I got to be honest, what was Primus thinking when he created this guy? "I think I will give him the ability to skillfully talk and trick people, what could go wrong!"
Primes understood the concept of balance and knew in order for his children to prosper he needed 1 or 2 to become the villains of their story
a similar principal he represents is used in media like rave master with the 9th sword sacrifar, for as much light there must be a counterbalance of darkness
If Final Fantasy has taught me anything, it's that too much darkness or too much light is bad, they must be balanced.
Lol
@Tanmay Sharma G7 a trickster is a master of deception and cunning, if I recall right he was the strategist of the primes (it takes cunning to plan and counterplan)
I'm honestly baffled that they haven't made an explicit connection between the Liege Maximo and Pretenders yet. I mean, he's the "lord of lies and deception" and he's got both a giant, pseudo-organic monstrous form and a small, skinny humanoid form... seems like a natural fit!
(No, the Prime Master doesn't count. And neither do the Maximals, since whatever was going on there was never explained.)
....I never thought of that! That is a good idea!
Well Bludgeon and Monstructor (who are Pretenders) were aligned with the Maximals, who were in turn aligned with Liege Maximo, in the IDW Unicron comic. Close enough?
@@battleupsaber462 Nah, see, Liege didn't have anything to do with them being Pretenders! Doesn't count!
Like perhaps pretender tech was a reversed engineering or rediscovery of a relic belonging to leige maximo. That would be cool!
Considering that Leige Maximo manipulated and deceived Megatronous, you might say that he is the first true Decepticon. A Prime who lied so well that Megatronous gets nearly of history’s condemnation.
The whole thing with the Maximals, that would have been a brilliant twist when Beast Wars was still starting, revealing that they weren't descended from the Autobots but rather Maximo.
nice
ah ha so that's why their command code was MAXIMIZE
Shocking
Another idea is that he could be the true ancestor of Tarantulas and the Tripredacus Council. It would explain how they would survive an Ark destruction that would kill off Megatrons Decepticons, but not Liege Maximo, allowing Tarantulas and the Council to survive.
Would’ve been a powerful message about not blaming a race for the evil of their ancestors.
I actually like the fact that Liege Maximo is indirectly the true first Decepticon. I mean, the word “Deception” is one of his major attributes and Megatronus was simply a pawn and all other pawns of his grand plan that would link with Unicron and the Quintesaunts. That would make the lore of the TF so deep and fresh!
Yeah but Megatronus is the Prime of Darkness and the opposite of Prima and Megatronus’s helmet was used as the template for the Decepticon insignia in Trasnformers lore.
For the Aligned Continuity, Liege was the First Decepticon, since if you look at him right, his horns help to make the Decepticon symbol.
I would go so far as to say it was Maximo who was stuck in another dimension for the Robots in Disguise cartoon, saying he was Megatronus to throw everyone off.
This makes Swoop look like an absolute badass
Always has been.
Simon Furman sure loves Dinobots
Yep
I mean, he and the other Dinobots took on Unicron in the 86' movie. They've been badass for a long time.
@@johnnygyro2295 When you put it like that
This guy right here; Liege Maximo is the one, true -villain- of Transformers. Unicron is a force of nature, The Fallen was crucially misguided, Megatron got lost in his own dark side, and Galvatron was legit crazy. But Maximo? He's 100% evil.
I see Unicron as evil as well, he eats planets and is trying to destroy the universe.
@@MetaFanWing he's chaos, not evil
Only Liege Maximo is less destructive than Unicron. Unicron and the Fallen's end goal is the annihilation of reality. Liege Maximo wants to conquer planets in the name of Primus and himself. Even if Liege Maximo was the one who tricked the Fallen into defecting to Unicron, the Fallen still surpasses him in evil by being, well, aligned with Unicron. That's why the Fallen had his name struck from history while Liege Maximo is still remembered.

Edit: And now all the other replies are gone. Enjoy my nonsensical thread.
Not the worst, just went on break at work. how are you?
@@thesadistor-hl7lw
Sure.
Liege exemplifies something I've realized is one of my favorite parts of the transformers franchise: the universe they've created is so vast, and takes itself just seriously enough that when there's a character type or concept that was originally created by some other franchise that they like, they can just create a place for it within their franchise.
I mean, look at Maximo. Writers liked the idea of an ancient, powerful, and enigmatic trickster character like Loki, so they just made one; and they can do that with just about anything. Given the fact that any character they create is naturally going to have major physical differences from whatever the character is based on, and the inherent goofiness about the franchise as a whole, means their character creation/adaptation, and storytelling potential is basically endless.
