I feel like the trick is making it look like you feel like you're in regular clothes, not a costume. Some vintage wearers look totlaly natural; others sort of seem to walk around like they want you to notice that they're 'dressed up' in period garments. (Though TBH I wonder sometimes what it'd be like to run into someone like Bernadette Banner in the mall or something - she wears her period pieces really really well and naturally, but some of them are fairly elaborate so it'd be interesting to encounter them in real life.)
What era clothes would you recommend for a hijab wearing woman? I wear a hijab and LOVE vintage clothes but don't know how best to incorporate it with the headscarf 😅
@@ShammaAzmi In that case, I would recommend the late 40s/early 50s! Scarves were popular headwear, same with turbans. They were an inexpensive and beautiful way to look elegant during war and rations, or keep hair up for factory work. The era embraces all styles from gowns to pants as women were heading out into the world and becoming a force of their own. Best wishes on your vintage journey!!!❤️
@@ShammaAzmi you could also look into the 1930s if you wear dresses, because those are usually long (around ankle or calf length length but you could wear long socks if you find a style that is too short for you)
@@ShammaAzmi I'd reccomend the 1930s-1940s Headscarves were popular in the 1940s so you can easily find inspiration, they were used to protect women's hairdos or when they weren't able to style their hair that day or even in winter when they were cold And the 1930s dresss were relatively long (mid calf to ankle length) and rather loose fitting, 1940s and 1950s were more fitted at the top so it just depends on your personal preference for modesty If you like the look the 1920s were inredibly loose fitting with long skirts And you can always add long sleeves to any garment, and all the necklines in all these eras were often higher as well so you won't struggle with finding inspo for that either I hope this helps!
Are you kidding, Rena? OF COURSE your outfits would ALWAYS be appropriate for work at the office!! You would be a refreshing sight, considering how "casual" everyone else is dressed nowadays. Your look is incredibly elegant!
I wore vintage 40s & 50s clothes to my office job in the 80s & 90s - I worked as an office assistant & a public affairs editor for the DoD then 🥰🥰. I did make some skirts & suits from my old 60s & 70s patterns, in the 90s 🤗 I make costumes, have done for decades 🤗. Lots of them are historical. I also have been making 50s retro outfits for my dolls (BJDs) ❤
I remember having to wear skirts with pantyhose and heels or a pant suit to work, your outfit is absolutely perfect for today’s environment. It brings back a lot of class and elegance to the work place. Beautiful!!
I wish the trend would go back to dressing for work, dinner, dates. You always look wonderful and I would definitely wear that to work. It's very professional.
A friend who works reception in a MetLife office got into the '50s pin-up look a few years ago. Her employers take her style in stride and apparently didn't bat an eye even when she did a two-tone hair look that's light on one side and dark on the other. If someone had asked me to name a business that would be less likely to go along with this kind of thing, insurance would have been near the top.
Honestly, I wish everyone dressed vintage like this to go to work again. It’s like back then people took pride in their appearance and it looks just so clean and put together. You look amazing!
I hope if you start working in an office again someday you wear your vintage clothes. It would bring a smile to my face if I were your coworker and give the office some more life and creativity :) never let anyone crush your creative spirit!!!! :)
I think it is work appropriate. I love vintage fashion but I have to make it work appropriate which means I can't wear sandals or too tight skirts or dresses because I have to lift heavy things sometimes and I need to be able to move a lot. That's why I wear knee long, flattery skirts and dresses. It's appropriate, pretty and I can still do my job well and safe
First you are GORGEOUS this outfit is you hey its got yellow. The style looks so perfect for work depends on what work too. Shes well put together ands most likely the boss lady. That dress would be a hit now
Of course it’s work appropriate! You look fabulous and everyone would be so excited to see you everyday and a different outfit! Love it as always! I so admire you!
I love it - so fresh and simple. Fits you perfectly. The only change I would make is perhaps paring down the length of the bow at the neck. The yellow briefcase is a perfect match and great score.
To some of us (at least!) you have made of your presence a work of art. How lovely it would be if I worked in an otherwise-monotonous office to have an always -changing point of visual interest, even excitement! Beautiful.
Yes! I would absolutely wear that to work! Otherwise, I'm not sure what you mean by "vintage work". Awesome, another great video, thank you for continuing to inspire us.
Vintage will always be appropriate I can't say that about modern day styles there's a lady at my bank that dresses vintage and I just love seeing her each time I go in there 😊😊😊
I absolutely love your vintage Style. Just curious, when you did work in an office did you wear vintage clothes? I love them and if I work in an office I would have to start making some of these!
@@SewRena you make amazing clothes. I can sew a little but not well enough to make some of the beautiful pieces that you make. I also like your vintage appliances and sewing machines. My stepfather always said that I was very retro.
Such a beautiful dress, I am a beginner sewer and hope I can graduate one day to something so professional looking. Looks amazing on you, I would love to see you at work, it always makes me happy to see women being their beautiful selves, owning the world, and making it look effortless.
It looks so lovely Of course vintage is appropriate anywhere If it were in my size, eyc, I would wear it to my non messy work, but, for messy, I would need something stainable/messy-friendly (or, just knowing it could be the messy dress)😀
How could vintage NOT be work appropriate?? Its so elegant
I get compliments for wearing vintage at work
💕💕 I think vintage is perfect for work
Same, i work retail and still wear vintage. I get lots of compliments and kids think i am a princess.

Excellent for work!❤
I wear vintage everyday to work. I am a school secretary, and the cut of vintage (I prefer 60s) is always modest and appropriate in any setting.

Your outfits, your figure, your style...PERFECTION!
Not only is it appropriate but also very elegant.
I can only imagine how much better we’d all be if we took the time to look this good going to work.
You look so beautiful in the vintage style. I love seeing dresses with sleeves and slips are so important under dresses!
You look beautifully appropriate for anything. Don't stop doing what you do.
