This week I’ll show the images from the Cancun wedding I just got back from. I was super happy with the results. Many images I swore wouldn’t be focused on the eyes because the focus box wasn’t close to the face…sharp. Wow.
wished they had put this update out before I had shot my nephews graduation, but it is what is and I was able to get more than enough good ones using the XH2s w/50-140 2.8. I did do the update shortly after seeing Chris' (Pal2Tech) video and now I just need to get out with it
The latest firmware update (ver. 7.00) has certainly not improved the autofocus of my x-h2s for fast-action photo and video (it's just ok for slow-moving or static objects). It was a lot snappier and more accurate when I first bought the camera 2 years ago. I regret having upgraded. I'd like Fuji to offer a downgrade back to the original version of the software.
I do agree! Where is the Factory Reset?? Not having that option is frustrating. This way if the updates do you wrong just feel safe knowing a factory reset would get ya back to how you bought it!
I shall do that test later today as well. I photographed a band last night with 400 people in the venue. I’m super pumped by the results. Thank you for being here. 🤘😎🤘
Continues was never the issue though. Continues + any kind of tracking is the issue everybody is furious about, which can also be seen in your samples.
I'm finding that continuous AF+face tracking (leaving eye detect turned off) is now super sticky, and get less confused about what it should be focusing on. This a perfect setting for kids running about erratically (tracking sensitivity +4, speed tracking sensitivity +2, focus zone switching auto, AF mode set to wide/tracking, and pinpointing your target in the small frame first, and using BBF) etc as let's face it, trying to nail eye AF in that situation isn't really needed. I'm still finding eye detect erratic for fast moving objects, but for slower or more predictably moving objects it works better. In short, it's a huge, huge improvement over what we had. Up until yesterday my Fuji gear was ready to get packed up and shipped out as my OM-1.2 was way more accurate/reliable, but I'm pleased to report now on back to back tests with both, the Fuji is now in the lead.
@@benejpocock I concur! I really was shopping other brands to rent just to see what better focusing could do. I'm not changing my firmware beyond 7.0 for a while. It works great for me as of now. :)
In my previous comment (which has been removed) I had in mind, that testing eye/face tracking in AF-C with lens set to f/5.6 aperture gives basically useless conclusion, because in aps-c sensor f/5.6 aperture gives more-less same DOF as f/8 on full frame. And with such big DOF every focus miss by camera AF system is "blurred" by depth of field. In short, You wonna test cameras eye/face tracking in AF-C - take new Fuji f/1.4 primes, and try tracking Your son running towards camera with lens aperture set to f/1.4 :) Then You will see how rally good Fujifilm AF is ;) (Spoiler alert, You will get around 50% hit rate)
Im sorry but many images in this video are not sharp. Not just two like you mentioned. For example at 3:11 the image is not sharp at all like you mention. It focused on the leaves on the back. You also dont show the images from 3:12 to 3:17 (i guess because they werent in focus). And the last image you zoomed in is actually blurry and not that sharp. The af is better for sure that the 6.0 but still far behind. from anything else in the market.
new vid from a real job, live band, better real-world examples. RUclips also compresses its media. I'll share a few images from the band on the Facebook page. (Focused with GK) ruclips.net/video/gOc3T2os-ZI/видео.html
Just after watching this video and thought the same thing. Around 3:01 there is a shot where the box is green but the focus is in the background. I think you show the image at 3:11. It’s the false positives that are the big issue with Fuji autofocus at the moment. You see the green box in the viewfinder and think you’ve nailed focus but they are soft when you review the images after.
Agree. Most of the people talking about 7.0 is good at taking photos, not video. Multi in video is still a dissaster. 1.03 works "good" for me. But no more 7.0 please...
@@jcar4522 After 3 months of waiting I bought a fx3 from Sony, impossible for my customers to suffer autofocus problems and Fujifilm does nothing it's disastrous
I tested yesterday on flying seagulls, about 40 images and all were in the eye except 2 images. So pleased
You convinced me to update! Thank you for sharing
Nice one! Thanks! There is still hope!
You bet!
Thank you for the update. I’ve yet had a chance to test firmware 7.0.
Nice. Like the upgrade to.
Nice results! Just did upgrade my X-T5 firmware, although I never use the eye-AF feature.

How do you like the 50-140??
@@FocusedwithGK Have loved that thing since I got it a couple years back. ;)
@@FocusedwithGK I'll post the image I took with it that i am really proud of, even though I did have to crop in, in the FB group page. 😉

I wish they would update the x-T4. It works ok but does miss a bit.
Unfortunately, the video autofocus is still very poor. The autofocus cannot track a person walking slowly towards the camera without errors...

Usually I could never do continuous and face+eye. The firmware before this one was unstable. I’ll have real jobs next week I’ll share results with.

Exactly what I thought when watching this. No point to do that test at 5.6.
Problem is with video.. Af, Af tracking, face/eye detact is bad!
Yep
@@FocusedwithGK Hope fuji gives us a fix soon
👏👏👏👏👏👏
For video AFC is totally useless and untrustworthy. Photography is easy for most cameras out there.
Truth be told I don’t use it for video professionally just clips when needed. Any video that is long form I refer my video friends. 😎

And also the aperture was on 5.6. I want to see how it behaves on a wider f stop