If Liege Maximo ever makes a cartoon appearance, then imagine him being voiced by Tom Hiddleston. And if he ever does get a toy, imagine his alternate mode being a staff or scepter.
Nice but to bad he'd didn't but that least his arm made a appearance
I was thinking Mark Hamill
I like to see Tom Hiddleston as Liege Maximo (if he makes a television or film debut) because he does resemble Loki from Marvel Comics and Norse mythology, and Tom Hiddleston is a perfect choice after playing as Loki in the movies.
@@spaghettisultan5484 Mark Hamill already voiced the Fallen tho.
@@foldabotZ And his lines sucked. Hell, the entire Machinema Transformers sucked and even Peter Cullen's lines were awful. And personally, Hamill voicing someone as physically brutal as the Fallen seemed weird. For VA, I would have picked Kieth David or Michael Dorn.
Liege Maximo: exists
Starscream: Daddy?!?
Is it just me that sees Megatronus and Liege Maximo as the prime version of Megatron and Starscream?
No man liege stronger than megatronous prime

Liege Maximo is by far one of the most underrated of all of the 13. I'm happy to have some spotlight shown on him.
NOT MOST
He's basically Robo-Loki...
I’m pretty sure like all but 2 are underrated...maybe 3. Like I’ve never heard about the exploits of alchemist prime, or the one that looks like a bay former.
I just imagine Liege as Loki and Alchemist as the Thor of the Primes.
"Hey, Liege - let's do Get Help."
"What?"
"C'mon, you love Get Help--"
"No, we are *not* doing Get Help."
“GET HELP”
@@antonissa8345 I have been falling for 30 MINUTES !!!😡😡😡😡
Liege is nothing like Loki
@@ycastro2003 Other than being modeled, both in body and personality, after Loki. So yeah. Did you watch the video?
Either Alchemist or Solus cuz sh'e's got the Hammer.
While Loki is an obvious choice as an inspiration for Liege. I'd love it if he split the difference between Elim Garak from Deep Space 9 and Mr. Gold from Once Upon a Time. Garak especially since he felt it incumbent to teach his charges the art of deception while he was deceiving them.
I’d certainly hope that Liege Maximo would know full well to never tell the same lie twice.
“But Maximo, which story about your origin was true?”
“My dear Autobot, they’re all true.”
“Even the lies?”
“Especially the lies.”
@Rahsaan Footman you're a Trekkie, Oncer and Transformer fan? We would get along really well.
Liege Maximo: The Loki of the Primes
*Loki: The liege Maximo of the gods.
Starscream of the MCU
You read my mind
Liege Maximo aka Starscream’s granddaddy
Then comes unicron
Okay, this really came out of a left field for me.
Yeah same
Stay in the right field then
I imagine for a future story that Liege Maximo's spark would be trapped in a weapon of his that Starscream would try to use it to overthrow Megatron again only to be possessed by the prime and suffer blackouts. When Starscream would beg Megatron for help the Decepticon leader would say. "Maximo was the most conniving and treacherous of the Primes. He must feel right at home in your body Starscream."
I'd like to see Liege Maximo begin his plot to ascend to godhood again, and succeed, taking on the terrifying form of his original G2 depiction.
It’s 4 am and I haven’t slept yet but 10 more minutes won’t hurt
For god sake sleep dude it bad for your health

Lol this is so me!
Long live Master of Manipulation.
We really need the whole 13 roster of action figures.
Well we have figures of Vector prime, Megatronus, Alpha Trion and a build a figure of Alchamist(Macadam). It's only a matter of time before the others get something.
@@Actionfan19 Nexus has a figure too. It's a collector's club exclusive using the Energon combiner teams.
I know its not much but there are the prime masters.
@@Actionfan19 Most of those figures are trash though. Especially if you're referring to that Cyber-verse line. Now 13 new Prime figures that range from Voyager to Commander class with WFC's influence in quality is one of the few things that would keep me interested in collecting despite these rumors of price hikes.
@@Peshi80 I only refer to alchemist for cyber-verse line. Titans return is the better Alpha Trion toy for the time being.
Given its flame-like design and color scheme, I always assumed the arm Megatron exhumed and had grafted onto himself was Megatronus', which would be a twist of cruel irony given Megatron used it to wield the forge of Solus Prime.
Liege Maximo is the Transformers universe equivelent of Loki
He even looks like him!!
Except we love Loki and his charming charisma. Liege Maximo's NOT. He can go the pits of Hell for all I care.
@@nourhajj4999 It looks like that's where the G2 iteration of the character came from.
