I love the Surface Pro 8. The experience is fantastic but the price not so much. What do you guys think?
I think it's overpriced and the use cases are very limited for such a pricy device, blame that 4 core cpu. I mean $1600 tablet is for just basic stuffs you've mentioned...is not really helping. Lenovo X1 tablet may be a better alternative if you really want a detachable device.
Great review as always!
Think it's too expensive (and too little storage)
I'm currently looking for a good 2 in 1 laptop. Some of the laptops that I'm considering are the HP envy x360 R7 15 (as it's basically what I'm looking for at a great price). I'm also considering the specter x360 14 (for the screen, but it is almost 40% more expensive than the envy...) I have also looked at some of the Yoga laptops as they also seem to be good, but not as good of a value...
I know that HP has released their new specter x360 16 inch recently. Are you planning to review it, as I can't find ANY reviews of it on youtube...? It would be incredible to see it compared to other 2 in 1 laptops.
Love it. I've always been a fan of the surface line... But I agree - price is a bit high. These devices should be $999 at most.
Yes I agree about the price. But I also don't see a lot of people complaining about Apple's new prices starting at $2000 🤔 lol both are still a dream for most folks sadly.
I have the Pro X and it looks very similar screen size-wise. Finally decent-looking bezels.
I've had this exact model (black/red as well!) for nearly a week now, it's my first surface. So far this thing is absolutely amazing! It does everything I want and the portability/battery make it worth the premium in my opinion. Excellent device.
Same, they are incredible
Have you tried to gaming on it? Lol
@@midloran I've done some video editing on it and it ran it pretty well, I played a couple games but they're not really that intensive so I can't really say anything about that, but it should run medium games pretty well. It's definitely not a gaming device, if you're going to spend over a thousand for gaming just by a gaming PC
@@midloran you can play games through ultimate game pass cloud otherwise I'd stick with the laptop studio
Really ?. there is so many reviews online saying it has overheating issues and screen flickering issues and that the quality control is not very good ?.
I agree with you about the pen. I think the reviewers who have been dissing it haven't used the original surface slim pen since 2019. I've come from the Surface Pro X and it's a big difference. The new pen feels like writing on paper.
I wish other brands would start working in making more tablet style windows 2 in 1’s.
I just purchased my Surface 8 2 days ago. It is my 4th Surface since I started with the Surface 4 on Offer Up. I purchased one for 50 bucks because the student was leaving far away to anotehr college and it was her last hour here and she just needed to get rid of it. Of course I was skeptical, but it turned out soo good, that years later, Im here with a 4th one. I'm an I.T and use extensive CPU-eating programs, very few laptops can hold on to what I throw at them. The surface 6 held out Soo good (i-5, 16gb) so I purchased this 8, and so far, she is handling it like a boss. I use CCTV programs that decode Video and Audio, and I can run them ALL day with as much programs as I want, It will NOT slow down one bit. These Surface laptops are VERY well made, It sucks to hear how soo many people are negative about them when they have no clue on how well they can perform under load. Kudo Microsoft for the Surface Pro line. Id pay a thousand more for them (no I won't, they are ghastly expensive) But I sure wish they would come with at least a pen. 5 Stars from Me. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Great review,
By the way, your roll in "Starship Troopers" was underrated...
I so love the Surface series. This one is amazing but for now, Ii gotta stick with my much-loved Surface Pro 5. However, when I eventually have to upgrade, it'll likely be to the 8. Thx for the awesome review! ☺️👍
I started with the Surface RT, then the Pro, Pro 2 (when it became my main machine with 8Gb RAM), Pro 3 and finally the Pro 5, I really miss having one vs the Lenovo laptop I have for work now, but cant justify one for personal use when I have a decent desktop...
Worth remembering he's talking about Canadian dollars :). Shouldn't need to mention the US price really, but worth knowing.
No this is all in usd unfortunately as a Canadian the prices are a decent chunk more:(
A good, clear, honest review. Much appreciated!
I loved my 2017 Surface Pro (“5”), but it died about a year ago. I got a desktop to replace it, and it's much more powerful. However, I really miss the form factor, so I've finally given in and ordered the Surface Pro 8.
