  • Star Trek: Insurrection certainly is a movie with Star Trek people in it. Honestly, it was hard to see much other than the sins in this one.
Thursday: Superhero sins from the '90s.
Remember, no movie is without sin. Which movie's sins should we count next?

4:50 the most confusing part that should be sinned here isn't that Picard comes up with an earth song that Worf dosen't know or composers that Worf dosen't know, but the fact that Worf should be kind of familiar with them since he grew up with humans since he was a little kid.

The only sin I’m going to go against is the one about the transport inhibitors. In numerous TNG episodes, both inhibitors and extenders had to be set at the correct angles from each other to work correctly, so carrying them wouldn’t work unless you had multiple copies of Data doing so.
Still sinnable though, since they could’ve explained that in the movie, would’ve taken 30 seconds.
“Transport inhibitors have been placed around the town”
“Why can’t we take them with us and protect ourselves if they try to transport us mid hike?”
“The inhibitors require being precisely 35 degrees apart, that wouldn’t be possible to maintain while on the move”
Also, if you notice during the trip they do have inhibitors set up along the trail, though they shouldn’t work based on previous Treksplanations…

    • @TrexelCat
      @TrexelCat 10 месяцев назад +3

Little boy who has shown incredible mental discipline that is learning to like Data: "Why can't we carry them with us?"
Data: "The inhibiters must remain stationary to provide maximum disruption. If we carry them with us, it will cause the field to fluctuate at an unacceptable level and allow the sensors of the ships to gain locks on us."
Transport inhibitors are basically sensor jammers. They obscure the targeting sensors of the transporter enough that most transporter safety systems will prevent the actual beaming. You know, to prevent beaming up half a person. A thoron generator does this rather nicely(old Maquis trick). Inside the confines of an enclosed starship the inhibitor can be mobile and still work as the enclosed space contains the particles used to mask the signature. In the open air though, the generators would most likely need to remain stationary to provide adequate coverage for the masking effect. The computer needing to calculate the surrounding environment to produce the correct level of field while using as little power as possible to do it. Could just manually set them to max and walk around with them, but they would probably burn out after a few minutes to an hour.
This is just speculation though as the inhibitors are never actually explained on how they work. I'm just putting together information that makes the most sense to me.

I've been a huge Trek fan since about 4 years old, and always hated the concept of the Prime Directive. It's a plot point that seldom pays off, while being a terrible generalisation that takes no interest in nuance. They either blatantly violate it without reprimand, spend a single line of dialogue justifying why it doesn't apply, or pull out some deus ex machina that allows them to not face the moral implications. It's an important part of Starfleets identity, but it's one of a few points where the Federations "utopia" ends up looking rather dystopian.

The Admiral "I am doing something secretive, highly illegal, with a criminal organisation, inside Federation space. I know should be kept quiet as much as possible."
Then invites the one crew in all of Star Fleet that has arrested more Admirals and stopped more secret plans than any crew since Captain Kirk.

5:20 Worf's "no" head shake is priceless - and probably how many felt about watching this movie. (I admit it ranks higher for me than Nemesis, but not by much. I'll still watch it, though.)

I think it's funny the "love interest" for Picard in this movie is never really mentioned again other than a casual mention about Picard using the enterprise for a booty call by Shaw in Picard season 3 then at some point after said booty call he would have been with Beverly then later on his maybe yes maybe no with the housekeeper and people call Kirk the playboy of the stars

Drawing Riker's beard in every scene after it freaked out Cinema Sins has me ded.
Also I love the callback to Picard's girlfriend here by Shaw in Picard Season 3. Nice to know that even though this movie wasn't that well liked it's still part of ST lore.
