Don Figueroa notes that he only designed Nova's body; his head was designed by EJ Su! Figueroa took the head design and applied it to a pre-existing Optimus Prime design he'd come up with. Despite Don thinking otherwise, I consider that more than enough to be credited as co-creator (I always name the artist who designed a character alongside the writer who conceived them!) but I wanted to add this comment to be sure EJ gets his co-creator dues as well

Another note for the IDW version: Nova had planned on using the whole population of Cybertron as an army for his grand expansion, but he correctly predicted that the planet would eventually stop producing naturally-made ("forged") Sparks, so he had his science team use the Matrix to artificially generate them and put into storage until such a time that he'd need them. However, after Nova disappeared and the War started, these sparks were rediscovered and put into prefab bodies to create new soldiers, termed "constructed cold" Cybertronians. A lot of characters we know in the IDW1 universe inadvertently owe their existence to Nova!

Just wow! I'm grateful for your passion for Transformers, you've brought me to a whole universe I never ever believed it would exist without your work. Thanks, buddy.
It’s a shame that it’s almost close to none that we’ll ever get a sequel for Devastation due to Activision (now Activision Blizzard) being one of the most stingy game company there is. But at least this ain’t like a Circuit Breaker situation, and Nova’s legacy can still live on in the future for the Transformers.
One error. In Shattered Glass Unicron is chaotic good, not an agent of order. Shattered Glass Primus is evil, and wants bring order to the universe by destroying it.
I love how consistent his giant Galactus horns are across depictions. Not only is it a fun visual trait, it's such a simple-yet-effective way to change the vibe of an otherwise pretty standard "Prime" head into a sinister one.
Still mad they never made a Transformers Devastation 2... *NOVA PRIME WOULD'VE BEEN A FANTASTIC VILLAIN AND AN INSANE BOSS BATTLE!!!* 😱 But of course they didn't do it because Activision became lazy and failed to renew their contract with Hasbro. 😒
No, it was Hasbro who couldn't renew the contract because of the disappointment that was The Last Knight. But once Microsoft absorbs Activision-Blizzard, MAYBE Hasbro can negotiate to put the games back in the digital stores for Xbox and PC (and eventually the Switch).
I know the actual "cannon" story for Sentinel, Nova, and Zeta are all over the place in different versions of transformers but I've always liked to imagine them serving along side each other. Like they were the council during the golden age leading into the war, each corrupt in their own ways, each partially responsible for cybertrons downfall.
That shattered glass version of tranformers the movie sounds great, I must find that comic. Also, I love that White/Blue Nova Prime look at 7:29 ! Somehow he looks much better in the art than in the toy form shown in the video
I would love to see more basics on all the different primes I'm interested in learning more about Nexus prime or onyx prime or any of original in general the primes are just so cool
Can you please do a basics episode for Lugnut or Bluestreak at some point? They don’t really get much attention from the franchise as far as I can tell.
Bluestreak would be entertaining given the amount of people misremembering his colors and the irony of his alternate name being applied to his pre-Transformers colors
Just imagine how much better Dark Cybertron would have been with literally any artist beside Ramondelli. Kei Zama or Alex Milne doing art for that Optimus vs Nova fight would have been awesome.
I always forget what a crazy little micro-continuity Transformers Devastation is! So weird and fun the way it combines aspects of G1, IDW comics and even the Combiner Wars toyline! Always fun when you get those bizarre little one-offs
Prime Nova, ah such nostalgic Marvel UK Comics which is called back then. Like the original anime debut as Prima, Sentinel Prime and Zeta Prime were previous predecessors before Rodimus Convoy/Prime himself who owned Matrix of Leadership. IDW comics are sometimes complex throughout of Transformers lore.
Congrats on 200 videos. Imagine back in 1984 that we would still be exploring new/other characters besides the G1 originals in 2023!! Transformers....FOREVER!!
Shedding some light on the "Things I Like" section of my IDW1 Transformers Venn Diagram, it's Nova Prime! I've always enjoyed him as a villain; Probably my favorite incarnation of Nemesis Prime EVER. (I never was big on the "Evil Black Doppelganger/Evil Clone of Optimus", honestly. Though, I did enjoy the Prime TV show incarnation.) One idea I've always wanted to see, if they ever reuse him as Nemesis ever again in another Continuity, is that while he has his own skills and utility, (Like his big, hulking Wings.), he has the ability to copy the movesets of other Primes, new & old, and uses them as his own. (Kind of like a "Taskmaster of Primes" sort of thing.)
I do like the idea of Optimus Prime being the one true Prime who is the only good and not corrupt one, but part of me wishes that all Prime's were good and not corrupt.