Have you received your Surface 8 yet? How do you like it so far? I just picked up mine, It will be my 4th one, and I haven't put it down.
How do you like it
@@ludwingadrian I like it very much. I preferred the older form factor (bezels exist for a reason on tablets) and Windows 11 is a disaster, but it gets the job done.
Surface Pro 7 user and I find this one to still be the best for me even though the 8 looks so nice. Personally don't need a pure desktop feel this thing does what I need without being too heavy, and with Windows 11 can be a tablet when I want.
How is your battery life? I have a 7 as well and only get around 4-5 hours of school work done before it needs to charge. Nothing intense either it’s mainly google suite and one note.
@@sdean96 Same here the with amount of battery for me it was 7-8 on Win 10 I felt like it was always about to die on me even if I'm not having multiple things open at the same time. But lately it's a little better to me on Win 11 usually have word, browser open with multiple tabs, usually my phone is connected with link to Windows, excel, and some file folder is open all for school mostly. With a few tabs open on another desktop window for my non school stuff.
Checking my setting for screen on time I've got around for the last 24 hrs, about 9hrs and 43mins in the last 7 days it's been about 6hrs and 23 mins of screen on time. I don't use the surface type cover I'm using a knock off so Bluetooth is on always. 🤷🏽♀️ But honestly it is what it is i didn't expect to get the best battery life of any laptop let alone a portable tablet running windows but for me it was a good decision I've been using it ever since and I don't regret it.
@@sdean96 i have an surface pro 6 from 3 years ago and the battery still gets me like 6 hours, with wifi disabled one or two more :)
It even has in some scenarious better battery life than my xps 9710 lol ^^
i got myself a 65wh powerbank with an usb c to surface connect adapter, to charge the surface on the go
👍
I have a Pro (current kitchen computer), Pro 3 (daughter has it), Pro 5 (which I traded in), and my current Pro 7, which I bought on sale. It's my desktop PC when plugged into my Surface Dock.
I like the clean shave Moniz..... suave man...suave. Oh, great review of the surface pro 8. Cheers.
I LOVE UR REVIEWS SO MUCH
Thank you !
Amazing review Mathew! I've got the i5 one, the charger makes faint buzzing sound when not connected to the tablet but plugged into the wall outlet. Is this normal?
The 9 is out now. No audio jack is a huge miss for me. Now thinking to get the 8 to replace my 6. First thing I notice is the horrible placement of the power and volume. The 6 has them on the top left, and that is the best place. Ugh, for this price...
Excellent review! Quick question - I was going for gray surface with ‘ice’ keyboard but LOVE how the black one with red keyboard looks. But, how does the black finish on the Surface react to scratches? Will they show gray? My thinking is on gray surface scratches won’t show much. I am worried on black, if it’s a layer of black finish (like anodized), that scratches will just show the gray of the material below. Scratches will happen and I would like my expensive device to look decent a few years down the road. Thanks!
i have an sp6 in black after an sp5 which was gray. the gray seemed unscratchable and the black 6 is indeed showing its scratches. i think your concern is valid
Buy yourself the Kingston armour cover well worth the small investment
If it is still made of magnesium like the sp7 then the black is painted on, which can chip off. I wish they would use aluminum like apple so that it could be anodized instead.
@@andyhaber89 no the body is no longer magnesium but aluminum, one of the reasons it is heavier. So wondering if it is anodized now?
Two things I don't like about this upgrade, and its my 3rd surface Pro. The problems I have is: (i) I don't feel I'm getting a better laptop. Even if its faster, with new software, it seems the same. I do appreciate the faster charging and 2 USB-type C ports. The big issue is the on/off button is poorly placed. I pack the device in my bag and I can hear the computer starting up. This has happened to me several times. Its concerning because a stowed 'on' computer can overheat and cause fires. So safety issue. I just expected a speed difference. I'm not feeling it. I love the device though.
Dynamic refresh rate feature will roll out in future, they told it in the windows 11 launch.
So in like 2 years?
