- In this tutorial you will learn how to root Samsung Galaxy S6 Lite /SM P610 with Magisk
I will show you the full process of the rooting procedure, starting with unlocking the bootloader then flashing it using Odin from your pc and then setting up the Magisk software on the android tablet. this will work on android OS9 or 10 and Samsung One UI 1.5 or 2.1
What you will need
- PC
- USB for the tablet
Warning:
- Rooting your device carries risk of bricking your device
- Voids your warranty
- Disables Samsung Knox security
If you do decide to carry on, please follow instructions carefully and at your own risk

Hope this video helps those of you who want to root your android 10 with pc computer, tutorial should work on Samsung galaxy tab s7 plus, s6 and others you have to download the specific rom for that device and follow the tutorial same as this one.
If anyone is confused, at 6:49 please drag the new Tar file you created to the tablet, I know in the video I drag an Img file from another window but this was due to not being able to record the correct method that I figured out later
Please follow this instruction that I am telling you instead of what you can see in the video, other than that part the rest of the video you can follow normally
any other issues please let me know.
Hey I'm having an issue towards the very end of your tutorial. I've followed all of your steps (I think), and the device I'm rooting is also the S6 lite. At the step on 8:35 where I am supposed to initiate the flashing process, when I click on start nothing happens...odin instantly completes and says " All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0) ". Any idea what I'm doing wrong???

INFO: DO NOT change file extension use 7zip to compress to .tar , and thats worked for me
WARNING TO READER COMING HERE THE FIRST TIME: This is my 3rd edit after 3 days of trials & errors. Hope this is the last. As of 2022-02-21, rooting a Tab S6 Lite, must be done by flashing a boot.img patched by Magisk 24.1 (older version may work but I didn't try). This is what this video guide shows. As such, make 100% sure to update your Android to latest before attempting the operation.
If you use Linux, assuming you know how to use adb, configure udev with Samsung idVendor=04e8. Install tools "sudo apt install heimdall-flash liblz4-tool". Flashing a patched boot.img boils down to this "adb reboot download" to enter Download mode. Then flash the patched boot.img by "heimdall flash --no-reboot --BOOT magisk_patched-24100_xxxxx.img". Power off by "Power+VolDown" for 7 secs. Power on and wait for 2,3 reboot cycles and the device will enter recovery mode with the option to Factory Data Reset. The method of unlocking bootloader and how to patch the original boot.img is identical than in the video (except that there is no need to do any file renaming when using Linux tools).
Once rooted, your Android system update will no longer be possible. If you want to update to latest Android, even the guide written by the Magisk author will NOT work: topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/install.html#samsung-system-as-root. I did it and the device will be stuck in Download mode with message "Odin Mode (AVB Fail) vbmeta: Error verifying vbmeta image: HASH_MISMATCH (3)". The correct way to update your Android is: reflash the latest stock firmware using Odin 3.14.4+, which will remove the root. But the bootloader will still remains unlocked. Then you repeat the procedure in this video guide again to flash the patched boot.img. Good lucks.
At 9.15 where the tablet should normally started, mine goes wrong and repeat the android screen

The step a 6:49 is unclear and i kept doing it wrong. Make sure you drag the .tar file onto the tablet, not the disk image “boot” file… for some reason in your video you are dragging over the disk imagine file and that caused me trouble all night until i decided to try and drag the newly created .tar file. For anyone having trouble try that
Yes that was an issue due to bad editing and recording on my part, the problem was I only recorded the incorrect method and not the correct method I figured out like an hour later and when it came to making the video I didn't have the correct footage of transferring the tar file, so I used a previous clip instead since there was not much else I can do.
I was hoping people would go by what I say instead of what I showed.
I will probably put up a pinned note to explain for new viewers tho but I'm glad you still got it to work man.

In case someone gets stuck on 8:25 (Odin not detecting the device): YOU HAVE TO HAVE ODIN OPEN WHEN YOU ENTER DOWNLOAD MODE. I got stuck there and fixed it by rebooting the tablet and entering download mode with Odin opened. Thanks for the video.

This work on the s8 + tablet ? I have the oem unlock toggled on..wifi model i have , was suprised i had it. Toggled it on, then updated to newest firmwares and it is still there.. bought new sealed on ebay 450

That’s because it access files and changes them that’s why it shows that and because the download files aren’t signed

Hello, thank you for the tutorial. Everything is fine until Odin. Odin does not detect my tablet in download mode. Changed the cable, the usb port, try using different usb drivers with Zadig, nothing is working. Does anymore had the same issue and how did you solved it?

