"You're all gonna watch me disappear under the sun."
*She actually took that personally*
Periodt sis
solar power is coming
Now she's back with something from sun( solar power ಠᴥಠ)
and now we’re all gonna watch her come back to us into the sun
and now she literally is back LMFAO
this song is a fucking masterpiece.
All Ryan Leonards - go bang your head against that wall over there, you might get some good harmonics when your lack of appreciation for art leaks out of your empty skull.
I'm not all overly emotional but this song literally destroyed me
lowskye I was bawling during snl.
Gutx
pol awx It was influenced by Rihanna's song Higher
She performs like it's going to be her last time, every time.
She sounds like a retired opera singer singing alone on a empty stage with all her glory days behind her........ I love it lol

Because it is 😂

You could tell Jack was getting a little emotional by the end of the song. He did such a beautiful job on the keys. I just wanted to hug both of them.
Sharp Cheddar who is Jack? Whta is his full name? Is he a friend of Lorde’s?
@@claire9865 Jack antanoff, the guy playing the piano. He co-produced most of Melodrama.
You He’s also the main force behind Bleachers, and does songwriting and production for a lot of other pop artists like Taylor Swift.
Cool, thank you
wow i didn’t notice jack on the piano, she really stole the show
This girl reminds us that music is not always all about high notes and sweet melodies but our feelings. Dope song Lorde
Joel Stevy I really like her vocal range though. Usually in female singers a lot of them can't do the low notes that she does. Lorde has such a unique style and range, and also has good songs. That's really rare.
Joel Stevy yah
Definitely! The song brings, not just me, a lot of people emotion that they have felt at some point or at the moment. It's a fantastic song that relates to so many people. Well said
yas, well said 😭
The fuck your true joel stevy
"I wanted to look like a moth in the attic, dull, wrapped and floating. Something very sad dressed in white" - Lorde
thank god there was a reason cause that hat was so distracting omg
What a legend
where did she say that?
same tbh
Like a moth 😭😭😭
She's perfected her sound from when she first appeared. She has somehow combined a mature woman and a vulnerable teenage girl sound with her voice. Her voice is so unique.
She's speaking about her fears with being in the public eye-maybe in the beginning, people adore her and follow her music, but later get "bored" of her. She's afraid of being discarded- how many current pop singers share that? "The truth is I am a toy that people enjoy 'til all of the tricks don't work anymore." It's brutally honest and so compelling how she can tell her experience in such a visceral way. I love her.
Sarah Weller I thought of it more like friendships...
I don’t think she meant it that way though
It's a song that has a double meaning, or rather it says the same thing regarding her love relationships and her fame. Her fame got in the way of her relationship, her lover did not like how much success she had, as it made their relationship unbalanced. The excitement and freedom of her new life did not bode well with the extatic feeling of being in love. She was also angry, proud, jealous and possessive (the rest of the album). She also realized that she was the one to put the effort, as she compares herself to a toy people play with until they're bored. They like her quirkiness, her sensitivity and her art, but when she's depressed all of this reflects on her qualities in a negative way. Remember, there's love and then possessiveness. There's pride, and then there's ego. The same things but in a positive or negative light seem wildly different, but they come from the same place. Some people have a hard time recognizing love when it's expressed through anger or fear, which drives them away. I know what it feels like to see angry words come out from a place of love. She managed to understand that the problem lied in her inability to communicate her feelings in a healthy way, and her lover's inability to try to understand her.
But anyway... Put yourself in your lover's shoes once in a while, and you won't suffer like this, i guess. But also, never forget your worth. You're not a toy, you're a person. With your freedom and desires.
I might be two years late but anyways. Melodrama is a concept album revolving around one night at a party and this song means quite literally what it says. But yeah, you can interpret it that way I suppose.
this is a very wrong interpretation but I understand how you came about it. Lorde never wants to be a popstar, she says it all the time. it does seem to have that narrative, though. the album concept is a one-night party, "Liability" is introspective and intimate ≠ not her relationship with the public.
Who the hell would ever tell Lorde that she is a Liability??
😂
Her Ex
Písecký Patrik Someone on pure heroine.
I think a lot of people would. "I'm a little much for everyone" she says. Get too close to the sun and you might get burned.
Patrik Písecký hahaha I wonder the same ...
Maybe is just other situation in her life or a representation of other feeling '
Can't get over the "na na na na eh" part.
Raymond Alex In a good way or bad lol
Raymond Alex I love that part wtf
Steven Matthews I think he's saying he can't get over how much he loves it...
Raymond Alex best part
It's actually quite clever because the lines before it are all very emotional. So she just kind of pulls back their and says I ain't telling you anymore right now to her audience keeping a boundary there.
Jack Antoff did a really good job on the piano!
...and fucking her as well... she was the reason of why he broke up with Lena Dunham...
Ha! I'm sure he had MANY reasons for breaking up with douchey, look-at-me Lena Dunham.
yessicaflores79 he probably left her because of all the controversies Lena created😤
I would hope so since he wrote it!
No. I will not jack an ant off.
She doesn’t do high notes. She does low notes, beautiful writing, and amazing melodies.
Fuck she's so good
Jhanvi YJ yes ❤
Just what you would expect from David Bowie and Kate Bush's love child.
Very close to what I was going to say (OMG she's so fucking good).
fun fact: i saw lorde 2 months ago at a concert and she said she liked my hat lol