@@tuckercoffin2164 No, in like 2 months
@@govindkrishnalb ok let’s see and wait. Microsoft has been promising 64 but emulation since they released their first surface pro X and it only came now, 2 years laters, so I am kinda skeptical of Microsoft’s promises
@@tuckercoffin2164 bruh, dynamic refresh rate isn't as hard as 64 bit emulation on ARM. They already showed the feature, they are experimenting with 0-hz to 120Hz rather than 60 to 120 hz. thats why it's taking some time. But you may be right, Microsoft is a slow snail sometimes. anyways lets see and hope for the best.
@@govindkrishnalb Great reply!
I have the surface pro 7 and have been considering upgrading. great review!
You should. I'd say to maybe wait till they go on sale, but being as they are popular right now, maybe hold off till July-Augist-ish for the sales.
Hope Microsoft fixed the battery quality & bulging problem with the surface series.
I love your reviews! By the way, where can we get the wallpaper you show in the video thumbnail? Thanks in advance!
Thanks man I was waiting for this video after you responded to my comment. Great job man . Big fan from India 🇮🇳
🙌
I have the Surface Pro 2 with an i5 processor with 128GB. It cost $999 without the type cover. I use it 3D modeling with SolidWorks and taking notes. it handles it well for those applications. I think an i7 processor is a bit of an overkill. Saving money with an i5 processor is enough for most applications. That's just my opinion. My surface is still running strong fyi due to the SSD drive.
Hi Matthew!
*Have you tried open the "Camera" app with the Surface Pro 8 to see if can scan QR codes?* D:
This feature is in the iPhone default camera app, but I wanted to know if the Surface Pro 8 with Windows 11 has it :o
I think when Intel releases there rise-v chips next year (apparently) these surface products will be even much better.
"Next year the devices will be even better."
captain obvious to the rescue!
@@Ryuudo123 well most people don’t know about intel’s risc-v chips so im not really being caption obvious. Weird how you kept that part out. You make a good politician or Journalist.
if they went to AMD there would be no competition
@@uselessoldman7964 They should have AMD versions as you get better specs for same price, less heat generated and less power needed. There has to be backroom deal or Microsoft is plain dumb which is possible.
@@nickgennady obviously Intel is offering Microsoft as great deal on their processors which they should do cos compared to AMD there crap
Just bought a Surface Pro to replace my 2016 iPad. It cost a lot but I'm looking forward to making it my new go-to portable machine. Got the i7 with 16GB ram and 512 GB ssd because I intend to be using it for some years.
How much did you pay for it?
I'm planning to get one with the same specs too
@@marieantoine I'm in New Zealand so it cost me NZ$3,300 with the keyboard included thanks to a Black Friday deal. That translates to roughly US$2,250. Things end up costing a bit more for us here in NZ anyway due to import fees and whatnot.
@@MVIVN Oh. That price is actually close to the one being retailed here in Philippines. But without the keyboard and pen :(
@@marieantoine I just got lucky that there was a Black Friday deal, it basically subtracted the cost of the keyboard and pen so I thought it was a pretty good deal!
@@MVIVN How is it going to far i have heard the i7 model tends to overheat ?.
Hi, great review. Have you tried with Sketch UP web based? how doe sthe pen react?
Long overdue to upgrade the trackpad size on Surface Pros, lots of space there to increase it.
I seriously love this device, probably my favourite windows device. The price was a extreme let down. Maybe after 2~3 years I can buy it around 1000 for the 16gb...
sp7 400$ on eBay just bought one
Office Depot just had it for 1200 16gb and 512gb. What a steal!
@@tameone WOW I'm feeling a LILLL bit jealous!!! Have fun :D
Which spec and colour you go for? Which colour device and keyboard?
Sometimes if you get it refurbished you can get them cheaper! :)
As a desktop user who also has a Surface the biggest downside to the Surface and the reason I still have to keep my desktop is that the Surface can only add 2 external monitors. My 7 yr old Dell PC can run 3 very big ones. With the Surface I'd have to use the small Surface monitor as my 3rd monitor which is a significant downgrade to what I've been using for over 10 years.