@@RRits57 are you using the right “boot.tar” file? Make sure your not using the old boot file and that your using the new one

Fairly certain this just completely bricked my tablet. I followed everything to a T and it is currently cycling through restarting over and over and showing the booting screen with the red error text on it and then automatically restarting over and over again.
Thank you so much! I used this to root a Tab S7+. I looked at a handful of sites and youtubes with no luck - there was always a hang-up of some sort. This bipassed the TWRP, though I'd still like to flash that if anyone can point me in the right direction. Maybe now that I'm rooted I'll have better luck? Thanks again!!!!!!!
hi, i managed with your video to root my device,in date 05/03/2024,i follow the steps the you suggest in the comment about the min 6:49, in the end i had a bug that didn't make me appear the magisk(with the image of the android) icone, and a managed to solve it by downloading again the magisk.apk, and in the end i did the upgrade. Hi! Will rooting solve the "this app is causing overheating and will be closed in 20 seconds" annoying warning? I'm just running 2 apps with my s6 lite on DEX mode and I cant use this tablet for online exams for school if it keeps shutting down apps when getting even slightly hot.
You might have to take it to mail it to Samsung because that could possibly be a malfunction in like the process of it being made or something like that or you can like put the ice pack on the back of your tab
can you please tell me how you renamed the magisk file to boot.tar at 8:20 ?
You can rename using right click and rename option or just double clicking the icon name

Eigentlich geht nichts schief, wenn ja einfach bei bootloop alle vier Daten einsetzen und nochmal von vorne anfangen. ging bei mir auch schon schief, bin ja erst bissl fortgeschritten geworden was termux betrifft, ist aber erst später wichtig. Sogar WLAN Passwort sind anzeigbar unter los.
Magisk Icon einfach nochmal installieren danach geht's automatisch weiter.
For the renaming step of the patched file to boot.tar it is still saying file type is disc image, when I try to open it on the AP slot of odin it can not find it? Please help!

I have the problem with a Tab S6 Lite, it is in bootloop and does not let me enter the recovery mode, I can go into download mode and I flashed the latest original firmware Android11, Android10 etc., . I tried them all but always goes in bootloop, and also the bootloop occurs only if I connect the usb cable to the PC, without any sign of life. Do I still have hopes or have I compromised the motherboard?
I did everything right, only that the guide was with Android10, while I had Android11 and I was deceived by the fact that in the title of the guide there was written "guide 2021", so I did not check the compatibility of operating systems, I was a fool, I know, I hope so much that I did nothing irretrievable, it is my son's tablet!

Please tell me when is the original boot.tar used? (6:49) after “add to archive” click and rename boot.tar, and then new file(boot.tar) is created.
Yes after adding the boot file to a Tar archive you would move it to the tablet for it to be patched using the Magisk app and then follow the instructions as stated, hope this helps.

Are you sure you followed all the instructions?
Does it boot normally but the only thing missing is the magisk app? if so then maybe you didn't patch the boot file with magisk app as can be seen on 6:48

Everything goes right except for the last part where i wipe data and factory and reset and then reboot , magisk still doesn’t appear says pass in odin
You are using android 12 right? That could be the case. You might want to see my tutorial on rooting this tab on android 12.
If not, try to re install magisk manager apk and see if it is installed.

Dont bother followed every step verbatim and to no prevail like all the rest. Youl hard reset your phone twice and download unessesary files on your PC. Waist of time and data.
I'm in the process of doing this root for my Galaxy Tab S6 Lite but I don't have the OEM Unlock option in the Developers menu. Anyone has a fix on this?

I cannot get LZ4 to generate the lz4 boot.img.lz4 boot.img even with my malwarebytes disabled. Is there anyplace to get a clean copy of that file?

I was following a guide on xda and they never mentioned going into recovery mode after my tablet just kept failing to boot I was freaking out lol. I also tried following two guides at once one was using ADB commands and fast boot flashing did not work at all. Also I don't think I changed the boot to tar before using magisk so I don't think that step is required anymore.

Did you follow the tutorial fully? Only thing you can do is reflash the STOCK rom you dowloaded in the beginning and then try again

@@EMeedy I'd assume you use Odin and using the same steps from the video for flashing the patched boot file but for the stock boot file instead, that might work

I'm guessing 0x1/0x0 has to do with the flash count and also your device warranty right? it's something I wondered too as mine was bought only 2 weeks prior with warranty and I didn't want to void it

If u root, samsung forgives you the 1st time, after that no warranty on ur device (software based), NEVER TRIGGER KNOX

Yes at the time of filming I was on the latest Samsung UI firmware 3.1 which is based on Android 11

@@ejkim1077 Once you run that through Magisk, you never use it again. Magisk creates a new boot image and you use that from then on. You can delete the original.

After “add archive” (6:49), boot.tar was created. So I have “boot.img” and “boot.tar”. I am confused which of the two files should be moved to tablet.

I would appreciate some help. I followed everything but after pressing reboot system now, the tablet (same as the one in video) just keeps rebooting on a loop
It seems you like you may have wiped the whole OS from your device and as such have nothing to boot into, you may need to flash the stock firmware all over again and then try again