Could you do a Basics for the following: (don't worry, I learned my lesson, I won't post this on every video) Cybertron- The world of the transformers Outliers: Transformers with unique abilities and superpowers. Multiverse/Universal Streams: Multiverses are popular these days Nebulos- The planet of “masters” Rescue Bots: Roll to the rescue! Technobots and Monstructor: just to finish the combiner teams
Awesome video and Nova Prime one of the few characters in Transformers I don’t really know about and I never had the video game that came out but I wish we gotten a sequel to it.
I prefer the version in Devastation... All this "actually the Autobots were the evil and corrupt ones" revisionism is a bit too hip and edgy for me. Nova being a noble character corrupted by Unicron fits the classic story much better.
If I were to make a TF show I’d have Nova in it have him be driven insane by either the dead universe or Unicron and have him speak in a glitched out kinda like Spamton from Deltarune
Love Nova's design, hopefully one day Hasbro will make a official figure of Nova. Also yes, we where robbed of a epic showdown between Nova and Optimus in TF:Devastation, I still to this day wonder what might of been.
Hasbro just revealed a Nova Prime figure yesterday 👀 happy to see him get a new figure finally, and I agree, I would have loved to see Optimus and Nova fight in the sequel for Devastation.
I find it really funny that I didn't even know Nova Prime was a canon character in Transformers lore, yet I just randomly searched up Nova Prime because I was thinking "That name is way too good not to be an actual character." Now I'm at this video learning about Nova Prime.
In my school vr game Nova prime is the 10th member of the counsel of darkness and has the most unique boss fight as Goalius you need to team up with autobot grimlock and hotshot to fight bruticus possessed by him and to do damage there's 2 ways 1 is by using hotshot to tie up bruticus legs and have grimlock tackle him into Goalius torture attack but way number 2 is most memorable as you need to link your targeting system to bruticus own cannons and fire them on himself this knocks nova prime into a torture attack of Goalius who beheads him with grimlock sword
First he talks Deathsaurus, only for Deathsaurus to arrive. Then he talks Dion, and so he returns. Now he talks Nova Prime, and as announced at the San-Diego comic con... How do you keep doing this, Chris? Are you Psychic? Do you work for Hasbro? (And if a Chris McFeely video means you're getting a new toy, could you possibly say a few words about Axer 😄?)
I actually really like Devastation’s take on the character where he Was A genuine Prime long ago, an explorer who DID value life, until he was corrupted by some unseen (highly implied to be Unicron) force. “Nova Prime did come here to Cyberform Earth, but only after an encounter with some dark force… bent not just on destruction… but OUR destruction.” I dunno, I find a former good hearted Star Trekkian explorer type warped by evil is a lot more interesting than a flatly evil character who’s design is the only thing keeping him from blending in with the other one dimensional corrupt Primes that IDW writers seem to think are some kind of inherently deep story aspect when it’s just a line of assholes who are assholes because Optimus Prime has to be the only good one because these comics were written around the same time as the Aligned continuity kicking off and deifying Optimus was all the rage
If I recall correctly, Nominus in IDW1 really wasn't EVIL, more so he was just a dude who was, not only kind of pathetic, but had SO much sh*t stacked up against him. I'll be honest, I kind of miss when it wasn't JUST The Primes who got the Matrix/were Leaders. (Like, remember when Star Saber and Atlus were Leaders of the Autobots? Or am I misremembering things?) Kind of feel like "Prime" should go back to a rank, and those with the Matrix should be the Leader of the Autobots, and get to "Live on" inside the thing. Call them "Matrix Bearers" or, something. Not restricted to The Primes. (I like that name. Thought of it myself~)
@@Da_ComputerMonster I don’t think keeping Primes around as what they are prevents other Autobot commanders from taking the center stage, which I would also love to see as a big fan of Star Saber and Dai Atlas, as well as characters like Fort Max and Optimus Primal. Just refine the Autobot hierarchy to include other top brass besides Optimus leading teams across the Galaxy, similar to Star Trek captains, and boom! Plenty of groups of characters under their headlining commanders to work with And yeah, Nominus is a lot more interesting than the usual modern take on a previous Prime
I also prefer Devastation's take on him. When he first showed up in IDW1, the idea of false/corrupted Primes was still a very new concept (I think Dreamwave Fallen was the only other example?), but he became a much less effective villain after Phase 1 when pretty much every other Prime besides Optimus was either corrupt like him (like Sentinel or Zeta) or was insignificant (Prima, Solus, Micronus, Nominus, etc). Although to be fair to IDW1, one of the main themes surrounding the later phases was that Primes were a false title taken up by despots to gain more power.
7:24 Nova Prime was created as both part of the origin of Nemesis Prime who in turn is an evil version of Optimus Prime and as an evil deconstruction of Primes. In _Shattered Glass_ evil Optimus becomes good Nova. Not quite sure why but _Transformers_ are unrivaled in how its concepts can be mixed and matched and put back together the opposite ways around.