Hi Matt - did you do any video call tests ? I am have a Surface Pro 7 I7 that is unusable on video calls due to thermal throttling. I am thinking of upgrading to the Pro 8 or the Surface Laptop 4
If the Surface Laptop 5 has all around thin bezels it will be my next laptop.
hey matt, how is the perfomance with that tablet with apps such as adobe, premier animate, photoghshop, andything like that, cause im deciding whether to get this microsoft surface tablet or just a drwing tablet to hook up to my laptop.
Do u know other laptops which are 2 in 1 with 120 hz display? Other than the surface?
Thinking to get this for programming.
Thank yoooooooou
Great job well done ✅👍
How about coding experience with surface pro 8?
All the best and thanks again 🙏
What would you suggest to a computer science student like me: a Microsoft surface pro 8 or MacBook air M2?
I am in the beginning of this review and laughed when you said noone is buying this without the type cover. I am the single person in the world wanting to get this without it because i travel with a mechanical split wireless keyboard everywhere
Just got the surface pro 8 business edition with lte. I5 16gb 1tb ssd love it. Yes I replaced ssd
This is the first review I've seen where the battery life sounds decent. Most are saying they are LUCKY to get 6 hours. Other than the price, this is the biggest concern... especially when comparing to Apple.
I suppose the biggest selling point of a Surface Pro is that it is an actual computer running the full sized applications.
If the full integration with Android apps ever takes place, this will help ... in the sense that an actual eco-system with Android/Samsung will develop as a way to compete with that very nice Apple system.
I think this guy is probably getting paid to say those things. Because there have been alot of people saying it overheats and has screen flickering problems and all sorts of stuff.
Android is coming to Windows 11 in the big update. Windows honestly is going to have a big advantage once you don't need an emulator for Android.
I love my Pro. You'd have to take it out of my cold, dead hands because it has given me freedom I wouldn't have with an ordinary laptop due to severe chronic pain (unusable design, I also cannot sit at desks). They're so light I can just have it on a little lap board on my special chair. The keyboard having being so flat and on the slant is a huge ergonomic improvement over laptops even if they've gotten slimmer over time. It doesn't hurt my wrists/arthritis and as they're sitting flat not unnatural angles. I also have full Windows and everything from office to major developer software on something this thin and light. That said the battery life has been horrific on every model I've ever had. If I were portable, I'd struggle but mine don't leave a power source. Is it worth the obscene price? Depends on individual use cases. I'd love an 8...just don't know if I can justify the price.
The 6, I'd lose 50% battery in less than 2 hours during power outage on minimum brightness and with only Chrome and required Windows processes left running.
He probably just checked his email and fiddled with it a bit and then left a video on loop to see how long it would last. Different to using photoshop or whatever
I'm thinking of getting a surface pro 8. How would the i5 16GB one fare during startup or if I'm running multiple background apps like Discord+MS Teams+Onedrive+Zoom?
Do you think the 16gb over 8gb is pointless for a student who will only really use it for note taking and writing essays and media consumption, maybe some excel/power point?
Just thinking if the 8gb is future proof enough. The price jump is pretty significant at least in Canada.
You know why they can’t make it much cheaper though right?
It’s crazy when you think about Apple printing money on iPad sales and Microsoft making nothing basically
@TheRealBandito that’s not a valid response at all 😑. Stating random facts isn’t a rebuttal.
Matt you are looking very fresh these days
I love the Surface Pro lineup, but they are soo soooo expensive. Luckily, given my very non-intensive use case (web browsing, a lot of video streaming, light Office use, emailing), I can buy two generations behind and still have all the power I need. It's about time for me to start looking at an upgrade, and I think I'll go for the 8 this time I just love the form factor so much. And I don't like using a mobile OS for a tablet... Anything I would want to do with an Android tablet or iPad I could just do with my phone. Sometimes I just want a desktop experience.
I really want to get one to modify for use as a vehicle head unit but the price tag is the only thing sour for me.
Finally a great 2 in 1 with thunderbolt 4 for eGPUs
EGPUs kinda suck sadly :( wish there was a standard x16 pci 4.0 port or x8 on the side of laptops like this
The moral of the story is never pre-order!
