- After leaving Guatemala and coming over the border, the first city you come to in El Salvador is Santa Ana, which is the second largest city in the country. Most backpackers when they are travelling through Central America, will avoid El Salvador or maybe stay for 1 night somewhere, before going straight to either north to Guatemala or South to Honduras or Nicaragua. As an older backpacker, I want to take my time and see each and every country to experience what it has to offer, so I arrived in Santa Ana to explore the city as much as I can. The hostel I stayed in provided me with everything a backpacker needs, a comfortable bed, an awesome social area, a fully fitted kitchen that every backpacker needs and the owner spoke perfect English. Hostal Natural is definitely somewhere you should stay and can be found on Hostelworld. www.hostelworld.com
I was wowed by the shopping mall where I needed to get contact lenses as my 6 month supply had run out and then entering the 'historical' centre, I was a little bit disappointed but it still had it's charm. I used Uber to get around as it is so cheap, and don't use the local taxis as they will assume you are American and rich and will charge you a lot more!
As I'm backpacking for a year, my budget is small which makes buying coffee a luxury, if you follow me and would like to treat me to a coffee then follow this link and it would be much appreciated:

Crossing the border from Guatemala into El Salvador was done by local buses and I saved so much money. If you are adventurous and want to follow the route, check out my previous video:

I am an older backpacker travelling the world for a year to prove that travelling is for all ages and not just for the young.

Santa Ana IS MY PLACE , WELCOME TO MY COUNTRY MR.
great video
Thanks!
Enjoy your time in that little piece of land Salvadorans call home, we welcome friends and all people that want to see our land, now more than ever that is the safest in all Latin America. Have fun getting to know around and spread the word.
I've only been here for a couple of days in El Salvador and I will be seeing lots more of your country :)

Hey there, 👋🏽
Sadly, That big market you tried to visit was just destroyed by a big fire 🔥 last year.
It was called: Mercado central
Oh wow, I didn't realise. I tried to find out what happened to the market online but there was nothing. Thank you for letting me know my friend.
You found the Sunderland of America 🤣🤣
I would say Summerland perhaps 😜.