She uses imagery and dialog, like slides in a projector that present a coherent, clear story.
Its music, its audio theater. Bravo!
Bowie docet... :')
don't you mean... bravado?
taylorde ...no
she told you this was melodrama
So glad to see her evolve, she really worked on her live performances.
she did, i remember her voice being kinda weak when she would sing live, but she sounded good here.
Naïdé Bétis she was always good. only she is not dancing here.
I think back 4 years ago, she was super nervous when performing live because she was just a teenager from New Zealand. I vaguely remember her saying that she never really wanted to be famous or perform for crowds of people, but it just kind of happened.
She had the kinda cute voice crack tho.
+Naïdé Bétis Think she changed the way she sings in the studio. It's a little less polished, so she sounds more like the studio version when she sings live.
*When a singer/songwriter and her accompanist are in PERFECT unison emotionally, while harmonizing musically*
I watched this live and rewatch it at least once a week, especially after the most difficult days.
We love you, Ella, and look forward to your enduring art throughout our lives.
That comment was super creepy jeeves. Go outside. Say hi to a stranger. Shoplift. Stop crying and masterbating. Nobody is going to climb from your mirror and join you.
@@sandytony9035 LoL 😂
The accompanist was also the songwriter/producer of it.
@@gbutt3554 Lorde is the writer of the lyrics and melodies. Jack only produced it.
@@mountainrock7682 No, Jack was a lyricist.
such an incredible song!
Lizzy Hodgins it is indeed. Maybe you could cover it. You are very talented and beautiful. Carry on❤
Well I'm an old guy, at least when compared to the average Lorde fan, and I hear so many people of my generation say how the music today sucks. News flash; there's good and bad music in every era. Closing ones mind to what's out there just because it's "new" means they miss out on so many good things. This song, and specifically Lorde, are things I'm glad I didn't miss because of closed minded prejudiced.
Thank you Lorde.
+Cellar Door
I like her a lot. I came to know her late. She'd been out for a few years before I discovered her some time a couple of years ago. Real life gets in the way so it's hard sometimes to stay on top of these things. lol Anyway overall I think she's a great artist.
with you ACE..im an oldie myself ...and just love much of the new music ...spesh alternative ..not so into popular trash pop!
Ace of Knaves is it fine if I ask you for you're age? Im just curious as to what you think Lorde's target audience is... me personally I think it's any age
The relative value we place on art of any kind is subjective, and what sounds good to you may just sound like discordant noise to someone else. :)
People just don't think there's no shitty old music because shitty old music is never PLAYED.
somehow she sounds even better live?!? she's so amazing
IKR!!!
That’s how you know they’re one of the best artists! David Bowie was also better live!😆

