Hey guys I am a 21 year old songwriter based in New York. if you like sad singer songwriter songs like this one I think you may enjoy my new song entitled "Crumbling Constellations" you can check out the video on my channel! :)
I think the music video is about the painting Orphelia, that depicts a woman who has lived a life awaiting happiness. She has fallen into a river from a tree overhanging it, while gathering flowers. She lies in the water singing songs, as if unaware of her danger ("incapable of her own distress"). Her clothes, trapping air, have allowed her to temporarily stay afloat ("Her clothes spread wide, / And, mermaid-like, awhile they bore her up."). But eventually, "her garments, heavy with their drink, / Pull'd the poor wretch from her melodious lay" down "to muddy death."
I understand where you're coming from, based on a few water scenes that resemble the painting, but Ophelia is actually a character from Shakespeare's Hamlet, which the painting is based on. Ophelia kills herself by drowning because Hamlet appears to not love her anymore. "She drowned herself in her own defense." To me, this video seems happier than that. Lorde is revelling in her perfect places, surrounded by natural beauty.
ramona good point but You don't "blow your brains out to the radio" when you're happy. She's going to all these different places and trying all of these differnt things but still not finding happiness. In the end she asks "What the fuck [Sic] are perfect places, anyway?". She also calls the night "graceless" a technical theological term basically meaning "God forsaken". So it seems like the lyrics might support the Ophelia interpretation, especially the album deals a lot with her break up and Ophelia kills herself after Hamlet rejects her (and kills her father by accident).
Love it... hun u got me through the worst domestic violence yrs.. I thank u for that.... I use to along till he realised I was getting compliments on my singing and he hates that so he started to strangle me so now it's hard.. thank you lordes...x
I've reviewed, Melodrama is completely empowered masterpiece, both lyrically and musically. In compared to some of the contemporary pop artists, this album is by far an outstanding creation, that successfully bring strong vibrant emotions to the music
this song is so relatable and brings me good memories of my life right now. idk why i’m feeling nostalgic and reflective about it when i’m literally living it. it reminds me of my last hook up and this time my friend and i met up with these random boys on a beach at night.

I remember when I was 20 this song was like a hymn to me, like I just felt so tired to keep looking for "perfect" places, drinking, parting, pleasing people just in hope they will stay, and this song always cheered me up as yeah fuck all that and now 25+ I just sit and cry rivers as fuck there were perfect places when you are full of joy, youngness and carefree and now everything is just dull and I hate it hate what everyone doing their "grown up" stuff, busy with schedules and ultimately does not want to speak about like feelings, dreams, silly but meaningful things now all I want is a glimpse of perfect places and not to be alone Lorde is genius and Melodrama is the most holding by time album I heard
i just found out about this song and i cant believe i missed out on this for too long, its literally my favorite song right now i play this on repeat a lot and this song just makes me forget about stressful things keep living life like there is nothing to worry about :)
i'm just happy she doesn't get used to fame and knows when to stop. makes me think that she just entered this industry not for popularity but for just the hell of it.
I feel like the scenes in which she dances around with the light bulb, where she moves the light bulb around her head, suggest that the light bulb symbolises all the ideas that are swirling around in her head, not letting her sleep etc. Then at the end, she's like "fuck it" and swings it for the last time and leaves the room (leaves those ideas behind).
@@stardolphin783 her mind though 🤯 I love the fact that we have crossovers from Pure Heroine to Melodrama to Solar Power. She created this little Lorde universe where the songs are connected in some way and I'm loving it

