- Two Piece Hood Pattern Making [Pattern Making Tutorial]
Have you noticed all hood pattern's neckdrops are different even if you see the final garments look the same? Neck drop doesn't really impact overall design-wise, but it makes a difference around your neckline. The hood can be either more standing and embracing your back neck, or sitting on your shoulder more.
In this video, I show you how to draft 2-piece hood patterns. You can draw your design lines whatever and however you want, but you will learn what are the basic factors you should keep for hood patterns.
The hood patterns I’m drafting in this video are two-piece hoods, left and right sides. And they meet at the center front. So when I measured neck length from the body patterns, I didn’t measure extension.

👩 About me 👩
My name is Jin Kim and I have been a professional pattern maker for over 20 years.
While I had one-on-one teaching besides my full-time work, I could teach only a few people. So, I created a RUclips channel in 2021 to reach out to more people so that they can get benefits from my experience.
This channel is all about pattern makings. You’re in the right place if you are a young professional or a fashion student who wants to improve your pattern-making skills.

@@PatternStudio101 I'm also more of a visual learner so I would have liked that too!
maybe you can include sketches (or reference images from online photos) showing how the different shapes effect how the hood would drape/act, just as a rough baseline idea.

Care you a clear demo on circle skirts 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, full and a double circle skirts.
What do the different design lines on the front look like when constructed?
I followed instantly bc your cat 🐈
thank you so much for making this channel, I have found it very helpful over these past two weeks, I was just wondering, what software do you use?
The program I'm using is PAD system.

Cat: Mother? Mommy? MA!
Hi Jin. Thank you so so much for all your videos. Is this hood including an overlap at the front? If not, how do I add that? Thanks
When you measure the front neck length along the curve, you extend the amount of your extension (watch the video 3:08-3:12)
Sorry I am new at this. Does it mean that I make deeper curve to get the length or do I extend the horizontal line (the first horizontal line that you draw. Back neck and front neck). Thank you for teach me
@@tdodo3026 hi, watch the video 3:08-3:12. At that stage, you can extend a horizontal line from the center front.
From HSP, you measure back neck length and front neck length along the curved line. And extend your front extension. Does that make sense?
Yes. I will try that. Thanks Jin.
@@tdodo3026 no problem 😊
hi! what is the softwear you use to draw the patterns?
This is PAD system.
Nice job. What software are you using for design?
This is PAD system. Thank you 😊
How do you want me to measure the back neck. You dont have any instruction as far as I can see
hi! i have a question, why is the center front neck point not at the end of the line and how much do you recede? thank you! 💗
You measure the front neck length along the curve. From the high shoulder point.
@@PatternStudio101 tysm 🙏🏻
How is this pattern cut????? Is it flipped to make one piece ? I’m not understanding why you would like a seam up the middle. Please respond
I don't understand your question. Please explain with more details.
Hello! I can I find my front neck drop for a front cowl neck?
Sorry, I don’t understand the question. Can you tell me more details?
@@PatternStudio101 Sorry! The front neck drop is from the shoulder to the center front, right? But if shirt is a cowl neck (where the front drapes into the breast instead of having a high neckline) how do I measure the front neck drop?
@shamirjohnson325 Technically, you can't measure the neck drop for the cowl neck tops.
You're so cute and helpdul!!!!
He wants to be pet! You have to pet him!
He just wanted to bother me lol He doesn't like me to pet him 🤣
I don't know what HSP stands for in the tutorial.
High Shoulder point!
I need help😂. I tried to draw pattern, but hood depth is wider than center back, why?
Hood depth can be bigger than the center back. So you can draw a curved line.
@@PatternStudio101 Thank you for your response.😊
I don't understand the neck line seems too much like is it on fold
Hi, I don't understand your question properly. Can you explain in detail?
Hi
Wht is the name of the app?
@@Noya_Family Did you mean the program I’m using? It’s PAD system.
