Hi Yarbros! If you are still in the area I really recommend another little town 20 minutes from there. Xico, Veracruz and Xico El Viejo. There are beautiful waterfalls and the town is adorable. They not only roast coffee but they also make their own special mole sauce which is more suttle than the Oaxacan variety. In Xico El Viejo you will fall in love with the view of the mountains and can visit trout farms. They have an awesome garden restaurant and have the best trout dishes!

You're right! The best coffee is grown at high elevations and Chiapas is at much higher elevation than Veracruz. I currently live in San Cristobal de las Casas, Chiapas, and the locally grown coffee here is delicious.

I have been Xalapa three times and took that bus to Coatapec. That part of Mexico is amazing. I always say the port of Vera Cruz is the gateway to Europe,and has been for hundreds of years, so there is that influence and not the U.S.A..So I feel a different vibe than the North Xalapa is a university town and has a great museum too.

Un Veracruz they have very good coffee. But the best coffee in all of México is in Chiapas. You also find very good coffee (but not as good as Chipas or Veracruz) in Michoacán and Oaxaca.
Veracruz has a lot of history and culture- you are right that it is popular with Mexicans but not so much with international tourists. They have their own music (son Jarocho) which is a fusion of Spanish, African and indigenous sounds- this is where the song La Bamba is from. They have a Caribbean accent very different from other Mexicans. They’re a port town, so very diverse. They have a close relationship with Cuba and musically influenced by them as well. And then there’s the coffee! 😱 I’ve always wanted to visit!
We dont have a Caribbean accent, our accent was influenced by Black Africans, our accent is more similar to Guerrero than it is to the Caribbean, people need to stop spreading false things. Son Jarocho is a fusion of Andalusian and African, no indigenous played a role in the development of the genre.
Thanks! Nah, we drink coffee like that daily so no big deal there. The coffee's in Coatepec have a more specilized taste to them. We brought a Cubano blend and it beat the breaks off what we had at the 1st cafe and its far superior to the coffees named in the states.
Depends on whether we recommend for living, vacation, and interests. But I’d say our favorite cities might be Morelia, San Miguel de Allende, Queretaro, and CDMX.