Especially in the Aligned continuity.
He also resembles a.o.e. crosshairs.
@@angeliqueramos1816 good I guess, what about you?
Considering that Starscreem has clear power of Primes (immortality and ability to create clones) and considering his plotting mentality, it actually would make sense if he is reincarnation of Liege Maxino. In this case he and Megatronus, were most likely sealed together in the Prime Wars Trilogy.
Ever since I read the ultimate guide when I was a little kid I’ve always been fascinated by this guy.
I thought it was clever how they tied in the Maximals to Liege Maximo in the IDW comics. It makes sense given how similar their names are, in spite of them being previously-unrelated concepts.
(I didn't like how the Maximals were used in the comics tho, but that's another story)
It's a bit of a contrived connection, just because their names are similar.
I get the feeling that Kingdom might do a similar thing.
Me neither.
Don’t know why they made them evil.
Why couldn’t ALL the Beastformers have been on Eukaris.
I have to say if Hasbro and Marvel can do a story where Liege Maximo meets Loki it would be interesting to see what two pack toy of the two would look like ?
Always thought it might be interesting if we saw Liege Maximo and Megatronus as two primes both that combined created the Decepticons, but that the group was also split between factions aligned with one of them. With many of the more potent an powerful decepticons like Megatron being aligned with Megatronus, and others like Starscream being aligned with Leige as they were more devious, but many times the lower ranks of the faction hold fealty to both sides. 5
Megatronus: No one got scrap on me
Liege Maximo: *Are you sure about that*
Transformers: The Basics on Lok- OHHHH Liege Maximo! That makes more sense
One thing that Chris didn't mention:
The reason Liege Maximo manipulated Megatronus to kill Solus was because Solus refused to make Maximo a set of armor (that, according to some theories, would've been called the "Skyboom Armor").
I've had a recent theory regarding tfp/rid15 where in one final bait-and-switch, Maximo switched his and Megatronus' appearances before the Exiles battle. Really my only evidence for that is "Maximo's" arm being red, and rid15's Megatronus having horns, but I think it's cool nonetheless
That would be a cool head cannon…
Very good episode as ever Chris.
It's honestly a shame that the G2 comic ended when it did because it's clear that when it closed and Liege Maximo appeared you could feel that the story was on the tip of the iceberg and had it gone a little further we could have seen this character reek havoc on both bot/con factions. Because it's clear he had a sort of Cosmic Horror vibe thing going on with his design. At least Furman was able to tie up that loose end with Alignment.
Far as the other iterations go they seem like a hit and miss, the IDW incarnation in particular feels too much like a Loki homage and it's a bit difficult to think of Liege Maximo and not separate the variety of versions there are. But hopefully the more this franchise progress the more we can see him because he seems like a character that deserves more attention.
Excellent work as always, Chris. Perhaps, one day, we'll get some stories focusing on each member of the Primes that really fleshes them out, Liege included. I'd do it if Hasbro and IDW would let me.
Maximo is the most underrated of the primes in my opinion. Everyone else has either appeared in shows and movies or had a connection to things outside the comics. If he does get an on-screen debut, I hope they get the actor of Loki in the MCU to portray him
You should cover all of the 13 primes individually and make a basics on the high council.
Personally I like to see Liege explored more considering he was made to counter Prima's light. Like it would make more sense to see him more explored in that area rather than The Fallen because Megatronus was involved in entropy rather than darkness. That and I was never a fan of the Loki-like comparison, especially when we have Logos who fits the bill more.
At least someone remembers logos prime
Very cool! I know that most of the 13 Primes don't have much source material to cover, but any coverage of them is appreciated! Thanks for all your hard work and research Chris!
I can very easily work with this. This will definitely make running my D&D campaign
I wasn’t into TF very much growing up and I had no idea that the franchise has become so detailed since the original series and Diaclone license.
These videos make me wish I could time travel and buy every figure produced.
The Loki of Transformers.
I think for a future story they should go back to the idea where Liege Maximo was imprisoned by Vigilem. Then after he is set free, he decapitates Vigilem and becomes the new head the same way like Fortress Maximus. Then he looks more like his giant monstrous look from the G2 comics.
I didn't like the G2 comic but that last page in issue 12 had me fascinated for years.
Prima: Hey, let’s do “Get Help.” Come on, you love it.
Liege Maximo: I hate it.
Prima: It’s great. It works every time.
Liege Maximo: It’s humiliating.
Prima: We’re doing it.
Liege Maximo: We are not doing “Get Help.”
