My four to join BIG123 would be Pitt, VT, Louisville, Miami
3- Wake, BC, SMU, are screwed; Cuse are serious trouble.
Miami is a small private school that doesn't have a big loyal fanbase.
The 4 the Big 12 would take are NC St, Lousiville, Pitt and Va Tech are my guess.
I would swap NC in there. They would be coming with the Jordan brand as well. And a better football history as well
Miami (and their 5 National Championships), is in one of the biggest TV audience areas...South Florida... and one of the biggest recruiting areas... IF the BIG12 was lucky enough to get them they would be a marquee team. Think again.
GA Tech provides access to Atlanta, closer to Central Florida, and have a decent history with basketball and football, Louisville and Pitt locks in nicely with WVA and Cincy and the basketball centric Big12. Then VATech because NCSt is likely a partner with UNC more so than VA and VATech.
@@jayjohnson7646 Wishful thinking. UNC is not going to the Big12. They'll have their choice of the SEC and B1G. The absolute only way they end up in the Big12 would be if the Board of Governors of the UNC system forces a package deal of UNC/NCSU onto the SEC/B1G and they don't bite. And if the board did that, they'd be costing Carolina tens of millions of dollars every year. Not sure they'd be willing to do that to a university of UNC's stature. Carolina's own board of trustees also holds some sway. Personally, as a big college basketball fan, I'd rather see the Tar Heels in the Big12, but I really don't see it happening.
Miami gets good TV ratings. That's all that matters here. I hate to say it but nobody cares about attendance or competition when these decisions are made. It's strictly about TV because that's the main source of revenue.

Exactly, NC State is a bigger FB school than Carolina and Duke…and the NC university will never allow Carolina and NC State be split in conferences b/c the 120 year rivalry
Hopefully ACC survives… if all they lose is FSU and Clemson, they should just stay together.
I believe Pitt and Kansas State are the other schools that might be added in the future just to give a little bit more balance to the conferences for the Ruckers Northwestern, Mississippi State, and Vanderbilt. Also, I believe both super conferences are going to get somewhere around 50 schools combined.

The Big 12 would get pretty much nothing by adding Syracuse. Lots of other schools on the Big 12 list before Syracuse.
I can't imagine any scenario where the Big12 takes Syracuse. If the Big12 really wanted to play in the NY area they would take UCONN which is closer to NYC, has elite basketball, and quite frankly a football program this isn't much worse.

it is "rigged up!" thank you for spelling it out so clearly. "those who stand to benefit the most are also the ones in controls of the levers." all this has been a way to force the P2 ESPN - CFP arrangement that has been years in the planning
I agree that Stanford and Cal go back west. At that point if you are the remaining PAC 12 you have been waiting for this and hoping for it to happen because it means they can get back to viability. I suspect you are right about Miami, they might find it tricky to find a home in the other two. Along with the fact that the SEC and Big10 can be totally selective, they can just do what they did to the PAC and Big 12. Then wait and see who becomes the power schools at the big 12 and if they become a consistent enough player you steal them in 4 years. We just are not done with this until there is a viable super league and they can shut out the rest.
Stanford isn't going back. Their plan is to latch onto ND and pray for the best. The Pac 2 are hoping their NOT the ones that have to build a new conference, they are still praying for a spot.
Why would you not be interested in taking the 10 remaining ACC teams to get to 24 total, split into east and west divisions with the old ACC making up the majority of the east (along with WVU, Cincy, UCF, and tbd) and become the most dominant basketball conference and good enough place in football to gain leverage against the sec and big10 for future negotiations?
Taking 10 would put the Big12 at 26, not 24, and I don't think the conference would want to get that big.
With the financial disparity there is no leverage, the gap only gets wider each year .
One thing that no one talks about. Is the SEC and B10 taking B12 schools. Baylor in particular to the B10, is the one way B10 can get into the Texas market. . Kansas to the B10 isn't crazy. If their programs continue on an upward trend, their new stadium will put them on semi equal footing with the rest of the B10 schools, AAU member. Next step for B12 needs to be adding the 4 west coast schools.
Oregon St., Wash. St., SDSU, Tulane, Memphis, USF and U Conn are next up after 6 or 7 teams leave the ACC. They join what is left of SMU, Stanford, Cal, BC, Syracuse, Wake Forest, GT, NC St., VT, Louisville, Duke and Pitt.
The ACC would be the fourth best conference not far behind the Big 12.
Of those schools you mentioned that are possible additions, not stellar football schools other than Tulane maybe and USF sometimes. That list would be more of a basketball thing.
Oregon St and Wash St are gonna join MWC and bring the MWC the Pac 12 rights.
@@netdragon256 I think Memphis is a much better football program than Tulane and USF in many ways. The MW is not the first option for the PAC 2 because it has too many dead weight teams in it. It will be interesting to see what finally happens.
Two points of clarification:
Notre Dame can't go anywhere right now even if they wanted to. They are contractually obligated by the current ESPN ACC deal that if they join a conference fully it has to be the ACC. Now if enough teams agree to leave and the GOR is over then Notre Dame is freed from that.
Second part is the NC Board of Governors recently made it so no public NC university can change conferences without the BOG's president's approval. So this does not necessarily mean that NC State and UNC go to the same conference but it also makes it very unlikely that UNC gets into Big 10/SEC and NC State is left in a lesser situation.
If Duke went anywhere, they would go to the Big East and become either a football independent or join either the American or C-USA in football only.
ND football is independent, but they signed a contract that if they join a conference, it would have to be the ACC until their contract is up.
Why would you want Miami ? Have you seen their home game attendance other than the fsu games. 8 - 10k Attendance at best . You think they would travel to big 12 games? Nope

