    John, the scenery looks awesome! I like how you have built mock ups for your structures to test the size and composition. The patched grade crossing is really cool. Having a dedicated switcher for the transload facility will give you another job for the ops session and would be very realistic that a facility of that size.-Tom

      Thanks Tom! I figured the dedicated switcher is a great excuse for a RCO SW1000 with all of that fancy equipment in the roof lol looking forward to the next visit!

    Good evening sir. You may have been away for a while but you haven't missed a beat with your modeling skills. It's not easy to see where your backdrop ands and your scenery begins, I'm loving it. Can't wait for your next update. Thanks you. Also thanks for that product information, I've been looking for something like that in N scale.

    Very well done.
    Everything is perfect.
    The mock up idea is i think a must.
    A suggestion. With wide open scope with Google Earth and street view, it´s easy to print a building that you like. Even if there is distortions in vertical lines, the print glued to cardboard, a cereal box or whatever, will give you a visual effect if it fits or not and where. It´s far easier and cheaper to travel ideas that can be use as a guide for your modeling before invedting time and money in a similar building kit or any scratchbuilt. So more pleasant than drab plywood or styrofoam sheet. You can even get rough measurements from the sky with Earth. Even if i don´t model Mississipi, i found in a small city, 2 buildings that will fit and are plausible.
    Happy modeling.

    Outstanding depth illusion …one of the few who have a trans load facility on their layout. Great backdrop…don’t know if you are aware…the transload scene with the church is Pittsburgh North Side. The church is St Nicholas. The building in the foreground is HJ Heinz Warehouse circa late 80’s. Your tracks are in the city along Smallman St. The upper right building is the X-Pittsburgh North Catholic High School. The 1st scene with cliff side homes to the upper right is Parkview, Shaler & O’Hara Township above Etna and Sharpsburg PA. The old industrial building dates back to the turn of the century 1880’s, could be McKeesport USS Sheet & Tube or PLE RR loco shop in McKees Rocks. Your work is incredibly inspirational even in transition. The commentary is informative a well explained. Keep up the great work. Look forward to all of your past and present video’s..

    John, your layout is coming right along and looking really good and giving me more motivation to get going on my industrial terminal. And as I've been doing research I have found a really auger / conveyor from mini prints that you could use for transloading materials. Instead of leaving a locomomotive where your rail to road transfer area you could use a Trackmobile (if you can find one) Custom Finishing has a non working one that maybe you could use for photos or have it sitting near by the tracks waiting for it's call to service. Or even use a front end loader to move cars around, I've done it and was paid for it when I was a equiipment operator. The local tailcar shop when they started up they used a Gradall! Can't wait to see more inspirational videos coming out from you.

    • @RailserveJohn
      @RailserveJohn  Год назад

      Thanks Bradley! I would love to have a trackmobile work this industry. The BLI model would be perfect although it is only able to move a few cars at a time

    Wow, just wow. The scenery looks so good. If you had zoomed in a bit more at the start scene (when you were talking), and you couldn't see the fascia you would struggle to tell that was a really scene.
    Are you going to do an ops video anytime soon? I am really interested to see how the layout works.
    Also thank you for the advise on the industries on your last video, I've been on Google Earth and RUclips to get information on industries.

    • @RailserveJohn
      @RailserveJohn  Год назад +1

      Thank you! I plan on starting some ops videos shortly once the scenery is further along. This layout has so much more switching with 4 different jobs covering much more space so it will take a few videos to cover the action. Thanks for watching!

    I'm working on a proto-freelance industrial switching layout set in the late 70s. Where did you get your Semi Tractors/Trailers? I'll need some, but really looking for IH from the 70s. Also, I'd be interested in seeing how you did your buried in concrete track. Do you have a tutorial video? Thanks.

    • @RailserveJohn
      @RailserveJohn  Год назад +1

      Thanks! Are you referring to the dry bulk trailers? I believe those are from trucks n stuff. I painted and decaled a few but there are many options. I think you can buy the trailer alone and match it up to an older model truck.
      I don’t have a video on the track in the concrete but all I did was cover with tinted drywall mud, sanded and cut grooves for the flanges. Best to test out in some extra track. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    Sweet looking layout, but I was not aware it has become so plug-n-play kind of thing. When my father built his many years ago he made everything, the grass, trees, buildings, track and ballast. The only things he didn't build were the train engines and cars and switches.