@@sliperysid Umm did we hear the same song?? I absolutely love it. It’s a new sound with the same feel of Lorde and the music video is symbolic. It’s amazing.
Yeah, but everything is only worth the value you give it. Many hobbies you could pick up and find passion in, some chances that aren't out of our reach.
I'm turning 18 in 10minutes and I'm listening to all of Lorde's songs to kiss my childhood goodbye EDIT: It's October 16th, my birthday again. I turn 20 today. It's so surreal to officially no longer be a teen despite never even having experienced many "teenage" things. I graduated high school, and started college. I realized I was going to be friends with my old friends forever (they're so amazing) but at the same time feel like I won't ever make friends as good again. I was 19 and on fire (as one commenter pointer out!) and I thought about giving an update last year too but I didn't end up doing so. Honestly adulthood, even though I experienced so little of it as a college student, is tough. I feel constantly lost in regard to my classes, my career, my hopes, and myself. Every year I seem to get the birthday blues because there's this huge expectation for you to be happy, that you know you're disappointing the important people in your life when you aren't. Yet, the best part of making this comment is that fact that every once in a while, someone, maybe even in the middle of July, would wish me happy birthday. And that would make me happy. Because an internet stranger took the effort, had the intention, to want me to be a little bit happier, and I was. So thank you, everyone who wished me happy birthday. Oh look at that, it's perfectly 12am on 10/17 so it's no longer my birthday. See you guys next year potentially? Best wishes to everyone, I hope your joys continue and your pains ease soon.
In Solar Power she said "blink three times when you feel it kicking in¨ and at the end of this video she blinks three times. THIS B IS ALWAYS MAKING REFERENCES OF HER PAST SONGS
It's kinda sad, Lana opened the door for Lorde and Lorde gets two Grammys and then Lorde to Billie and she gets record breaking four for main catagories. But meanwhile, Lana still doesnt even have one. Trailblazers arent getting proper recognition. Lorde deserved better
Tyler Brenden i think they both did. there albums are only 1 year apart. and honestly lana and lorde don’t even belong in the same category they are so different.
You know what's so cool about this? This is how us "normal" people dance. Not saying dancers are'nt or something but you see all these famous people dancing and you know they be faking it. The way lorde dances, yes she gets made of fun of for it, but that's legit how i dance in my room. When i feel like i'm alone and i have all the freedom to do whatever i want. I guess that's what adolescence is, feeling alone yet so free, doing as we please. I don't what point i was trying to make but this is what i had to say. She dances like she feels the music, it doesnt feel choreographed, it's sporadic and spontaneous and that is the embodiment of youth. I know she's an adult but her and her music will always be an embodiment of youth and adolescence.
“She dances like she feels the music” that’s the exactly same thing I though when I watched her performing for the first time in 2014, I didn’t like it by first, but I rediscovered her art some years later and here I’m, worshiping all her songs and clips and everything else
@@bradmetzger8631 I can kinda see it. "Every night I live and die" so, every day she's born and dies a hero. But, "all of our hero's fading" meaning she's slowly dying, and she can't "Stand to be alone" as in all the heroes are already dead or are also fading. She's the only one in the music video, wishing for Perfect Places (Perhaps where nobody dies, especially heroes) but if heroes are fading, then Perfect Places don't exist. It's definitely contrived, but, oh well.
@@bradmetzger8631 she was referencing to bowies death and many other artists death that died in the past few years that she might consider her "heroes"
Director "OK.... we need a machete, a straw hat, some pantaloons and seven bridesmaid's dresses " Agent "Don't be stupi" Lorde "Let's hear this out..."

