I just wanted to thank you for these excellent and well-made videos. I had only ever seen one of your videos like two years ago but today I rediscovered your channel and it's amazing. You're a really good teacher. Thanks again :)
For anyone who might happen to be using Seperation Studio 4 for screen printing with Inkscape, it really prefers PDFs over inkscape files to import into SS4 to seperate and print positives. There are 2 sides to SS4, you'll notice when you open a PDF a different process takes place. Most importantly, if you create in Inkscape and then save as PDF and choose to convert text to paths it will import text without wierd misplaced backgrounds that you'll only see in SS4. I'm learning all this as I go, contact me with questions. I give Inkscape 10/10 and SS4 another 10/10. And Nick, thanks pal, you've literally walked me thru all of this, you have a vid for every issue I've encountered, what a great person who does something like this just to help people. Kudos

The EXPORT window that Nick is talking about will appear in your toolbar windows. If you have your workspace arranged as I do with your layers/text & Font/Fill & Stroke etc. to the right side, then look there once you have hit the "Export PNG Image" (under File menu)... Alternatively, there's a button in the toolbar above your creative space.
Hi Nick, Thanks for taking the time to record this video, and all the others, I think they’re great. I thought I’d let you know what Optimised SVG is, when you save using this option and then open the file in a text editor like notepad, a lot of code has been removed, makes it much easy when creating image maps for websites.
Thank you for your videos, I have a question please; when I export my drawing which contains gradient transparencies to an EPS file and try to open it again it becomes a raster image ?? what is the solution please?
I do not know why I can not get the page tab to remain engaged when I try to export PNG. Everytime I select it, the system automatically switches back to the drawing or custom tab, even though nothing is highlighted. Happy for an explanation and suggestions. I do not know if it deals with coordinates for instance but do not understand how to do the coordinates either.
sorry if this is the wrong place to ask: I made 3 projects in inkscape(guitar pedal decals) how do I put these on one page to print and not waster decal paper?

Thank you so much for that illustration. I am trying to save my object as PNG/bitmap but when I open it in photoshop it opens with a white background. What am I doing wrong?
Wow! Thank you so much for sharing this info & explaining it so well. I've always been intimidated to learn AI & Corel Draw. I used the older Pagemaker & Adobe PS & wasn't really used to anything with points, paths, curves etc. I have a new Scanncut DX & it was recommended to learn Inkscape to convert files & make images & text to SVG files easier for cutting. Inkscape has a lot more options & tools than the scanncut software. I'm so glad I found you! Thank you!
How does one 'save as...' export a 'transparent background' "image" to a .pdf? If that makes sense? Eg. I have a logo with a white trace. Printer wants the file in 300dpi .pdf in the precise size we want it printed at. When I 'save as...' .pdf the .pdf image comes out with a white rectangle background (instead of just a white traced logo itself). Thanks in advance.
DPI = dots per inch ... usually resolution of printers (is for ink printers - how many droplets of ink will be in one inch), also wrongly named resolution of displays, but that's PPI PPI = pixels per inch ... resolution of display (how many pixels will be in one inch) the reason why print shops requires bigger resolutions is that printers (ie 1200dpi) have much bigger resolution than displays (ie 96ppi). The resolution depends on device, not on picture so some displays can have resolution 98dpi, other 94, retina displays 200-400ppi, ...
What if the graphic I am using was not created with Inkscape, but imported as a .png I imported with a transparent background, but now am getting a white background when exported as .svg I am brand new to all this so...
Aloha Nick! Just wondering what your thoughts were on canvas size and dpi. Iʻm using Inkscape for Merch by Amazon. They req a doc size of 4500 px X 5400 px with 300 dpi. Hey Johan, you're right, there's no way to output a file directly to CMYK in Inkscape yet. Whether or not it'll work for print will depend on the print shop you use. I've actually printed RGB documents before and Vistaprint, for example, does a great job of converting the colors. I could hardly tell it was printed from a RGB document. Most large online print shops will do the color conversion for you. Using a CMYK document is still ideal, but it can work with RGB.