A few months later they will drop the price
Or buy Open-Box from Best Buy. My open-box 2020 SPX (SQ2, 16 ram, 512ssd) was only $599 (full retail price $1,799).
@@msp5138 sick deal buddy
The maxed out surface pro 8 is just about as pricey as the base model of the macbook pro 14".
They're two different products because you can't hand-write with a macbook, but I just can't help feel suckered to pay such a premium for so little compute.
I'm trying to decide if I want to buy the open box SP8 for $670. I think that is a lot better value. It is on sale new for $899 which is what I feel it should have cost.
If you like Apple ecosystem I can see it, but as far as PC goes SP8 isn't that bad. Price wise I can get a laptop with more power and OLED screen, but it's going to cost a bit more.
Microsoft is a mid teir laptop in a very small package which can double as a pad with power issues (laptop battery life)
You are undoubtedly confused.
While those other products may be cheaper, I’d still get the 8. My 7 died, shows the logo and then I get a black screen, my brother-in-law had the same problem before I did and I don’t trust the 7’s anymore because of it. My type cover stopped working for months and then randomly started working again, my pen died last month and this month it’s the Surface itself. I don’t trust the 7+ not to have the same issue. I’ve tried everything to fix it and nothing has worked. Maybe the 8 will work better? It has a better pen too and I need it for full Photoshop because I’m a graphic designer and the mobile Cintiq’s are expensive.
Can you compare it to the Surface Pro X please. No one's done this, despite being an obvious comparison. I'd like to particularly know how different the battery is in real world use. Thanks.
Pro x is running mainly arm apps and win64 apps with arm emulator. Pro 8 runs natively w64 and w32 apps. The battery life (and a lot of other things) are affected by that.
@@tomswan3401 i hope Microsoft is learning from Windows 11 Windows Subsystem for Android. To improve Windows on ARM.
SP8 is more powerful than SPX. Geek bench single core 1300s i5 and 1500s i7 compared to only 800 for SPX. SPX has better battery life. Over 12 hours compared to 9 hours of continuous RUclips viewing (40% brightness, battery saver on and wifi on).
Nice review, a small note: Microsoft will bring an update to Surface Pro 8 to enable Dynamic Refresh Rate so it will switch automatically from 60 Hz to 120 Hz depending on the content and use case (such as scrolling).
Of course, you did a review on how the product is today and you did a great job!
MS has given no timeline for that dynamic refresh and I do not believe it will be like Pro Motion allowing 10-120Hz so not great for battery life compared to proper tablets like the iPad Pro M1.
Totally and I should of mentioned this but i tend to stay away from future promises and review the product as it is now
Sleep dowm
I use this work at home. In case anyone is wondering, Battery isn't the best but it's good enough. I also my own keyboard tho, because yes, the attachment is too small for me
Can you do a video on how it would perform and the experience with android apps comparing to an android tablet? Obviously google play services isn't there but there's a guy who managed to install it (look it up) and others were able to sideload apks and alternative android app stores. Thanks
Why do you need Android apps on a fucking Windows PC. I don't get it.
WHAT the speak is amazing judging from the what showed. They managed to packed such speak on that slim top screen while MacBook is in the base. Nice job Microsoft
well not really because those speakers from the premium tablets ie S7+ or ipad Pro are much better than Surface Pro's. Probably due o they just channel their resource more on productivity aspects but not the entertainment side
hi!! what do you think about this surface for editing photo raw or video editing (30mb and 4k) i5 not evo versione.thanks!!!
Can you charge this thing with a USB-c charger? Or do you HAVE to use the included magnetic charger
Hi. I love your comments on new devices and new computers but what i really miss as is a long term review of that stuff. For us, the end users , as we do not buy any new machine that comes out and we do not replace those computers every second day , it would be very useful. It represent major investment and our pros and cons would be slightly different . Let's take durability ( highly important)or failure rates .We cannot run every few month to a lab or a service center.Another issue is battery deterioration (they all are). Take my case for an example , i run today a Macbook 2015 (A1502) that was serviced twice in those 7 years..... but i would like to replace it with an updated Windows computer and i know for a fact that the highly praised Dell would not have stood that test of time..