It's not about attendance because that revenue just goes directly to the school anyway, and Miami's attendance will always suck as long as they play in that NFL stadium an hour away from campus. It's not even about on-field performance and winning. It's about TV viewership. That's what ALL this is about. And the fact is Miami does still get TV ratings.
Money, recruiting, interesting matchups, they recruit well and will draw a lot of hype, rivals with WVU and others that could be added
Clemson waiting to sue the ACC seems very deliberate. They waited to see what the conf response to FSU was and then made their decision. ESPN can opt out of the acc deal in 2027 and the network has to make a decision on opting out by February of 2025. The conference may be able to renegotiate a better deal but that seems unlikely.
If Notre Dame is putting their non football sports somewhere, I’d imagine they’d consider The Big East with the other Catholic schools
Possibly but I think they'd prefer to be in a higher profile conference and be associated with Big12 basketball more than the Big East. They'd get more national exposure and higher viewership plus the Big12 has multiple religious schools already and seems to work well with them.
Plus the Big12 could provide a scheduling agreement in football if ND was open to it, where they could still maintain their independence and play who they want but have a couple match-ups a year with Big12 teams across the country.
@@michaeldavis2966Notre Dame is NOT going to the B12. They can make more by being independent. Secondly, Notre Dame is Catholic. It is not Baptist or Mormon and has zero in common with TCU, Baylor or BYU. Notre Dame just received AAU membership so it can easily move to the B1G if and when it wants to do so. What reason do you think makes ND interested in the B12???
@@Jimmy-sj9ny1. I never said they were going to the Big12. I simply responded to a comment giving my opinion which would be more desirable out of the two options. I don't in any way think they are joining the Big12.
2. Obviously they would stay independent for football. I never said they wouldn't. But they are currently part of a conference for other sports (the ACC) and if that conference no longer existed, where would they go?
3. They have a lot in common. A shared belief in a higher deity, being Jesus Christ. They operate as religious institutions and would find an openness to accept them as such in the Big12 whereas other conference (the PAC when it existed for example) have expressed disdain for affiliating themselves with religious institutions.
4. You are correct, they could move to the BIG anytime they wanted to but they have thus far expressed no interest in doing so. In fact, the whole point of the original comment was to explore what would happen if they wanted to remain independent in football (which they continue to express that desire) but want to continue to affiliate themselves with a conference in other sports if the ACC no longer exists.
And (not including ND) the biggest ACC prize is Miami. And when they do get into the B10, Miami will finally get motivated to build an on campus stadium. Those 8 million potential viewers is worth WAY more than any tradition, records, that Clemson and FSU have. You can't look at this for a football prospective, you gotta look at from a strict money POV. Every conference would roll out the red carpet for Miami to join.
At least the Big12 saw the writing on the wall and negotiated an early exit for Texas and Oklahoma. ACC is like that girlfriend who doesn't want you to leave even though the love is gone and will do everything to keep you in the relationship.

I think the BIG12 is actually in a very good position, they have a plan, (unlike the ACC), they have a purpose, and they are needed. I'll bet eventually over time they become as big as the big 2 conferences... more teams are needed to participate in this whole thing. (I'm an alum of FSU, so no bias here).

After FSU and Clemson join the P2 the ACC and big 12 just need to merge to be somewhat viable bc trying to pluck from and add from each others conferences does nothing additive to either conference. Itd be lateral moves with no increase in revenue. Merging Theyd at least have a product that would be worth something from Espn's/fox standpoint but the big 12 and acc would then need to accept their downward relegation to Group of/mid major status.
FSU and Clem aren't ever joining that loser conference 🤣 you're a 🤡 if you don't think those 2 haven't already been assured they have a legitimate landing spot you're kidding yourself.

Nothing you said made sense....All I said was after FSU and Clemson go to either Sec or B1G to which they already know or have assurances that they'll land somewhere in the P2, the big 12 and ACC and big 12 need to either merge conferences or become irrelevant mid major conferences. Acc is completely blowing this. Haven't learned to cut their losses. Settle before you lose the entire Mag 7 instead of just the too 3. Settle for a price only a few could afford. Approx $175-225m. Put in a refund of the difference if others want to leave for less, this keep others from settling for less. Spread payouts over next 10 years to only remaining, current members.

