    Sam, i really wish id watched this vid before i published my last ride a few days back on a 600 metre downhill in Spain. I had a Rant about the mismatch of mtb tyres fitted to emtbs after the 'marble' strewn ride on rubbish 2.5 'Nobby nics', done the same ride on Maxxis 2.8s with much more control, on one bike & Kenda 2.6s one another, the Maxxis feel flimsy in the sidewalls tho.- Most Glad You tested these out mate, im definitely going to head back to that confounded hill with some of these Emtb specifics. Im a old motocrosser with rediscovered passion - but bad tyres ruin a good downhill. Keep up the good work lad! I done several countries this year and fretted about this matter. Decent tyres were and are confidence boosters. Im 56 years young, most of the 40 years i spent off road on two wheels in one form or another- Emtbs till i Die ( later than sooner)

    Love your video, thanks. Question: I have a 750 watt fat tire e-bike. The bike has Kendra tires on it. I live in the desert and here we have goat head thorns that are going through my tires all the time! I get a flat at least once month, its becoming a pain to deal with, getting flats in the middle of nowhere is not fun. I have the tuff liner in them with a tube, and i run a bottle of slime in each tire, but i still get flats. Is there a better, stronger fat tire that would repeal a thorn? I have the 20x40 fat tires. Thanks!

    I agree Sam - why do YT supply our Decoys with the minions on exo casings. They just aren’t fit for purpose for a heavy E Bike doing anything remotely interesting up a mountain. I changed the rear of my decoy 29 to a 2.6 Eddy and I love it. I plan to get a 2.6 up front over the next few weeks too. Minion Double Downs we’re on the list as were E Wilds.. but for the life of me couldn’t find them in decent 29er sizes in the UK at Mo. Glad really as I’m impressed with the Eddy, I run 24psi on the rear to play It safe (88kg with kit..no cushcore etc installed). Your videos r getting better Everytime too... Nice one 👍🏽

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  4 года назад +1

      Thanks bro thar really means a lot, look I think it comes down to cost and weight of the bike, yt would dona deal you buy a whole heap of minions and also they can say the bike is 22kg and this makes maybe 60% happy and maybe they make more sales out of it but I love to see people like commencal putting full fat dh tires on there Ebikes! I’ve run the e wild good but I found the rubber to hard and didn’t grip as well as a minion or a current! Thanks for watching and let’s hope my videos can keep getting better!

    I like to ride with identical tires front and back since that gives me the option to keep the front twice as fresh by moving front to back when back is worn out. Probably more difference in my head then in real life. But anything that helps.... 🙂

    Just for info I have run a range of Schwalbe tyres on my Scott E-genius - all 29x2.6" - riding around the South Downs in UK My conclusions - Nobby Nic - avoid in 2.6" wide as too much exposed rubber between knobs and very prone to punctures - may be better in narrower versions but gave up with them and went for Magic Mary front and back. Excellent all rounders and good in the British winter mud but wear out quickly on rear in harder summer condition. Replaced worn out Magic Mary with Hans Dampf - disaster as tyre split on first ride - I put it down to harder compund which was not up to the rough surfaces of the South Downs. So went for Eddy Current on rear - good grip until the last few weeks of very wet and muddy conditions in UK. Loses traction very quickly on wet uphill - probably due to tight tread pattern which does not diperse mud very well So have now reverted to the old faithfuls - Magic Mary back and front and now back in control in our lovlely UK mud

    I recently replaced my tires on my Decoy Pro 29 to a Maxxis Assegai 2.6 up front and a Maxxis Aggressor 2.5 in the rear. I've only ridden on them once in the wet so not a very good judge of how they will perform on loose over hard packed on most of my home trails. Have you ridden the new Assegai yet? You don’t have 29” front and 27,5” back anymore? The thing is I have the same Decoy as you have and most of my riding is mid/heavy trail in the hilly part of The Netherlands (south). My average ride is around 40-50 km’s full blast in Trail-mode, averaging 20 -23 km/hour and with this I find my battery range just on the edge and ai would love to get some more out of it. I’m still riding on the original tires but after 1350 km’s the rear is almost gone now. Going to a mullet 2,4 front and 2,6 back with the Eddy’s was one of my ideas to keep good grip but maybe get a little less rolling resistance and more speed...what are your thoughts Sam?

I was happy with the traction of the rekon but want a little more tire life and better puncture resistance. I don't want to add more drag as I do use this bike on the road as well but want to keep around the same level of traction. How does this tire stack up to the rekon? Looks like it's back to the drawing board to find a good ebike tire again as I think the eddy currents would have more drag on tarmac then the rekon when I'm on the road? If not and they lasted as long or longer I would go that route{remember I'm referring to the wear that would be occurring when the street}

      @@SamsBikes have you tried any michelin ebike tyres as yet. If so how do they compare?

    That Eddy current comment is in danger land. Generally, in physics, Eddy currents just slow things down. ;) ... And IMO the weight, rolling resistance and price resistance is a huge price even for the heaviest Ebikes. If I was a 200 lb rider on a 30 lb regular bike would anyone care?..., so why would tires matter suddenly for an 180 lb rider on a 50 lb ebike?

    These are NIGHTMARE to put on. And when I wanted to take them off I had to cut them in half. Also very heavy. I went for Maxxis DHR II on my Turbo Levo and never look back - same traction on different conditions, much lighter.

    REALLY only for gravity stuff. If you ride anything else.... dont... absolutely agree with you Sam but they roll like bricks and playfullnes??? forget it. I will put mine on again when (at last) i will hit some really chunky mountain stuff. Try and turn the motor off and pedal these pigs. You will se what i mean ;-)