The raw emotion. Not only in the lyrics or the piano, but her face as well.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is Talent™.
Sarita true
It cannot be denied.
evil eddy butthurt
evil eddy all she does is flawlessly perform her own song that she wrote with 19 years old and happens to be a fcking masterpiece ok bye
She's getting some Grammy's this year. She's so refreshing in a land of overly-perfect, sterotypically curated pop music.
I hope she does too cuz she deserves it :)
jabrown1978 watch my cover too please ☺
only nominated for one Grammy. Sad. Hope she wins tho
Lorde probably doesn't care that much about awards. She wants to sing her heart and express herself through music, she doesn't give a damn about credits, recognitions and praises.
She was robbed by Bruno Mars. Period. Flat out should be the Album of the Year. And Liability shouldve won Song and Record of the Year as well
She's ART
Another level of talented when you can't tell live vs. recorded

that's the most touching and sensible thing i've ever heard
Edson Garcia especially coming from someone like Lorde who always seems so strong and fierce in her songs. :( love her vulnerable heartbroken side and that she chose music to let it all out and share with the world. a really brave thing to do
Edson Garcia exactly what I thought. it's hard to express something like that so well in music. but thats why she's so amazing.
You clearly never listened to God Only Knows
The amazing thing about this song, is that, the first time you hear it you can't predict it. Seriously. It starts, and you don't know where it's going. A bit farther in, you think you get the idea of layout. And then it breaks all the rules. It's such an authentic experience. The lyrics break my heart. We're lucky she exists.
the raw emotion behind the whole song, especially 1:38-2:00, is so painfully relatable and heart breaking.
Literally sounds like the digital version, she's so good live.
Red she probably doesn't touch up her vocals much because she honestly doesn't need to
You can tell how much she's into it and her facial expressions tell it all and that's why I love her so much. Her music is raw and real, so much better than the stereotypical pop music you hear nowadays. Lorde will always be my favorite female artist; I have so much respect for her 🖤
I don't care how long Lorde would be in hiatus. True fans will never leave no matter what. The one who can sing and write her own music is the real artist worth the stan. 💗
This song was released 4 years ago, but still hit me like a truck. Cant wait for your Solar Power
I am always coming back to this video. This song talks to me in a deep way... it defines the way that I am feeling right now. Which is: completely lost and sad.
💔
Jaqueline Simedo sorry love. Time heals all wounds.
don't worry ;)
it gets better. or so ive heard. or whati keep hoping

Think of this as a suit of armour around you protecting you
Fuck!!!!! I LOVE U LORDE
The amount of pain in her voice, her face, the lyrics. Beautiful Lorde. Thank you for your art❤️
I love this song. It reaches right down into my chest and pricks my heart. I have my days where I've felt exactly like the lyrics. I'm scared my personality is a bit overpowering and a little intimidating. Some people have gotten to know me and then it's like they've had enough once they've discovered who I really am. I get this song. Thanks, Lorde.
1:10 - 1:12, she looks at the camera, tries to smile but you can see heartbreak while she's singing "you're a liability".
1:40 - 1:57 That feeling oh my god
Agreed
i know right

