FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this adaptation of Ian Fleming's 1955 novel, James Bond (Roger Moore) must thwart Sir Hugo Drax (Michel Lonsdale), who plans to wipe out all of humankind and replace it with a super race that he has cultivated in a massive space station. The girl in the case is American secret agent Holly Goodhead, intelligently played by Lois Chiles. "Jaws," the steel-mouthed henchman played by Richard Kiel in The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), makes a return appearance in Moonraker, turning good guy (complete with a girlfriend of his own) in the process. Bernard Lee makes his last appearance as "M" in this most costly of James Bond's 1970s escapades.

No CGI here folks. One of the best stunts ever done for a Bond Film. I remember watching this in the Theater and the audience was totally blown away by this opening.
Coins Most movies dodn't have proper Cgi until 90's. Cgi until then was just some effects and backscreen animations.
Coins it’s called stunt men used stunt men to perform the action scenes. Richard Kiel and Roger Moore had their own stunt men. Moore had a stunt double who performed the action scenes for him and if he was running or anything it was a stunt double.
@Big Chap No, this one is superior.
Too bad Moore didn’t do much of his own stunts
I so prefer these awesome Bond stunts to CGI....
For a 1979 movie, this scene absolutely shocked and amazed me
This is nothing, they made Major Kong ride a nuclear bomb in Dr. Strangelove, and that was all the way back in 1964
(yes this is a joke)
Hello nice to meet you all if ok
@@ArjunKumar-yd3ni With huge cameras of the time, I suppose.
@@xmlthegreat If you have to clarify that you were telling a joke, then it ruins the joke.
@@AlexGeek No, huge cameras would have broken the cameraman's neck upon deploying the parachute. This scene was actually shot with state of the art small cameras. There's a documentary about it on the Blu Ray for Moonraker.
as silly as Roger Moores bonds were, he did have the best ever unique stunts of all time. Loved his films so much!
123. Movie
His movies also had the best theme and love songs.
@@clemsonbloke For Your Eyes Only! The best bond theme imo. :)
I dont think more was silly at all....he just brought his own unique style to the role and that's what made him special....
Alex D similar To M:I Fallout
Jean-Pierre Castaldi is in this film for barely a minute yet has two of the greatest lines in Bond history:
"This is where we leave you Mr Bond" and "Enjoy your flight" 💪
An amazing scene. No wonder it took 88 jumps to film the entire free-fall sequence.
ChrisJ092 really??? 88 jumps😵
I used to skydive in the 80s and 90s so yes I believe it took 88 jumps to film. Tom cruise did 100 jumps to film one scene in his last film.
Wow I didn't realize that! That's unreal amazing
@Old Iron Sounds like you made a few jumps also. I started in Taunton Ma. and then Woodstock Ct. Great memories. I have a commercial license now and would love to find a job flying jumpers.
@@masterm537 de la ciudad de la vida 1357902
No boring, unnecessary backstory, no obsession with previous films. Just fun action and amazing stunt work.
Moonraker is one of the most entertaining Bond films in the series . Sure, a lot of it is silly , but I must say the opening sequence in this film has got to be one of the most exciting ever!!
My favorite of Moore's 007 outing
Love Jaws just coming out of nowhere. Definitely for me the most memorable and enjoyable Bond intro. Still looks impressive 40 years on.
Donald Dewar you can see Jaws sitting in cockpit when the pilot shoots the controls
but they had to ruin this excellent scene with dumb slpastick
Timeless!
great scene none no better but they ruined it with jaws ripping his cord and flapping his wings and falling into a tent stupid and silly slapstick other than that greatest opening then comes the spy who bugged me with the skiing stunt then for your eyes only with the helicopter octopussy not bad with the little plane but moonraker is amazing the rest of the film almost like a live action road runner cartoon
He turned his back knowing there was a hot steward ........ I mean Flight Attendant still on board.
