Foxbody Surging Idle When Warm: It’s fixed!!

- 9 months after this issue first started, I’ve found the cause.
A lot of time, frustration and money are gone but I’ve finally got a reliable running car again.
Ultimately, it was the computer but not the capacitors. It has a bad ROM chip that can’t be replaced. A different computer fixed the issue.
What did I test or replace that didn’t fix it?:
Base Idle Reset
Pull engine codes
IAC
TFI
Grounds
Distributor
Fuel pump
Fuel pressure regulator
Throttle body
Coil
Fuel injectors
EEC relay
Fuel relay
Fuel injector harness
Mass Air Meter
Spark Plugs
Salt n Pepper Shakers
I’m sure I’m forgetting a few things #foxbody #foxbodymustang #mustang
Glad you fixed this wow! I had a surging / bucking issue for months turned out to be a pinhole vacuum line leak under my Upper intake. This after changing many parts as well. Thanks to my Foxbody guru Mechanic who works on these everyday LOL
Love all the videos. You have a beautiful car & have the patients it takes to own this beauty. Glad to see you finally won the battle . I have a 01 Mustang Gt Convertible. God bless you & enjoy your passion 🙏
Thank you for watching. It’s been a fun project but it’s had its challenges🤣.
I'm so happy you fixed it!!!!
You my man have the patience of a saint:)
I’m in the same boat right now! I’m hoping the computer fixes the issue! I threw a lot of the go to parts at it and nothing and tested and made more replacements and nothing so it’s a last ditch effort for me! But I’m glad yours worked out for you bro!!
I hope it works out for you. It’s just my luck to have a computer with new caps installed already and have something go bad that can’t be replaced.
I'm so excited but i haven't watch it... but i followed all the way here. I'm ready to check it out
Thanks for watching. This was very frustrating, expensive and took a long time to figure out. I’m glad it’s finally over and I can enjoy the car again.
@@thefoxlife3431 yes...i did almost exact same things that you did, i just bought a new complete accel distributor, had msd before, installed did the sam thing like yours. I'm taking back tomorrow to refund my money. So i can take my computer box out. I enjoyed all the details on the videos. Thank you..and have a good weekend
@9011combo Awesome, thanks for the feedback and good luck with your trouble shooting.
Glad you got it all sorted! I’ve been checking back to see if you solved it.
It truly helps starting it up and sitting in it every once and a while for motivation!
Love the car and the channel!
Yeah, it was a big moral boost for sure.
Awesome that its fixed. Think i finally got mine fixed as well.
I saw your video on the battery drain. Glad to see you found your culprit.
🤘😎🤘Good for you brother. Now a nitrous kit! Mine was the fuel pump relay that did that to me
@600wheel ,,, new issue , ,,, had 40 pounds at rail , now zero , pump running , filter new , is it possible that a regulator is causing this ,,, ?
Vacuum regulator not leaking fuel ,,, ?
,,, I should say , fuel pours out at filter disconnect , going to make an adapter to check pressure there ,,, !
@@rolandtamaccio3285 are you sure the gauge you’re using is working? secondly pumps can run but the impeller inside can be broken so your idea of checking fuel pressure as close to that pump as possible without dropping the tank is a good idea but before you do that pinch off the return hose after the regulator and see if that increases pressure (after making sure the gauge is working) if you don’t get an increase of pressure immediately after pinching off the return line there’s something wrong with your pump if you get an increase of pressure there is something wrong with your regulator. Don’t pinch it off too long bad things will happen. You don’t wanna let it climb above 60 psi with an old stock system….don’t ask🤣 you should not have to pinch the line all the way shut in order to get an increase of pressure, just restricting flow will increase the pressure. If before you do any of this you’re able to start the car I would bet your gauge is what the problem is because without pressure the car won’t run. Please remember everything I tell you I’m doing while not being able to see your car. I’m going to assume you have checked for a massive fuel leak underneath the car and that your fuel tank is full. If you have a cheap filter on it the filter could have collapsed inside of itself and also be blocking off fuel your fuel line could also be plugged somewhere before the gauge which could be caused by a lot of things in a tank that old so everything I’m telling you is assuming you have checked these things. I’m assuming the car is starting because you’re able to get the pump to continue to run for you to test pressure, if you’re just turning the key on the pump will pressure up (run only for a few seconds) and then stop and bleed off until you start the car and once the car is running the fuel pump will stay on but when you first turn the key on it just gives the system a baseline of pressure and assumes you’re going to start the car soon after. If you suspect your fuel line is plugged and you have a compressor you can disconnect the fuel line from the fuel rail and disconnect it from the output of the filter and blow air backwards through it that will usually clear a clog. If that turns out to be the problem you have to clean your entire fuel system. Hope this helps
@@600wheel,,, I hot wired the pump , zero pressure , the car won't start , runs amazingly well on starting spray , the gauge seems to be good , sooooo , other than the vacuum modulated regulator , where is the one that holds 40 pounds ,,, ? ,,, fuel Pours out of the disconnected filter ,,, !
Gotta wonder if the computer was damaged by foxresto. Hope you got a deal on the second one you bought. Great videos!
It’s hard to say what happened. It did work just fine for about 2 months after the original work they did. I can’t be too upset since the computer is 37 years old. Hopefully the new/old one last a while. I probably should have bust spent the extra to add a Terminator X. 🤞
I'm in running into the same problem with the surging !! Replaced alot of parts and turned the idle up some kinda stopped the surging but i don't think that solved all of my problem
I’m back to having some issues again. Now I’m not convinced it was the computer. 🤷♂️ it’s very frustrating.
I have a 1995GT Mustang 331stroker,,my car starts, after running 20 minutes, I turn it off,,and as soon as I turn my key to start, it drags to start
Check out the video i made from his video 😂. Now I'm here watching your video because mine is cranking and not starting 🤦♂️
Crank-no-start issues can be really hard to diagnose. I’ve got several videos that go through a lot of my trial and error. Good luck with the build. I just subscribed to your channel to keep up with your project.
@@thefoxlife3431 thanks man! It's so frustrating everything is back together and I just want to drive it and now it won't start. I have another issue. Even with the key off when I hit the brake pedal the dash lights up and the door chim sounds.
I’m going through something similar with my 89’ coupe. I sent the ECU to ECU EXCHANGE to get rebuilt, and it did solve my initial problem, but after 400 miles, another very intermitten problem began. I switched to a loaner ECU and so far have not had the new problem. So I sent the ECU back to ECU EXCHANGE and I’m hoping they find something besides the usual Capacitors and power supply problems.
I’ve been stranded 3 times because of stock ECU BS….
I have had mine to ECU Exchange twice. The issue was resolved for 100 miles or so, then the intermittent dying came back and last week it did not start. So back to the drawing board. It really seems to be an electrical short issue, and that is never fun.
@dancrookham7098 I’ve had an intermittent “dying when running” issue in the past and it turned out to be the PIP sensor in the Distributor. Unfortunately it can be a lot of things. StangNet has some good articles on troubleshooting also.