Prima: (dragging Liege) Get help! Please! My brother, he’s dying. Get help! Help him! (throws Liege against them) Classic.
Liege Maximo: Still hate it. It’s humiliating.
Prima: Not for me, it’s not.
Loki: so your brother beat you up too
Liege Maximo: Brothers
Loki: ouch
IDW put so much effort in making their Liege Maximo look like the next Dark Cybertron for the Transformers, and then they just made him a weakling that was trapped by Shockwave at the first chance
I love this lore I was seriously not expecting it!
honestly I feel like making Liege Maximo one of the Thirteen significantly detracts from the Fallen's character.
the Fallen is significant due to being the *only* one of the original Primes to turn evil,
and that significance is lost if another of the Primes was not only evil as well, but evil *long* before he was.
3:02 My favorite Dinobot took him down? Awesome!
Rarely anyone ever mentions how Liege screwed with Megatronous. Glad you brought it up here
The Loki of Transformers. Now could we get Nexus Prime to be the next
Gotta love Simon Furman & Geoff Senior, that last page in Gen 2 had me hooked for years. I ended up buying the Alignment novella off ebay to get the story many years later. Then the hub & General Jhiaxus in Regeneration One, was an awesome story addition to the original Marvel storyline.
They could bring him in for the last of Michael Bay's transformers movies as the entity behind it all, Waking Unicron, the boss for Quintessa, pissed the creators off to the point of sending Lockdown come after for Optimus, behind The Fallen's betrayal and so on, he should be the all bad guy, behind everything in from the movies, bring his ship and such in, and so on, so yeah
yet another personal classic!!
Morning Coffe (7am) and McFeely
Great video, Chris. I've never been a fan of TF gods and those mythical type robots and primes. I guess I like the more straight forward down to Earth (so to speak) storyline.
Yea same get a a bit to convoluted at times and are used more as a miguffen type for whatever season and story they're tackling with and what it calls for
This character have so much potential
In the alternate Aligned Timeline, Liege Maximo was NOT EVIL. Instead, he became the planet Eucarys: the homeworld of the Maximals & Predacons. Quintus Prime, however, wasn't so lucky. One of his five faces became Quintessa, who in turn DID what Liege Maximo did in the OG Aligned timeline.
Liege Maximo's first appearance in Generation 2 comic actually reminds me the Violator from Todd McFarlane's "Spawn" comics
Okay, does anyone know if there’s a holiday for Detectives? Because I hope Nightbeat gets his video released on it.
Best the Transformers channel on RUclips. I wait week for this
How come that sometimes, the most forgotten concepts are the one who really deserve to get more love?
He looks like loki, and their descriptions match lol
It would be cool if he's a main villain in the Hasbroverse crossover movie
Liege Maximo should be on Tv Media someday.
LOKI: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Transformer. You should be proud to be compared with me despite you as a lesser being.
LIEGE MAXIMO: Since when did I became "Sincere"?
4:13 Oh hey Loki, what's up? 😂
I had always wondered which prime Megatron graverobbed from in Prime. Good to know!
Who would've thought!
This is why I wait for Saturdays. Excellent work as always sir. Can't wait for spotlight episodes on the rest of the Thirteen
Just found your channel yesterday. Binged for hours. Love your work!
I want the next forgotten past episode being around Prima.
Agreed but while I want to know more about Prima I want to learn more about Solus Prime and Logos prime as well.
@@basedpota Oh Yeah! I forgot he did mention Logos in that video, I knew about logos in the unicorn trilogy I just wasn't sure if he had more to his story than I already knew.
Also Onyx Prime, Micronus, and Amalgamous Prime should be interesting to learn more about.
Finished work, and the basics! God I love my Saturday routine! Thanks Chris ♥️♥️
Megatronus: You seem to have trouble getting into movies and TV shows, Liege Maximo. Let me lend you... A HAND!
If IDW ever does another crossover with Marvel Liege and Loki have to team up, it's a match made in fanboy heaven.
While I like the idea that Liege Maximo is one of the Thirteen Primes, I like the idea of him being a representation of Darkness and evil over just Lies and deceit. My own headcanon/"if I wrote a Transformers series" is that Liege Maximo, Megatronus, Amalgamous Prime, & Quintus Prime became Unicrons first Four Horseman but them being Primes kept him from having full control over them and caused the infighting that lead to the war of the Thirteen and the end of Cybertrons first Golden Age.