To the ones I never had, the ones I wish I could change and to all the ones that did happen that I would never change. She just gets you going and thinking about everything at the same damn time. Fucking amazing to see live
@Nestea's Iced Company sério? ela diz na música que toda música fala sobre luxos e _"Royals"_ foi a música que abriu portas para ela ter todos os luxos que ela tem atualmente
@@Cryogenius333 Royals basically paved the way for slow beat pop/edm music genre to the mainstream media. I think there is a RUclips documentary about that.
spill if lana paved the way for sad core alt pop music lorde paved the way for minimalistic alternative, dark pop music making them the alternative pop queens who paved the way for the likes of billies, olivias, clairos, conans, halseys etc.
Seriously all her songs age like fine wine. Her music uniquely are always ahead of our time. If u don't like one of her songs now, u come back a few years later, listen to it again and it's like u just found your new favorite song haha
I know it's not just me, this song feels like the end of the teenage era. All the love, kisses, evenings, sunsets, lovers, heartbreaks, friends, adventures... It's full of youth, but at the same time it's sad. This makes me smile, but at the same time, it makes me want to cry. It creates images on my mind that never existed before in my life. This... This take me to perfect places.
Presumably that's because you're about 20, Ivan M. It's really not all that special a song musically, compared to many songs from 1960s through to the end of the 90s and a few in 00s. But there's enough social media and millenial 'breathless unsmiling girl who replaced manic pixie girl' fans to give these chancers a very well paid fantasy that they're 'greats'. Because they truly are 'chancers' to mostly repackage what, say, Lana del Ray once did. It's not like singers are building something solid like a house. It relies on opinion - and mostly the opinion of phone and social media and virtue signalling obsessed skinny latte skinny brained 12-25 or whatever year olds. And I certainly don't mean all of them. I mean the self appointed 'hipsters'. See Being a dickhead's cool song.
Yea it reminds me of ...the stage where you want the best for yourself but you yourself don't know what is the best for you...as for take us to perfect places..but wtf are perfect places? ..you get me??

I genuinely believe PERFECT PLACES and 400 LUX are some of the best songs ver made.
I love the part where she goes
*Are you lost enough*
*Have another drink, get lost in us*
Ella must have had a really big hammer in her clutch bag as she absolutely nailed this track ... ♡
Everything that's glitters is not gold and Lordie is that. ✨💖💕🦋
This song gives me chills EVERY fucking time...unreal🔥🔥🔥
in Imagination there also Lays truth.
I remember when I was 20 this song was like a hymn to me, like I just felt so tired to keep looking for "perfect" places, drinking, parting, pleasing people just in hope they will stay, and this song always cheered me up as yeah fuck all that
and now 25+ I just sit and cry rivers as fuck there were perfect places when you are full of joy, youngness and carefree
and now everything is just dull and I hate it
hate what everyone doing their "grown up" stuff, busy with schedules and ultimately does not want to speak about like feelings, dreams, silly but meaningful things
now all I want is a glimpse of perfect places and not to be alone
Lorde is genius and Melodrama is the most holding by time album I heard
Queria essa Lorde de volta! melodrama forever!
everything about this is beautiful
not abby. Everything about this is average

Tell me this isn't one of the greatest songs of all time and I'll expose a liar.
She's really a Lorde amazing she is her voice is power every word she speaks is energy
seriosly, how tf did Bruno win over this??!!
Popular vote.. it has to be
the way that bruno is the worst album out of all 5 yet still won lol grammy is a joke
@@hrama17 exactly, if it's not Lorde at least it should go to Jay-Z. 24 K is a noise
By paying the Grammy voters. Lorde plays every game fair and square.

i just found out about this song and i cant believe i missed out on this for too long, its literally my favorite song right now i play this on repeat a lot and this song just makes me forget about stressful things keep living life like there is nothing to worry about :)
Do yall think this is the same beach we see in Solar Power??
Maybe and I think she already found her perfect places.
that's what i thought too
It looks like it, but it wasn't there. she filmed perfect places in hawaii
Its real modern stream of 2017-2022
She did disappear into the sun :( I can't live anymore-
i'm just happy she doesn't get used to fame and knows when to stop. makes me think that she just entered this industry not for popularity but for just the hell of it.
Listening to the Queen still in Sep 2024.
When is the world going to realize she is the most beautiful woman ever?
Shes a cunt lol
It's enough if all the sane people realize it