I think Syracuse has the potential to jump many other ACC schools if they can get the football program winning again because they have a foundation support of the community that's stronger than many ACC teams winning but have foundational problems but weak community fanbases. Pitt/Unc/BC/Miami/Duke/WF/GT these schools have more success in winning but are not strong in their fabase. I can only hope Syracuse football can win because they can move up the pecking order fast
Why just 4 teams? TBH if the ACC does implode I think the Big XII would go to 24 teams and the B1G and SEC to 20 reaching the magical 64 number needed for a possible future Super League.
I see FSU/Clemson to the B1G, NC/NCST/VA/VATECH to the SEC, and Duke, Miami, GT, Pitt, Louisville, WSU, OSU, and Cal to the Big XII creating a true coast to coast conference. You could easily have 6 pods of 4 teams that play each other as well as 1 team from each other pod on a rotating 4 year basis

Do you guys think as a result of all this, the PAC 12 could revive by all the ACC lower tier schools needing a power 5 home and opting to backfill the PAC 12 which is still alive and with an ability to negotiate a better deal than what they have now.
I don't think the ACC will fall apart as you guys predict (hope); they will add and may even add from the BIG12.

The so-called "magnificent 7" + GTECH don't need another conference. They could leave and form their own conference and take almost all the TV money with them. Same money split fewer ways makes them competitive with the BIG/SEC. Cal/Stanford/SMU should just join a reconstituted PAC-12 by merging with Wash St./Oregon St. and the entire MWC. So there could still be a "Power 4", just one of them only has 8-10 teams. The PAC would be a tweener conference, between the Power 4 and G4 (like the American was becoming before they got raided and could be again if they pick up the ACC leftovers). Louisville and Pitt don't move the needle for me, but for the sake of long suffering WV maybe you look at adding them. I don't really see any other compelling reason to add any of the ACC leftovers in this scenario.

If the ACC really wanted to stay together they would've done everything in their power to get ND in full time before the FSU departure. They should've courted a disgruntled Texas A&M, pulled in WV and cut ties with the 3 worse bottom feeders in the ACC. Also get rid of the 3 Pac schools. That would've given the conference serious clout that would rival the SEC & B1G. Too little too late

GT is an AAU school in the Atlanta TV market. They would 100% be Big 10 bound.
It would be a big mistake to let ND in too the BIG 12.

Looking at football alone, Miami has a better all-time win record than Clemson, UNC, Virginia is is only slightly behind FSU. Miami has more National Championships and Heisman winners than of those schools. Sports aside, Miami is in a prime recruiting area, is primary CF team in 5 TV market in Florida (not just Miami/Ft. Lauderdale), has one of the largest NIL funds in the country, and would be a prime travel destination for any rival in the country.
Miami has something else in higher quantities than any other school in the ACC, including FSU and Clemson... revenue upside. Even without investing in football, which led to the last 20 years of mediocrity, Miami is still one of the most profitable football programs in the ACC. Imagine what the upside is now that the administration has made a commitment to invest in the program.
The idea that Miami is on the bubble when it comes to joining one of the big 2 is ludicrous. TV networks will eventually decide realignment.. just ask Fox and ESPN if they want Miami in the SEC or B1G.
You do not let Norte Dame in the league - without football. It killed the old Big East. It is killing the ACC. It brings doom.

I think B12 should only add 4 and they should be Pitt, L-ville, Miami, and Duke. This coming from a UCF fan.

Business/Contract law is iron clad. FSU and CU signed their deal willingly. They CAN leave at any time, but will lose in legal battle blood letting for 5 years or more. They will pay big in the end. Go ahead and leave cowards. ACC remaining is still better markets than B12, grow up and get a clue. ACC will move on UCONN soon, cause they have the votes no matter what CU and FSU want.
ACC contract with the schools is rock solid, AND the schools signed the contract twice. FSU and Clemson do not have a leg to stand on. Unless there are 8 teams that want to leave, this conf is staying together for 12 more years until the contract expires.

Maybe I'm just getting old but all this realignment crap just makes college sports stupid.
It started to get annoying a couple of years ago and I unsubscribed to ESecPN because they were the biggest idiots involved.
If the ACC implodes my interest in college sports will be mostly gone. I'd probably still go watch an occasional live game and maybe pay attention to tournament results on youtube. Too bad college sports used to be special.
Here’s what I think will happen:
1: Florida State, Clemson & Miami bolt for the SEC
2: North Carolina heads to either the SEC OR the Big Ten
3: N.C. State, Virginia & Virginia Tech join the Big 12
I know my predictions might not be spot on, but if I was a gambling man, I’d be willing to put my money on it.
Pitt and Louisville are likely Big 12 adds; the B1G could pick up FSU, GaTech, UNC and ND.