So to add to this: Megatronus the Soldier became Galvatronus the Fallen, Amalgamous Prime became Devil Z as his endless transformations lead to him becoming a being of pure energy and locked away by his brothers, Quintess Prime became Violen Jiger and gave birth to life on other planets to help feed his new master; and Liege Maximo became Dark Nova as being the prime of Darkness, Lies, & Deception only grew him closer to the Chaos Bringer.
i am still curious about whether or not any of the main media is going to give us the real story behind number 13. the thirteenth prime is someone i would really like to know more about, i want to know what his role was in the fall of the primes. i hope one day we might find out.
Now we need a certain someone named Megatron reviewed.
It was Liege Maximo's arm Megatron took in TFP?
I admit that I haven't sen this show in years....but I could've sworn that it was Solis Prime's arm that Megatron took.
Guess I should go try to look this up sometime.
jhiaxus sound like a good basics video, one day he will have his own basics video
Love this, thank you for doing this 💗
The mythology of Transformers is as epic as any and all of the classics, be it Norse, Greek, Egyptian, Hindi, etc.
the fallen/megatronus is the Egyptian.
While everyone is talking about how Liege Maximo is the Transformers equivalent of Loki, I'm here like "this is guy is more like palpatine than loki", because other than the design, his role in the lore and actions makes him be more like Palpatine
While he's hardly the first character in TF history to be inspired by other fictional properties, this new version of Maximo being essentially a Loki analogue strikes me as egregious and not a little cynical. Not saying the G2 incarnation was especially remarkable but at least it was its own thing.
Yeah and the g2 design looked alien too not just a giant metal human
If he is like Loki, he definitely hates “get help”
Best version of Liege Maximo was the G2 version. There I said it.
On his Power of the Primes you there’s clearly a faction symbol that is obviously suppose to resemble his G2 face.
Thats symbol should have been the symbol of his and Jhiaxus’ Cybertronian Empire in the G2 comics.
So that's what Warframe and Transformers have in common. Loki Prime
One of my favourite transformers! He's so underrated!
I'm still waiting for you to do the basics of my favorite autobots:
Cliffjumper
Skids
Mudflap

And my favorite decepticons:

Megatron
Gotta love it when a random ‘bot becomes the key to victory rather than it always being a Prime.
I wonder what his vehicle mode could be if he did get a toy and transformed? A Cybertronian spacecraft? A tank? I'd be curious to here what hasboro's take on his toy would be.
I thought he looked like Loki in that other video you did on the 13 primes, thanks for getting it clear his official design was based off him, he's like Loki if he was a transformer because they both have the same titles: Mischief related.
A Basics on the Cybertronian Satan on my Birthday no less thanks for the Present Chris!!!!
Liege Maximo resembles Loki in more than just looks.
It’s not easy being green.
I kinda wish they dropped the Loki design a bit. It’s very cool and I love the reference but there are better ways to show a liar.
Never been this fast that the 13 primes still exists before liege maximo manipulates megatronus
Great video. When learning about how Liege Maximo's design was based on that of Loki, I wonder if the guy who played his MCU counterpart would voice him if/when he gets an actual movie or TV debut. Also, while understanding his deception & manipulation capabilities, I began to wonder if he was inspired or the inspiration of Black Zetsu from Naruto? Well I don't know about you, but what do you think?
I clicked as fast as Blurr
Maybe even faster
Liege Maximo is the token evil teammate of the 13 Primes.
"The basics of Amalgamous Prime" just wondering because with some origin of tbe one who can transform, but with it, the T-Cog, which gives all bots the ability to scan and transform
And still there no information about what happened to him
What always bothered me about Liege Maximo as a Prime is that he gets to stay in the Matrix of Leadership with the other Primes, even though he is pure evil and did terrible things intentionally. Meanwhile Megatronus is shat on by Prima and the rest for no reason, manipulated by Liege Maximo, accidentally kills Solus, exiles himself to find redemption, yet he doesn't get to be with the other Primes because we need a Lucifer allegory, so they make him pure evil and remove his spark from the Matrix. Liege Maximo gets away with everything by being allowed to stay, he should've been removed instead.
Make the basics of the aligned continuity!
I hope the next basics is about onyx prime
I remember reading that Alignment comic over a decade ago. The story was about why there was only Swoop who had survived into the Maximal era for the Beast Wars comics&tv series. Grimlock, Sludge, Snarl and Slag succeeded in their mission in stopping Liege Maximo but at the expense of their lives. Not sure if that comic is still on the web since it took me awhile to find it.
I've been meaning to ask this for a while, why do you not have a basics video on wreck gar or the junckions? Just curious.
Also great video, it helped explain the old G2 comic for me because I never really knew if that was official or fanart, glad I got that clarified.