The best women's pop music artist to me is LORDE, fullest expression of pop music 🥂
Omg i love video it's art!
really? it's nicely shot but there's no story, she just kind of walks around
Arranadam Sheikh The concept of the video is totally related to the song. Lorde in "perfect places" alone.
MNSPACEROVER then why are you listening to her song if you don't like her?
lorde was so right when she sang "what the fuck are perfect places"
TE AMO LORDE YA ACABE LA PREPA Y ME SIENTO ASI AYUDAAA
I love this song so thank you ❤️
I feel like the scenes in which she dances around with the light bulb, where she moves the light bulb around her head, suggest that the light bulb symbolises all the ideas that are swirling around in her head, not letting her sleep etc.
Then at the end, she's like "fuck it" and swings it for the last time and leaves the room (leaves those ideas behind).
Your mind
@@stardolphin783 her mind though 🤯
I love the fact that we have crossovers from Pure Heroine to Melodrama to Solar Power. She created this little Lorde universe where the songs are connected in some way and I'm loving it

@@sliperysid Umm did we hear the same song?? I absolutely love it. It’s a new sound with the same feel of Lorde and the music video is symbolic. It’s amazing.

This made me cry - normally whenever things aren’t going right in my life she shows up but she hasn’t yet
I'm turning 18 in 10minutes and I'm listening to all of Lorde's songs to kiss my childhood goodbye
EDIT: It's October 16th, my birthday again.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday!
"It drives you crazy getting old"
Welp I feel like this can be called as wholesome... Right?
Happy belated birthday!
Lorde has been gone for too long now, if you ever wonder where she is... She's in Perfect Places.

SHE NEEDS TO COMEBACK NOW!
"You can find it in your mind"
u tellin me she died??
Seriously dude. But we have a gag-load of moody young women in pop who are clones (Caroline Polachek, Clairo, Kali Ucha etc) but we need Lorde
In Solar Power she said "blink three times when you feel it kicking in¨ and at the end of this video she blinks three times. THIS B IS ALWAYS MAKING REFERENCES OF HER PAST SONGS

She deserved Billie’s success. I don’t care.

Tyler Brenden lana didn’t open the door for lorde
@@coltonnb She brought Alt pop/Indie pop and moody tunes to the mainstream
Tyler Brenden i think they both did. there albums are only 1 year apart. and honestly lana and lorde don’t even belong in the same category they are so different.
Coming back to listen to this album every-once and again is self therapy.
Boworna HAHAHAH FACTS
"every once and again" or like thrice a week works too right
You know what's so cool about this?
Tanisha Shriyan in love with this comment so much
Dude gg you made words of my blurry mind
Wish I could like a comment more than once
“She dances like she feels the music” that’s the exactly same thing I though when I watched her performing for the first time in 2014, I didn’t like it by first, but I rediscovered her art some years later and here I’m, worshiping all her songs and clips and everything else
Watching her in Yellow Flicker Beat is is a treat in itself even without the music being considered
“ we can be heroes just for one day “
- David Bowie
“ All of our hero’s fading “
-Lorde
I don't get the connection. There are a tons of songs that reference heros. I don't get it. 🤔
@@bradmetzger8631 isn't she influenced by Bowie so she maybe referencing his death

20s which you presumably still are is still young, you have your whole life ahead of you don't lament doing or not doing whatever as a teen.
To the ones I never had, the ones I wish I could change and to all the ones that did happen that I would never change. She just gets you going and thinking about everything at the same damn time. Fucking amazing to see live
just a reminder lorde changed the pop music history with the song "royals"
@Nestea's Iced Company sério? ela diz na música que toda música fala sobre luxos e _"Royals"_ foi a música que abriu portas para ela ter todos os luxos que ela tem atualmente
And how, pray tell, did she do that?
Royals is by empowerment song😭
@@Cryogenius333 Royals basically paved the way for slow beat pop/edm music genre to the mainstream media. I think there is a RUclips documentary about that.
spill if lana paved the way for sad core alt pop music lorde paved the way for minimalistic alternative, dark pop music making them the alternative pop queens who paved the way for the likes of billies, olivias, clairos, conans, halseys etc.
how does a person take so much pain and turn it into something so fucking beautiful

omg that's a fact!!! best comment ever
Ivan M. That was a beautiful read.
im almost 24 next month this song makes me feel sad like i need to grow up for real
Agreed!
