  • Small Fiat BATTLE! Turin was producing some of the best small cars around back the late 1990s and early 2000s, but is the little and lithe Seicento or boxy practical Panda best? There's only one way to find out...

I love the panda’s, I recently bought the new cross version and have had many of my neighbours in their big flash BMW’s and mercs laughing. That soon stopped when we recently had floods and they broke down in a major flooded road not far from where I live. I just ploughed through the water in the cross and had the last laugh 😁 . Great channel by the way, just subbed 👍

I used to dream of an affordable three car garage that consists of a cinquecento sporting, as the sport car, a panda 4x4, as the off road one and a lancia Y10, as the luxury car. Yes I am a fire engine, small italian car fanboy. As for the choice between the seicento and the panda, I would have gone with the seicento again.

  • @FuelPower

I love my Panda 100hp. The FIRE does love to be revved out to get the best out of it and it is incredibly fun but the noise, oh the induction noise with the exhaust note is just 😍 I do like the Seicento as a car but can't say much on it as never owned nor driven one to date though I do kind of see them like the Classic Mini, small, light, a wheel in each corner so great handling, seats 4 but you wouldn't want to for massively long trips etc.

  • @LOUISJB7
    @LOUISJB7 3 года назад +1

There was no direct replacement for the Seicento. The Palio, Panda & 500 all took the small city car slot. Cinquecento translates to 500 & Seicento translates to 600. Panda & 500 are very similar apart from the body shell, even the floor plans the same. We use a panda at work and they’re surprisingly roomy!

    Hi Miller !!!
    ....
The Fiat Seicento was the "Super Mini" that never was !!!
    ....
And now due to it's age they kinda hit buyer resistance for that reason !!!
    ....
Wouldn't the concept back then have been amazing if people "customized" them by adding quality extras to the interior such as extra sound proofing, quality carpet overlays ,
sawed inserts , and "creature comforts" like a vacuum gauge , a rev counter, and a quality speaker system to add to the stereo ???
    ....
Miller they look as if they would drive and sound "shabby" when the noise levels and power output is almost like an old Volvo !!!
    .....
They really are fantastic little cars (to say the least) !!!!!
    ....
    THANKS FOR READING !!!

Fun fact: In 2006 fiat produced an experimental hydrogen fuel cell fiat panda called the panda hydrogen or hydro for short.
And in 2007 fiat took two 4x4 pandas and prepared it for dakar where they got to the fourth stage whilst being simply modified versions of the production variant.

@@MillerCorner yeah!! Maybe that could be your next project, if I was given a modern panda I’d either spec it out with hydraulics for disabled buyers and sell it on as a practical small wheel chair friendly car. These sell for quite a lot over their used car prices and would be a great way to give the car a new purpose as some older or less fortunate financially people can’t afford newer or grander cars for this. An off-road pandakar would be really cool but id still have to go for the 74 panda as it’s just lighter and more mechanical.

my mate had a Sei Sporting, was honestly one of the most terrifying car's I've driven.. mostly cuz when you brake it veered widely to the left and then suddenly Right, but it felt faster than its 55hp would suggest. I've always been a Honda fan myself, but Fiat does some cars that I absolutely love like the 20v Coupe and the original Panda 4x4.

Well there was the 141 which was the Mk 1 and the 141a which was the Mk 2. I had a 1988 Super as my first car, and I drove that like an Italian, which resulted in the combustion chambers on cylinders 3 and 4 becoming one. Got a 1993 Super after that, added a Cinquecento Sporting top end that had a DIY port job, and found the K&N air filter for a Ford Fiesta XR2 bolted straight on. The needle went past the top speed of 100 after that. Was going to fab an exhaust with a cherry bomb backbox to complement the intake mods, but there was too much rust by then, so went off to other things after that. Still got a soft spot for little Italian cars, though!

Apart from the alloys I have the very same car as your Mother. I've had it 2 years and put 15k on it (now 105k) and I love the little car, it suits my needs perfectly and is great even 4 up, even on the motorway, averaging 45 mpg overall. The only real bugs that annoy are no 12v outlet and the sunvisors are huge, being 6 ft tall they block the windscreen but apart from that no complaints.

Yup, far as I know the 1.1s are the only ones with a throttle cable (mine has one anyway!). 1.2 and up is fly by wire iirc. If you boot the throttle in mine from a stop you can get a bit of wheelspin! They really are a lot more practical than you'd think, I've camped in mine, moved big furniture (including a double bed, frame and mattress in one go!) and helped people move house with it. The genuine roof rack is a must too IMO, looks great on it! With all the stuff I've put in (sound deadening, good stereo+sub, etc...) it's not bad on the motorway either, decent for long journeys, although it does die a bit on hills.

    • @sheepdog8442

My old 96 Lancia Y had a throtle cable. I think all Weber central injections did. I think no 169 panda got weber and throtle cable. And yes the cable makes it so much more responsive then my Stilo fire1.2 16v.