I am attracted to that surface 8 pro but the fully equipped will set me back 3000, would it will stand the test of time like a 3000 Macbook Pro?i have no idea and i have no way to find that info.
regards.
I’ve heard mixed things. The battery is not replaceable, I think you can do it but it’s not easy. Also, people are still using their old surface pros, so I think it does do well long term.
I'm really confused why Surface Go was provided a keyboard with a larger trackpad, but MS says not to SF Pro :)
surface book 4 with intel gen 12th would be perfect
I haven't even unboxed my SP8 yet (I will on Christmas... yes, I'm actually giving it to myself!), and there's already one thing that I'm disappointed with. Back in October, when I first knew I was going to get a SP8, I went ahead and bought a 512GB MicroSD card for extra storage space (since I only got the SP8 model with the i5 and a 256GB SSD to save some $$). Well... I found out the hard way that, starting with the Surface Pro X, Microsoft did away with the SD card slot. So now I have to see if Amazon will let me return a 512GB MicroSD card that I've had for two months... and if they won't take it back, I'm either stuck with it or else I have to sell it on Marketplace. The SD card slot on the SP7 (and earlier models) was such a small, but useful, feature... it just doesn't make any sense why Microsoft got rid of it (eye roll!)
Would this be ideal if the main reason for purchase was using it with my cricut machine for projects. I was told yes because of the graphics? Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
It works PERFECT with the Cricut machine.
I like the wallpaper of the surface on the cover of your video. Could you tell me where I can get it?
What we need is surface laptop 5, this one is like buying a motorcycle with no brakes cuz you have to buy it separately
The lack of a microSD slot is a big letdown for me. Other than that it's really great but I won't be upgrading until the card slot is back.
Did they remove the micro sd card expansion?
@@metalliholic Yes, no card slot anymore. They already removed it in the Surface Pro X and now again. I'm not willing to pay 300-400€ more for a higher-capacity model when I can just buy a 512GB microSD for 100€.
@@Gonzax Why would you want an SD card slot if you can swap out the SSD now?
@@henryohm3841 Because it's cheaper, because that type of SSD is hard to come by and not cheap, because I don't want to reinstall the OS, because you lose the guarantee if you change it, because an SD card slot comes in very handy in many situations, because I have several SD cards I could keep using if there was a slot for them, without spending a single penny and mostly because with a device so expensive as the Pro 8 the last thing I want is to spend one single dollar on it to do something I could have for free in previous models.
No one's buying it without the type cover? I was planning to buy this without the type cover though hahaha
Since it has bluetooth, I'll just connect my wireless mechanical keyboard and mouse and I'm all good!
But after checking out what you suggested (HP Spectre x360) I think I'm swerving XD

Not remotely comparable to an iPad. iOS is not mature enough to do anything meaningful.
Can't agree more 👍
3:40 The previous generations of Surface Pro were not covered by the TypeCover while in the "up" position. I havea Surface Pro 4 and like the Pro 8, the Type Cover only covers the bottom bezel....not the task bar (which you seems to be saying)..
I meant to say the surface pro x.
I just bought it. one problem, the charger gets too hot. Do you know why would it be the case? also the back of the device itself gets warm when it is charging.
Would this be good for recording and editing podcasts?
Intel's new 12th gen chips sound pretty sweet. I'm going to wait for a future version with those chips inside. Especially for that price, I would really want to hold on to it for a long time. I've got an old chonky laptop for now. Better start saving up lol
You are talking about 11th gen. Still not as great as m1 and ryzen 5000 series, when considering money.
He is talking about 12th Gen Alder Lake Intel Chips, 12th Gen i9 btw crushed M1 Max in Benchmarks, they also have brand new architecture with separate power and efficiency cores. Intel has finally woken up from sleep.
@@saksham44 Intel has not really turned things around, (sorry! 😬).