I'm gonna include some historical footnotes about Nova Prime and other non-divine Primes in my fanfiction. I've already got Nominus, Sentinel, and Zeta Prime lined up, and maybe I'll make a few more.
Pretty sweet little backstory for Nova Prime! I never thought I'd be so captivated by his lore and other iterations! Thank you!🎉
WE FINALLY GOT AN EPISODE ON MY FAVOURITE PRIME! Thank you so much Chris.
Still mad they never made a Transformers Devastation 2...
*NOVA PRIME WOULD'VE BEEN A FANTASTIC VILLAIN AND AN INSANE BOSS BATTLE!!!* 😱
But of course they didn't do it because Activision became lazy and failed to renew their contract with Hasbro.
Do THE BASICS on AIRAZOR next, Chris!
Power doesn't corrupt, it reveals.
I know the actual "cannon" story for Sentinel, Nova, and Zeta are all over the place in different versions of transformers but I've always liked to imagine them serving along side each other. Like they were the council during the golden age leading into the war, each corrupt in their own ways, each partially responsible for cybertrons downfall.
except that they take some inspiration from devastation where nova prime used to be benevolent ruler and all around great bot... for a time.
That shattered glass version of tranformers the movie sounds great, I must find that comic. Also, I love that White/Blue Nova Prime look at 7:29 ! Somehow he looks much better in the art than in the toy form shown in the video
8:08 Only a Prime deals in absolutes.
I would love to see more basics on all the different primes I'm interested in learning more about Nexus prime or onyx prime or any of original in general the primes are just so cool
Can't wait to have you explore and talk about the rest of the Thirteen Primes in the near future!!
Devastation is one of the most underrated sleeper Transformer games ever
Can you please do a basics episode for Lugnut or Bluestreak at some point? They don’t really get much attention from the franchise as far as I can tell.
Bluestreak would be entertaining given the amount of people misremembering his colors and the irony of his alternate name being applied to his pre-Transformers colors
5:36.
Reminds of of G1S3 episode 'The burden hardest to bear'
Just imagine how much better Dark Cybertron would have been with literally any artist beside Ramondelli.
Kei Zama or Alex Milne doing art for that Optimus vs Nova fight would have been awesome.
Is Ramondelli the one who makes everything look like concrete?
@@mechanwhal6590 yes.
OMG it finally happened! Nova Prime is one of my favorite characters and to finally see this blows me away. Thank you so much!
"Listen to reason! Orion, please!"
"My name is OPTIMUS PRIME!"
Such a good moment.
I want a Transformers Devastation to get a sequel with Nova Prime as the main antagonist.
I've always enjoyed him as a villain;
Probably my favorite incarnation of Nemesis Prime EVER. (I never was big on the "Evil Black Doppelganger/Evil Clone of Optimus", honestly. Though, I did enjoy the Prime TV show incarnation.)
One idea I've always wanted to see, if they ever reuse him as Nemesis ever again in another Continuity, is that while he has his own skills and utility, (Like his big, hulking Wings.), he has the ability to copy the movesets of other Primes, new & old, and uses them as his own. (Kind of like a "Taskmaster of Primes" sort of thing.)
The thumbnail is utterly beautiful! :D
Great Episode. Never knew much about Nova Prime.
I do like the idea of Optimus Prime being the one true Prime who is the only good and not corrupt one, but part of me wishes that all Prime's were good and not corrupt.
not all of them are corrupt.
I would like to see a story where Nova Prime vs Sentinel Prime.
yes please!
dude nova is one of my fav characters in transformers thanks for doing this chris😻
I’ve been waiting for an amazing cover on this guy!
Thank you for the amazing work you do for the Transformers community!
Could you do a Basics for the following: (don't worry, I learned my lesson, I won't post this on every video)
Cybertron- The world of the transformers
Outliers: Transformers with unique abilities and superpowers.
Multiverse/Universal Streams: Multiverses are popular these days
Nebulos- The planet of “masters”
Rescue Bots: Roll to the rescue!
Technobots and Monstructor: just to finish the combiner teams
transtech
Awesome video and Nova Prime one of the few characters in Transformers I don’t really know about and I never had the video game that came out but I wish we gotten a sequel to it.
Another amazing video
Yay, A Video On My Birthday
3:43 he just turned into a Kirby final boss
I prefer the version in Devastation... All this "actually the Autobots were the evil and corrupt ones" revisionism is a bit too hip and edgy for me. Nova being a noble character corrupted by Unicron fits the classic story much better.
ive always loved Nova Prime. im really hoping they bring him back in some series
If I were to make a TF show I’d have Nova in it have him be driven insane by either the dead universe or Unicron and have him speak in a glitched out kinda like Spamton from Deltarune
One of the coolest IDW designs but man was his character a let down.