Rest in peace, Roger Moore :(
And Jaws Lol
Don't forget Sean Connery RIP 😭
My god has it been that long
Hello nice to meet you all if ok
Seeing this in the cinema in '79 as a 10 year old, my little face lit up as soon as the Bond theme kicks in
I was 10 too. Loved it!!
Bond did it 39 years before mission impossible fallout
😎
Tom Cruise did it himself
Wasn't there a similar stunt in Eraser?
Moonraker is far from being the best Bond film, but that is definitely one of the best intros in the entire series.
It’s honestly top five for me
💯,that's what I always said, not that good a movie prolly the best stunt besides goldeneye
Totally agree, still holds up as one of the best cold opens. Never get tired of seeing it.
@@codyt821 My understanding is that a large part of that was filmed with stunt men actually skydiving. I hope they didn't need more than one take. Am I correct about that, or is it all blue screen? of course there was no CGI in those days.
i feel like im part of a minority but when ever someone say this movie ia bad, it’s automatically my favorite among the rest of bond movies, hell even Mission impossible 2 is my fav among the newer ones
Truly one of best Bond opening sequences. If I recall correctly, Jaws landed on a circus tent lol
Still Amazing even over 40 years later.... I saw this in a documentary on Moonraker This particular scene took over 80 Parachute jumps just to get it right they even had to "invent a smaller lightweight film camera for the parachutist who filmed this .
it has been already filmed in 1965 the first time last scene of " Fantomas se dechaine" french movie 1965 and moonraker theme " flight into space" is also a copy of michel magne "ma chere helene"
it took five months to shoot this particular sequence. amazing. Back when bond films were truly BONDING
PRASHANTH SVR Five months?!
@fiae42 either way that’s impressive
the best pre-credit sequence in Bond history
Its a close second to the spy who loved me opening sequence.
Don't forget Goldeneye
What about On her majesty secret service??
@@tangoandcars9588 with all due respect Goldeneye's pre title sequence was kind of tame, and the CGI used for the plane stunt was plain awful
I have to say it goes to For Your Eyes Only I'm sure it is, when Bond picks up Blofeld in his wheelchair and dumps him down the factory chimney.. Cracked me up when I was a kid 😂
I loved how Jaws tried to fly by flapping his arms!
Even the doomed henchman seems to be giving it a go, perhaps an expression of panic.
Even funnier that it actually worked - he hit the big top and survived
Ah... I needed that :)
After watching No Time To Die, I needed to remind myself that Bond moves used to fun.
This was the first James Bond movie I’ve watched, and after watching this scene I was obsessed with the series.
Same here.
This, the Goldeneye Opening, and the Goldfinger Opening sequence are my favorites in this series. RIP Sir Roger. You are gone but never forgotten with all your Bond films preserved forever.
These are the best Bond movies the right mixture of humor and action
They cut out the scene were Jaws starts flapping his arms like a bird!
Pause at 1:56. Roger Moore managed to acquire a set of goggles and a new face
Also at 2:39 Jaws has a new face with normal teeth and a straight hairline.
I hope you didn't expect 52-year old Roger Moore to do one of the craziest stunt in cinema history.
TheFieldman Fortunately, they used rear projections with Moore and Kiel a very few times only. You can see the difference immediately.
TheFieldman Roger Moore had a stunt double and it was one of mistakes shown on camera that can see the stunt doubles face and the googles
Love how they didn't even care about having the stunt doubles faces in close ups lol.
Ha ha - Another example is the close up of the guy who drives the split-in-half car during the Paris scene in "A View to a Kill" it is so blatantly not Roger Moore
Inr. In one closeup Bond is wearing goggles.
In the fight where Bond took the parachute they did good work to hide the stuntmans faces
RIP Roger Moore and Richard 'Jaws' Kiel.
Imagine a 12 year-old watching his first James Bond film and this was the first scene...blown away!
It wasn't the first scene: The Moonraker being stolen was.
No matter how many times I see this one scene I feel terrified. Every single time.