tHAT CRISP IN THE END SUNNN........ EEEEHHHHHNNNNNN
yOU ARE AMAZING LORDE
I just found this song in 2022 and I can't stop the feels. Thank you Lorde for writing this song.
Am I the only one who felt the song is too short?? 😔
MTM ManishThapaMagar It is indeed short and I would've loved for it to be longer yet at the same time, I feel like she brought the emotion perfectly in the time it is now. Maybe that would've come over less perfect if she lengthened the song
Louis Richard yeah that's true even...
ME TOO
Almost every song there ever was follows the following formula (or close to it):
Verse -> Chorus -> Verse -> Chorus -> Bridge -> Chorus
This song was as follows: Verse -> Chorus -> Verse -> Chorus
It felt short because it left off the last 2 sections that you have been conditioned to expect by almost every other song you've listened to.
yess. this was verse > chorus> verse> chorus. end
I love how she sounds, and I love the lyrics. While the first album is a celebration of youth and starting to grow up, of love and friendship, of the start of fame, the second album seems to be about exactly the opposite. Breakups, being too much, being an adult... it's amazing, because there's a few artist that you can see, not change, but grow up and mature, and I feel like Lorde is one of them
I fucking love Lorde and I ain't ashamed of it
not again.... even after watching this for nth time, I can't stop tearing up when she looks at the camera while singing 'They are gonna watch me disapper into the sun..'....
i actually cried my heart out watching this performance. she’s so intense you can feel it.
How is she so amazing ?
Sebastian Germaspea because she was born this way
Sebastian Germaspea I really love her
Sebastian Germaspea es la mejor de todas si
Sebastian Germaspea es que sus canciones tienen forma y fondo... y te tocan emocionalmente :')
No idea.... I just don't get it.
Lorde's songs are so poetic and she puts on a show with her emotion not just the typical display of sex appeal or cute dance routines, I think it's the first time SNL music portion caught my interest for more than just something to play in the background. This girl is super talented and amazing interesting +.+
tropicanahana OMG, same. Usually I dread the musical guests but that week, I watched just for her.
I swear Liability is the only song that comes to my mind when I am crying
the way she looks in the camera, it just pierces into my soul, like she could see riggt through me.
Giving some life to pop music.
rainier manguiat what the fuck this ain't rock
This song doesn't have any rock elements, and neither does Greenlight (which is pure dance-pop).
Lorde is pop... Pure Heroine is pop music... You all think pop music is just upbeat club songs or something, when it's not... Lorde, Lana Del Rey and all these "alternative" singers that people call them... they're not alternative. They're pop singers. Liability is a pop ballad. Green Light is a dance-pop song... Just because she received an alternative rock award doesn't mean Lorde is rock. She's pop. Alternative music is so different
When I think about alternative rock, I remember bands that gained popularity in the 1990s (Oasis, Eve 6, Soundgarden, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer). Lorde does not come to mind.
Zach Kissinger YES. great point.
What a gorgeous human being
6 years later, this performance and song still has a chokehold on me
WHO THE FUCK HURT YOU LORDE?!!!
This is just such a beautiful emotional song that helps all those people going through tough times thank you Lorde for another amazing song
Finally, a singer who sounds the same, and even better, live!!!! She is so real and incredibly talented. My hero :) I mean, HOW??? She is SO incredible!! I can't stop listening :). She has outstanding vocal control, and I love watching her face as she sings. Every expression is agony, depth of emotion and beauty....there is such life in her face that so many don't have. I love her so much! I would never be bored of her....I wish I could dance in her storm.
Definitely my favorite part:
..I'll go home
Into the arms of the girl that I love
The only love I haven't screwed up...
Besides everything that can happen this is the love that we need to keep and never screw up.
Great song I cant stop listening.
Andrea Magdalena omfg i was so dumb, i just realized what this verse means lol
It’s about herself. She’s not lesbian. She said that all a stranger would see is a girl dancing alone stroking her cheek.
The girl is SHE. The message, love yourself FIRST. Lorde is straight btw.
Same, this my favourite part, together with "they're all gonna watch me disappear into the sun"
"...but all that a stranger would see, is one girl, swaying alone, stroking her cheek..."
That line took me unaware. Like, at the end of it all, we're all we have
There's so much passion in her voice❤️
Lorde is so talented. She's my favorite singer!!

I love how on stage Lorde can sound EXACTLY like she does in the audio. I just wish this song was longer it's great😍😍😥
this is the best live performance she's ever done it was absolutely phenomenal
The raw emotion in her voice...a goddess.
This is such a beautiful, emotional song! Is there a meaning to what she's wearing?
It looks like a wedding dress
she's marrying music :) (her way)
Rose Rain Music she likes wearing dryer sheets
just her style,
well the new album is called melodrama...
I love singers who doesn't use autotunes in their songs. Especially Lorde.😍😍
The way she looks at the camera when she said “Your all gonna watch me disappear into the sun” really hit home for me
I love the part when she's sings *" eh eh annana everyone "*
This is a stunningly beautiful performance...The thing that stays with me is Lorde and Jack bracing each other at the end. She was in pain, emotionally, and he was there for her. The audience is clapping and cheering, but that quiet little moment, shared between two artists, was the loveliest thing I've seen on the SNL musical stage.
I like the song, lorde's voice, and the melody of this song making me calm :)
god I hate how much I relate to this song. lorde is so authentic and emotional in all the music she makes - she makes it for herself and I SO respect that. keep doing what you're doing lorde! we love you
this song's live is better than the studio version??? I just really love lorde performing live like she really means everything she says. Thanks, Lorde.