I would love if Platinum makes a sequel to Transformers Devastation, with Nova Prime being the main antagonist of the sequel + Prime vs. Prime
Maybe, but who would publish it?
Love Nova's design, hopefully one day Hasbro will make a official figure of Nova. Also yes, we where robbed of a epic showdown between Nova and Optimus in TF:Devastation, I still to this day wonder what might of been.
Hasbro just revealed a Nova Prime figure yesterday 👀 happy to see him get a new figure finally, and I agree, I would have loved to see Optimus and Nova fight in the sequel for Devastation.
Really hope this guy gets more media exposure in other transformers things
Been waiting on this one!!! Need more Nova Prime!!!
I find it really funny that I didn't even know Nova Prime was a canon character in Transformers lore, yet I just randomly searched up Nova Prime because I was thinking "That name is way too good not to be an actual character." Now I'm at this video learning about Nova Prime.
I hope Nova Prime gets a new toy in Transformers Legacy.
Please do a basics on tarantulas? He is my favorite beast wars character.
I'm still holding out for a sequel for transformers devastation that is one of the best games on the ps3.
Please, make a basics on Kup.
I'm Glad that your Covering All the Primes ^^
In my school vr game Nova prime is the 10th member of the counsel of darkness and has the most unique boss fight as Goalius you need to team up with autobot grimlock and hotshot to fight bruticus possessed by him and to do damage there's 2 ways 1 is by using hotshot to tie up bruticus legs and have grimlock tackle him into Goalius torture attack but way number 2 is most memorable as you need to link your targeting system to bruticus own cannons and fire them on himself this knocks nova prime into a torture attack of Goalius who beheads him with grimlock sword
Man can I have just one day where there isn't an evil Prime
Another fantastic show. Nova is a one off evil in my random beads canon
Love the name obviously lol and the IDW design is 👌
here's your checkpoint for those of you coming from SDCC's Nova Prime reveal
Thank you for all your great videos!
I am a Japanese who is watching while translating.
please add English subtitles.
Sorry about that, I forgot to activate them! They are available now.
@@ChrisMcFeely Thank you so much!
@@ChrisMcFeelyCool video, BASICS ON NEMESIS PRIME next please
I actually really like Devastation’s take on the character where he Was A genuine Prime long ago, an explorer who DID value life, until he was corrupted by some unseen (highly implied to be Unicron) force.
“Nova Prime did come here to Cyberform Earth, but only after an encounter with some dark force… bent not just on destruction… but OUR destruction.”
I dunno, I find a former good hearted Star Trekkian explorer type warped by evil is a lot more interesting than a flatly evil character who’s design is the only thing keeping him from blending in with the other one dimensional corrupt Primes that IDW writers seem to think are some kind of inherently deep story aspect when it’s just a line of assholes who are assholes because Optimus Prime has to be the only good one because these comics were written around the same time as the Aligned continuity kicking off and deifying Optimus was all the rage
Agree, it made no sense to make all Primes minus Optimus assholes.
Or am I misremembering things?)
Kind of feel like "Prime" should go back to a rank, and those with the Matrix should be the Leader of the Autobots, and get to "Live on" inside the thing.
Plenty of groups of characters under their headlining commanders to work with
And yeah, Nominus is a lot more interesting than the usual modern take on a previous Prime
@@Cdr2002 …You got some cool ideas, Mister Goji with Shades.
They are, how you say, _Cash Money~_
I also prefer Devastation's take on him. When he first showed up in IDW1, the idea of false/corrupted Primes was still a very new concept (I think Dreamwave Fallen was the only other example?), but he became a much less effective villain after Phase 1 when pretty much every other Prime besides Optimus was either corrupt like him (like Sentinel or Zeta) or was insignificant (Prima, Solus, Micronus, Nominus, etc). Although to be fair to IDW1, one of the main themes surrounding the later phases was that Primes were a false title taken up by despots to gain more power.
Transformers Devastation mention GRAHHHH
Didn’t know the devastation storyline or the shattered glass one. Always glad to learn something new about transformers.
Who is excited for nova prime’s new legacy figure
Nova Prime had a great Quote (At least i thinke he did) about power Corruption .
Nova Prime: "They say Power Corrupts. What's so Wrong With That"
I think that was from a piece of fan art.
This was a very good lore I like it
Fantastic story of Nova Prime!👍👍👍👍👍😃
Thanks!👍
MORE FIGURES PLEASE!!!!! 😢
Would be cool to get a Nova Prime in the Transformers Legacy line, a future line or as a Haslab would be good too.
Just send Nova Prime in Earthspark!
If Transformers Devastation got a Sequel(Which it still needs to cause it's Long Overdue) then we could've seen Nova Prime as the Main Antagonist.
I like the thought of Nova Prime as an upgraded Optimus in a way that it mirrors Megatron and Galvatron