Not one of my favourite Bond movies, but one of the best Bond intros! No CGI, just amazing straight stunt work 👌🏼
Moonraker is a thoroughly enjoyable film, in my opinion every bit as good and memorable as it’s predecessor
Classic Bond. Sir Roger is the best Bond ever.
He was meant originally to be Bond even before Connery but he had a TV show at the time and he couldn't get out of the contract.
We should probably decide first what we look for in Bond. If it is humour, class and suavity then Roger Moore is our man, if it is brawn, muscle, roughness around the edges than it's Craig. Personally I go for the former.
Sean Connery is the classic Bond
I must of seen this hundreds of times, but only just noticed you can see Jaws in the cockpit. I'd always wondered where he was hiding during the rest of the flight.
In the toilet
When?

Hello nice to meet you all if ok
I love how you never know who these villains are and why Jaws is suddenly on the scene. Just another day in the life of James Bond.
I can tell you that lots of people saw Moonraker multiple times in the theater for this stunt alone.
I love how the first thing that jaws does when he catches up to bond is go for the bite lol
One of the coolest stunts in a James Bond movie!
Imagine the terror of that pilot as he was kicked away, knowing you have no chance to reach bond again, to die that way after being so close to succeeding, the scream was perfect as was the angry howl of despair.
I laughed at his scream but got to admit I would of sounded the same falling that far.
Yeah he has a long time to contemplate what just happened as well.
@@sirfijoe450 Not really. I think I read someplace a person would pass out after a few moments, so he would have been spared having to experience the whole ordeal.
The screams of terror were real- as no one told the stuntman that he wouldn't be getting a parachute...
James Bond movies are easily the best series of movies ever to be created in my opinion !!!
Now that's a real bond movie
The fantastic stuntwork in this film was phenomenal and never gets enough recognition..just pure magical edge of your seat practical stunts..no CGI or anything..i love these older bond films and the superb stunt people made them even better...
it has been already filmed in 1965 the first time last scene of " Fantomas se dechaine" french movie 1965 and moonraker theme " flight into space" is also a copy of michel magne "ma chere helene"
Rest in peace Sir Roger Moore and Richard Kiel legends never die
Sir Roger Moore has the love songs and the music
Hard to believe "Moonraker" was 40 years ago.
Back in those days , they certainly knew how to make a movie !
Love James line, a little premature isn't it ? Hahahaha LOL !!!!😂😂😂
Would've been better if it were preceded with "This is where you get off, Mr. Bond"
Roger Moore did a great job in Moonraker and in the James Bond films❤️❤️😎😉😊😍😍!! We will miss Roger Moore 😢😥😭 RIP !!
Everything that makes a bond film a bond film in one scene.
As a kid this absolutely rocked me.
Gotta love those pilot's shades that still stay on even after getting some punches to the face.
Probably the greatest pre=credit sequence in movie history!
Wow.... What an amazing opening! I was in my mid-teen when I watched Moonraker in Rio de Janeiro. The audience was very excited (you can imagine!!!) when the Sugar Load Mountain showed in the big screen ! Rio, see you soon ! 🌞⛱
My grandfather took me to see this movie when I was 5 years old. I thought this part was the coolest thing I'd ever seen, when the music starts playing and he dives after the other guy.
I ended up falling asleep later, but I always remembered this scene.
Love it when jaws trys to pull his chute and rips the cord out then trys flapping his arms to fly.
Maybe I am afraid of heights and falling, so this explains my reaction. But I found this to be an emotionally intense scene. I could feel the blood sink to my feet.
1:10 Barry drops his improved rendition of the main theme
i also love the cue at 1:52. It gets a bit dramatic.
2:08 *chills* that music
I smiled from start to finish....can any modern bond movie achieve that...
2:53 - What happens when your parachute is made in China
For years I always thought Jaws was the stewardess in disguise
Jaws had 'some issues' back then
Wondering what happened to her. Did she parachute?
