Just wondering how many of you who heard this got a lump in your throat and tears in yours eyes? I sure did. He sounds as young as when he appeared on the Andy Griffith Show and sang this beautiful song.
No one sings Long Lonesome Road like Jack Prince. His episodes on The Andy Griffith show as Rafe Hollister were the best. RIP Jack. Thank you for your amazing voice. And sharing it with us. God bless you.
How prophetic this song is as a description of the Christian life, living life for Jesus, especially since Jack performs it with such heartfelt feeling, emotion, passion, it is as if Jack is singing right to you, for you, and is singing your song of your life as you travel down Life's Highway. As long as you have a tender heart with compassion, love in your heart, this song will continue to speak to you and for you, like a prayer to God for all the days of your life. R.I.P. Jack Prince, for now you sing in Heaven's Choir for The Prince of Peace, the King of Kings, Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ.
I had the pleasure of knowing Jack in his later years when he kept busy in the security industry in Las Vegas. He was stoked about doing this special and could still sing... but I knew this having seen him sing unaccompanied for a lady in the office on her birthday. Truly a nice man.
Liberals get ready to fill out your reports on me, cause I'm going to vent here. Frankly I expect some "unfriending" to happen and that is fine too. I believe we all have the right to worship as we please, but I also know that our country, the United States of America, was founded on Christian principles. I believe we should be proud of our country. A quote is a quote. It should not be amended or watered down. The news media organizations should not be afraid to use the "Love of Christ" part. Why they state, “Because, using the words Christ or God might offend someone!” Well, now it's my turn to be offended! I'm offended that the news media would edit it out. Offended that Christians are being asked to tread lightly, so as not to offend someone of another religion. @Joe Casson I grew up with my home away from home being a small town like Mayberry. Bath, NC. My grandparents lived right on Main Street. Yes, people knew a lot about other people, but that's what happens in a close knit community. Sure there were gossips, and nosy neighbors, people with poor personalities, and, yes, racists, but that's the case everywhere you go. I don't care if you are in Frogmore, SC or Los Angeles, CA. In Bath, every evening we'd sit on the front porch and random passersby would stop and join in on the conversation. Maybe grab a cup of coffee and hang out. It may have been the principal of the high school (white) or Jimmy the black man that mowed lawns. It didn't matter. Everyone was welcome and it was that way with most every front porch in town. I'm glad I grew up in a small town and I'm a better person for it. It was never as you put it "Shitty" or "Racist". I'm sorry you feel the way you do. You sound like an angry person and someone who has a lot to hide🤔
I saw the old Andy Griffith rerun last night when he did this song. Lovely voice. There were a lot of talented people on that show, like JIm Nabors, this guy, and even Andy Griffith himself.
Hal Smith wasn't only, as he mentions in the interview with Ralph here, the voice of Barney Rubble and Dino on the Flinstones, he also voiced the owl character on Winnie The Poo, and his most iconic character, perhaps (outside of Otis Campbell on the Andy Griffith show), was that of the claymation dog, Goliath, on "Davey and Goliath," which aired around the world for many years. Jack Prince not only appeared on Broadway and as a Big Band vocalist, he appeared on a number of recordings as a background and primary male vocalist with and without credit. These were two very talented men, heaven must be a lot more entertaining since their arrival just a months apart.
arspraestigium1 iconic as Davey and Goliath? I'm sure most people would disagree. I think his most iconic role outside of the Andy Griffith Show is Mr Whittaker on Adventures in Odyssey. More people have heard of Adventures in Odyssey than Davey and Goliath, especially since AIO is still going strong and Davey and Goliath isn't. And people who grew up with him as Mr Whittaker have a lot of respect for him and regard him as the "real Mr Whittaker".
Jack Prince was an AMAZING singer. He had a warmth with his delivery that was unique. Loved his Andy Griffith character so much, I named one of my children after that character.
When I heard "Rafe Hollister" sing this song on The Andy Griffith Show, and the way Andy played the guitar...my heart! Just so, so beautiful. He still sounded great here. This song and "There Is A Time" by The Darlings, are my two all-time favorites of all the songs performed on The Andy Griffith Show. I'm so glad I was raised watching this show with my Mom. Andy Griffith was such a good, God-fearing man.
It really touches our hearts. Time and age can't remove the sweet eternal goodness contained here. A goodness we all look forward to being part of one day.
Two great actors from the Andy Griffith Show. Interestingly they both passed away in the sane month only few years after this. (Both died in January 1994)
Actually, when the emcee asked Jack about the the episode with Barney & the dead microphone & he responded that Andy had requested he go to the tryouts with Barney, Jack inadvertently was talking about another episode which was #83 "Rafe Hollister Sings" The episode with the dead mic is #52 "Barney and the Choir" which Jack was not in. Thanks for posting, as I had never saw this one before. It was great to see Jack & Hal together again.
@@justachristiansoldier9609 you're so right! Anyone will loose some of their voice as they age...some loose most of their singing voice. But Mr Prince STILL sounded great even though he was in his 70's. Beautiful voice!!
What I love about seasoned singers like Jack is as the age & don't have as much wind that they had 30 years earlier, they do know how to compensate and keep it just as beautiful... 👏🙏💜
He does have a great voice. I watched that episode just last night. Hate the snooty people hosting the show but they were shown a thing or two. This is one of my fave episodes all due to this man's voice. Nice!
This makes me so sad. Almost everyone I have ever loved is gone. And when you realize that there are a lot less days in front of the horse than in back of the cart.
I was not familiar with Jack Prince until I heard him singing on the Andy Griffith Show a couple of years ago. I was impressed and he really touched me. Had to look him up. What a voice!
My Aunt was telling me about this because she was friends with someone there and she was telling me about the host being one of my grand dad's good friends. I was shocked because I absolutely love Andy Griffith! I live in Tennessee and I got to meet goober in Gatlinburg. I love him. Sweet guy!!
I along with a number of friends and family we’re blessed to see him at one of the very last Andy Griffith Mayberry reunions in the early 90’s. He sang the same song and was dressed in the same manner. The Darlings (Dillards) E T Bass along with so many others. An event I shall never ever forget 😊
What a great pair. I watch Andy Griffith every night on my cd collection while lying in bed. I love going back to Mayberry I wish the set was still up.
9 years ago lol and you still get a like. I watch A.G every night including tonight :) Barney gave Andy and Mayberry more problems than any of the crooks. I have his name in my email.
What a voice! Just a few short years before he passed, too. Rest in peace, Mr. Prince and Mr. Smith... May you both be looking down on us all from where you are at.
Almost exactly 30 yrs since he sang with Andy, and his voice still beautiful! But to see them both as little old men made me sad. Also made me realize that Otis and Rafe were both older in Andy Griffith than I thought they were. At least 10 yrs older. Because 30 yrs is a long time, but it also isn’t. When someone dies at 30, we are certainly not saying they lived a nice full life. We are saying they were way too young. See?
I was just flipping the stations and started watching Andy Griffith big fan for years. Ralph Hollister episode the best that man can sing. What a beautiful voice Jack Prince he had.. The first time I heard him sing on the Andy Griffith show, I couldn't believe it.
I'm a huge Andy Griffith Show fan...He did this same song on that show with Andy on guitar...WHAT A VOICE!!-
So Otis wennt off the wagon. Not surprised
