thank you sooo much im in hon eng and i suck at interpreting oldish english and dont know anything about mythology 😭😭 this genuinely such a easier way to digest the books!!
As always, Erica.... really excellent. My first time with the Odyssey so this will be fun! I truly appreciate all of the time and effort you give to your episodes!!
For name pronunciations: Wikipedia usually has a phonetic transcription of the English pronunciation and the original Greek. On desktop, you can hover over each IPA letter to see how it's pronounced. Greek has a stress mark so you know which syllable to emphasize. Telemachus in Greek is Τηλέμαχος. Sometimes the English pronunciation differs from the Greek, but just look for the stress mark in the IPA- it's an apostrophe-like symbol that goes before the stressed syllable.
I'm also wondering if Penelope didn't want to turn away the suitors BECAUSE of what happened to Helen as like a cautionary tale...like these guys will have no chill once they get going so let's let em hang out until we figure out an alternative 😅
OMG, just read a sample of Emily Wilson’s translation and loved it. Very moving. It was a portion of Book 11. Crazy that she is the first woman to publish an English translation. I would have figured she’s like the 100th or so. Sad that. We need to change that moving forwards I think.
I have to read the odyssey now for school and I’m honestly glad bc I miss watching your vids daily after watching all your illiad videos ❤️
❤️❤️❤️

Hahahaha entirely possible!!!!
I took it as dangerous as well. If swords came out not many good outcomes for her and her son.