The 12900HK SKU in the unverified Geekbench leak can boost up to 215W for a short time, and sustain 115W under long term boost..This level of power consumption is unheard of in the mobile space. Laptops using Alder Lake-P will need pretty elaborate cooling solutions to deal with the heat 🔥
So, Alder Lake-P might technically win on performance in SOME scenarios, but it will be using an extreme amount of power to get there (for context, the M1 Pro/Max CPU portion uses less than 40W maxed out 🙏)
It is also extremely unlikely 12th Gen Alder Lake SKUs for devices like the Sufface will actually compete with the M1 series because of the power/thermal constraints. A single M1 CPU core only needs 5W to hit peak performance (hence its fine in a fanless iPad), but a single Alder Lake big core will need >20W to hit the impressive numbers seen in the leak 😅
It’s also worth noting that Intel’s hybrid design doesn’t follow what Apple and other Arm SoC vendors do. Apple has large performance cores and tiny, low performance efficiency cores. The efficiency cores in M1 only use about 1W maxed out - they’re designed primarily for light background tasks.
The small cores in Alder Lake are actually pretty big and intended to boost multi-thread performance. They should be thought of more like small performance cores as they target Skylake level performance. The power consumption of Intel’s small core is going to be relatively high compared to Apple/Arm. it’s just a different kind of design 👍
If you want to read up on it, check articles from Anandtech and such
@@Aaronage1 ehh we all know x86 would never be able to compete against ARM when it comes to efficiency in terms of power draw and consumption. I'm more interested in how much it's better versus the current generation of processors. If it can be even 20% better, that's a big improvement. Same level of performance but 2 more hours of battery life? I'll take it.
Do you recommend this for a landscape designer?
They should make a surface non-pro around $1000-1200. That would be a very unique and competitive product. For the price it is right now, You can buy a high end laptop and an iPad for the same price. But at a lower price it would be very compelling for someone like me, who wants to consolidate down to one device.
Only the i3 Version. That other "Gold" Processor Go is trash, don't even think about purchasing that one. A tree will do more work.
iPad is not the same as laptop PC. Plus Android emulator is going to be built in to Windows 11 very soon. Yes it's more expensive, but it's a full computer.
Matthew, was the 12 hours with 120 hz or 60? Great video man 💪
I had the Surface Pro 8 i5 16 gb RAM. Max battery I had with 120 hz and 100% brightness was 5 hours.
@@shanesonn thats kind of different. But max brightness does a lot. Why did you part with it?
@@alexanderwendelboe6550 Max brightness isn't too bright considering the display is very reflective. I returned it because of the battery. I'm a student and I need something that can last longer than 5 hours
@@shanesonn okay. Got mine today. Been playing around with it most of the day. Not hitting 12 hours yet, but at least its closer to 12 then 5 hours.
@@alexanderwendelboe6550 What's your brightness at and hz? I might have gotten a bad unit
Would it be better to get the 16gb SP7+ with an i7 or get the 16gb SP8 with an i5 instead?
Looking at it I think if you already have the Surface Pro 7 it's not worth spending all that money to upgrade to the 8 but what does everyone else think?
Thunderbolt makes ALL the difference if you work with a lot of Data. If you don't, the 7 is just fine. That and the 120hz screen too. The pen and drawing are much much faster, scrolling is smoother, and the experience is more amazing.
I have a question Is this Surface a good deal for working a lot with adobe programms (photoshop, premiere pro, illustrator)?
Yes, it is. I photoshop ALL the time with 0 issues. (i7-16gb, 256gb)
@@henryohm3841 Hey how does SP8 i7 handle multi-tasking? I currently have a SP7 i5- 8gb, 256gb and it can be unbelievably slow at times when I have it connected to a second screen with a youtube video in one corner with multiple tabs, a stock chart in another, and adobe illustrator on the tablet drawing. Find it freezing up or just crawling, ALOT. When its good its good, when its bad its bad. Have you had these problems on the SP8?
Antone got a link to the wallpaper? XD
Im loving the surface pro 8 designed but the price with the type cover is too much if they included one it would be a no brainer
i like that they're separate its more customizable
@@sahara2183 they could keep it the same way and include a type cover of your choice. they keep saying its a laptop after all
Yeh they really need to include the keyboard thats whats holding me back to be honest.