@@TonyMontana-qv8cx I think she . . . went down with the ship.
At 0.15, she gets a parachute.
@@YDDES but we dont see her jump
I must have watched this terrific scene dozens of times, and it's only just occurred to me that they had to cheat on the parachute rig design to make it feasible for Bond to wrestle the parachute away from the bad guy and put it on himself.
In reality, all parachute harnesses are fitted with leg straps that fit around the top of the thighs, passing under the crotch. If they weren't, the wearer would almost certainly slide downwards out of the harness during or after deployment. You can see the leg straps on Jaws' parachute rig at 2:22.
The dummy prop rig in this sequence has no leg straps, since once tightened they would have made it practically impossible to transfer the rig from one person to the other in freefall.
For the shot where you see Bond deploying the parachute, I assume they used a properly configured harness with the leg straps concealed under the stuntman's trousers.
We’re I that Pilot, as soon as Bond grabbed me in midair I would have pulled my ripcord.
Saw this at the cinema in Cambridge I was so scared of Jaws in this movie that for several days every time I heard a propeller plane at night I thought he was parachuting down to get me (I lived about 4 miles from London Stansted). Not sure how old I was but the movie came out in late 70's early 80's and I was born in '73. Here I am trying to justify being scared of a character in a movie. Truth be told I had bad dreams about Jaws, now and again for decades!
RIP Roger Moore
Danny Kay He Ain't Dead😤😑😑 Come On Nah?!
He really is, so sorry.....
Aaron Brooks he passed away on May 23rd 2017 at age of 89 due to complications of cancer
@@aaronbrooks1020 im sorry- but unfortunatley- he- he is dead. 😥
Along with Sean Connery the first James bond died RIP (1930-2020)
They don't make em like this anymore.
If you’re referring to the stunts, they
cost too much money unfortunately my friend. This particular scene cost a lot to film, and movie makers these days would rather save money by using CGI nonsense instead of actually paying stunt men to perform stunts. The movie though was awesome, totally over the top and reminiscent of the 60’s Bond films, I wish the Bonds films were more like this
actually CGI would be rather more expensive than actual practical work. both needs a big team to do (stunt team and cinematography or VFX artist groups) but stunts are very elaborate to make and take time and much effort. CGI is easier to achieve nowadays and it can look better, depending on the VFX crew and the cinematographers and the money of course
Tom Cruise literally did this from a much higher altitude 2 years ago. Your statement is false.
NavidIsANoob he means the bond movies aren’t made like this anymore
wouldn't be acceptable anymore, the hero pulling off amazing stunts, must be a woman, or black.
Pause at 1:57. Still love this tho, probably one of the best stunts in all of bond history including the new-era bond
Same stunt guy as in the Octopussy scene on the Twin Beech, I believe.
In addition to the spectacular stunts and great comedy Moonraker had one of John Barry's most beautiful Bond scores.
Have you noticed that in all these Bond movies the villian could have killed Bond very easily, but they come up with such complicated methods to achieve it.
I guess that is what attracted us to these films
Bond bad guys are sadistic a-holes, and that's why he consistently beats them.
Many of the villains are often shown despatching others with considerable ease, but when it comes to Bond, they can't commit a simple murder without cocking it up.
I am absolutely blown away.
I watched this just the other day. It was one of my favorite bond films as I was studying aerospace engineering at the time and soon after joined the US Air Force. The Jaws character was great. Now I enjoy the Man with the Golden Gun because I have been to Thailand many times and enjoy seeing the old footage
I first saw this movie during my elementary days,I think that was in 85 or 86.superb and d best, one of the most exciting bond movie!
A classic Bond action sequence. No CGI, no shaky cam, no crash editing, made real by stunt men doing all these amazing stunts. Roger Moore portrays the role of gentleman's spy with class and sophistication. Now we have a blonde Bond who's having identity crisis. He doesn't know whether he's Bourne/Statham/Ramboo or whatever.
