it was accidental or intentional, but it was a good idea.)

A Beautiful Lie helped me get through a tough time in high school where I felt alienated from my friends. Then a couple years later I bought This is War a few months after it came out. I had hit another low point in my freshman year of undergrad (the realization that college is a lot harder than high school lol), and that album represented a turning point for me. I bought Love Lust Faith + Dreams right before I left for grad school (actually the last physical CD I bought) and that was largely the soundtrack of my drive from Indianapolis to Seattle. "Do or Die" really resonated with the optimism I was feeling at that time.
I remember not being that impressed when "Walk on Water" came out (I only bought the song on iTunes to put to a video I took of a goose walking on thin ice). Then I saw the cover for America and that killed any desire I had to buy it, and I'm fairly sex-positive. It was just clear to me that Jared's ego had gotten way too big. Can't say I was too surprised when I first saw the photos from the island...

Shout out to Last Call With Carson Daley. He had a ton of indendent artists on his show and some that were just flying under the radar. He had a whole episode with Adele before she made it really big internationally.

I totally agree with you. I really love the first three albums and still listen to them occasionally. I checked out their last three albums but didn't buy them. Latest album is especially uninteresting musically or lyrically. If they try something interesting, I will give it a try in the future, but not holding my breath.

I went to the 30STM show since my husband and I are huge AFI fans. We weren’t big fans but wanted to give them a shot hoping they would be at least entertaining. We left after two songs. Thank you for validating my feelings on them. The whole crowd was packed though and enjoying the show. The whole cult thing is bizarre.

Really love this format! I loved 30STM in the 2000s but definitely "lost touch" with them, so to speak. Did not realize how far theyve gone.
To be fair, Im old enough to be a Jared Leto fangirl from watching him as Jordan Catalano on "My So-Called Life". Even then, Jared Leto had a bit of a rep as a self important d-bag.

I can't see any reality where 30 Seconds to Mars will improve but I also am kind of ok with that. They really are a band for me where their first album is my favorite by far and everything else I don't see myself coming back to very often, and that's also how I tend to be with Maroon 5 (odd how both 30 Seconds to Mars' self titled and Songs About Jane both came out in 2002).

I'm all for evolving and not re-making the same album again and again just because it was successful.
Having said that, there's a difference between a band who's evolving and a band who's morphing into a completely different band because of trends or...whatever the reason may be.

  • @ShinRobjira

30 Seconds to Leto used to be one of those bands I'd pre-order digital and physical copies for. For 3 great album runs.
While I'd love if it they were to add in some new members and bring back a fuller sound and concept beyond all that's been coating their tunes as of late,
it just seems like more of a payday now, than an actual project to be creative and daring with. The sad thing is, they absolutely could do that. Easilly.
Jared just seems so far gone up his own rear-end to the point where even entertaining a release that isn't held together with FLStudio beats, Vogue magazine look-book pages,
and absent minded tumblr poetry, is as far away as Mars itself. Huge bummer.

I used to love 30STM. I think I got in to them when the second album came out like most and loved that and first album. I saw them live in 2008 here in the UK and it was great. To me the downfall happened after that. I think I got this is war and some of the other albums just to see what they were like but thought they were all terrible. I think the band should've just given up if he's more invested in acting now. His ego got too big and now he can't handle that they can't sell out your dates by the sound of it. I can see them not continuing after that. And the cult stuff was so weird.