Can you please let me know how much battery life does it drain while watching 1080p video on RUclips for 1 hr at 35% brightness... can you please test and let me know. My surface pro 8 drains 12% .?
Damn Matt looking sharp 🔥
I think this could be a good device for a desk setup.
This is best setup for Esports i think, 120 hz display and 12 fps xD
I think for a desk setup one can use a laptop (no 2 in 1 like the pro 8), laptops like mac m1 etc. pro 8 i think and i use mine for stuff when youre not sure if there will be a desk and you use it as laptop on your knees and sometimes as tablet.
@@taigaramsey8061 egpu sucks, a 3080ti will act as 3050ti otlr 3060 mobile. Watch Garrods tech's 1 year old video comparing the performance of egpu vs gpu.
But this product is not for gamers at all, this is for people who do graphical work, one of my friend is cartoonist at bbc and he uses thia type of thing personally. Its for people who carry their tool and start working whever their brain catches an idea. Again one of my friend is copywriter at mccain ad agency, he uses hp spectre, he writes whenever he catches any idea, so he carry his laptop everywhere... you might have an idea of the type of use this product is focuses to.
@@taigaramsey8061 Yes egpu 2000usd surface pro then 1200 usd more in purchasing egpu encloses like asus sells, and purchase something like 3080ti so that it can perform like 3060 laptop and buy another 700 watt psu then come to know that the processor sucks, end up purchasing external monitor because this one is small for gaming, and end up purchasing desktop cpu for more clocks as ur egpu is giving 30 fps in AAA titles, then end up with external liquid cooling system. Maybe end up building desktop xD
I was wondering where I can find the photo on the display in the thumbnail?
can the slow ssd be replaced by a pcie gen 4.0 one?
i just wanna say the thumbnail is fkn fire
Thank you Jay!
I own Surface Pro and eventually will get Surface Pro 8 (when my current one will become obsolete).
But there is no way I'll get rid of *Kecychron K7* low profile 65% mechanical keyboard. So *NO TYPE COVER FOR ME! Microsoft can keep it.*
Can I use this for gaming? Such as high 3D
So the i7 and i5 are same price for the 256/16gb version. Which one?
What wallpaper is that you have in the thumbnail for the video?
Hi I have a surface pro 8 i just found out after finding getting the mini micro slot area this none to put in to tranfer or keep data files i wud like to transfer to another computer this surface doesn't have a usb to put in a flash drive. How would i store tranfer files liken a usb flashdrive?
Does anyone use it to play videos onto your TV? I'm looking for a light laptop, but watching movies through a hdmi is a must for me. Is there lag?
I hate when RUclipsrs edit their videos but audio is just unmastered so you have crank up way above you usually listen.
Man looking at the price of this vs getting a new M1Pro is kinda embarrassing. I’m using the Surface Pro 8 as well and the brightest flaw is not the computer, it’s absolutely the price. Otherwise I love the Surface Pro 8. Funnest Windows device I’ve used in a while. 👾
Agreed! The price is a lot to ask but its an awesome computer.
So can these record someone talking to you even when they are closed? Like with the lid down?
Is the 256 card in the back contain the OS or is it just storage?
What is the wallpaper on the thumbnail?
As cool as the new design is, I’d wait for Alderlake CPU’s which will hopefully do something meaningful for battery life.
That’s another 2-3 yr wait..just like this was a actual upgrade since the 4th Gen.
Well, Surface Pro 9 will arrive anytime soon, but the price of the SP8 is dropping fast. Can I fully play The Sims 4 in this machine?
I currently play in my Surface Pro 4 (with i5, 8gb memory, 256 gb storage) but with medium to low graphics, with almost all the expansion packs installed (currently missing only 2). I bought it 6 years ago and it does the job, but I would like to upgrade and run the game with better graphics.
I know I should better be looking for a gaming laptop, but I'm also a teacher with no classroom and I need to walk a lot from room to room, and I would also like to use this for my work.
Is it good for graphics designers?