Possibly my favourite Bond film. Definitely in the Top 3 for me so far (I’ve not seen all 24). What an iconic opening!
OMG I thought that "Point Break" was the first movie to do this stunt. Now I see that they ripped off "Moonraker"!!!
Hero3128 EXACTLY, 13 years before Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze did their thing
Ripped off or inspired... Huge difference.
Only Sir Roger could keep calm and composed whilst plummeting to the ground without a parachute.
'74 to '85 were the best Bond films...... RIP Sir Roger.....nobody does it better
Best opening to a bond movie.. the stunt guy actually looks like Roger Moore. Just fantastic.
You can see how the aerodynamic force on Roger makes him look like a stunt double.
I'm so glad Movieclips have decided to do James Bond films instead of just a few clips from various films, and this is one of my favourites! Thank you Movieclips! :)
BJ Worth, Ron Luginbill, Don Caltvedt, Jake Lombard, Rande de Luca. Legends in the sport. Some are retired, some are departed, some are still jumping. Fantastic job. Hats off to all of you!
Had a "youngster" come up to me a few years ago and ask -- "So you've jumped ROUNDS?!?" I guess you have, too. Blue Skies!
Clip ends before Jaws drops in at the circus! A bit premature, isn't it?!!
I really can't get over this scene....
This for me is the best Bond opening sequence by some margin. Great movie score and stunning cinematography.
RIP SIR ROGER
0:16 so you have a gun pointed at Bond…and you shot the controls instead of shooting him right there.
I love how at 1,11 the Bond theme kicks in......
I remember watching this in the movie theater with my twin brother. We have a similar sense of humor so we laughed our a***s off it was so over the top and so much fun! 😂 What an opening scene! I still remember it fondly!
This is such an iconic scene whenever I think of a good bond scene this is one of the ones I think of
One of best james bond movie opening...... Love it....
This is one of the spectacular opening scenes. I am impressed that Bond has the time after being pushed out of the plane to chase the henchman, grab hold of him, fight him for the backpack, put it on and get it secured, get grabbed by Jaws, and only then deploy the chute, whilst still appearing to be thousands of feet above the ground. If the plane was flying at 15,000 feet, it would only take about a minute and a half to hit the ground after jumping.
Just an action movie, just Hollywood, just to have fun a little while even if it's silly
The miracle of suspension of disbelief.
Tears of joy, and love for the true Age of Great Cinema.

Rest In Peace Sir Roger Moore. You will always be my favorite James Bond. :( 1928-2017. :(
He was born in 1927 not 1928
This is still one of the best scenes ever and also, best Bond movies because of this. Cheers...
Awesome scene. One of my favorite Bond scenes of all time. You can CLEARLY see the cuts between actor and Stunt Doubles though. Usually their faces are blurred more during close ups, but not here lol
1979 no CGI still love to watch that movie 😍This is Hollywood 💓
Amazing stuff!!! It's all real, no stupid CGI like today!!!
What I love is those opening two lines of hers and then Roger’s absolute calmness even when faced with such odds.
Unarmed, in a plane, trashed instruments and no parachute.
I think this may be Moore’s best outing as Bond in spite of some of the silliness of the film itself.
I bet everyone in the theatre gasped in shock when jaws appeared
I'd get so dizzy spinning in multiple directions. My brain would tap out.
I love the part after this when he was talking to Money Penny. "I fell out of an airplane without a parachute. You don't believe me do you?' 🤣🤣🤣
Best ever movie clip. 40 years ago now.
Roger Moore was very popular as Bond. I grew up with him in the 70's. He did an enjoyable Bond with his sense of humour and he looked the part more than most. Production values of the Bonds he did I think are still the best for me. I prefer him to Daniel Craig . Roger is so naturally swarve , cool , debonair etc. RIP Roger miss you loads.
*1:01** It's like Tom and Jerry that, lmao.*
