    Guessing a portable power tool chuck is always going to be a lighter construction that a machine tool one, impressive accuracy.
    Nothing amiss with your wiring and enclosure layouts 👌.
    Thanks for sharing

    Ade, I just bought a box of chucks at an auction, what a coincidence, that chuck is for a cordless drill, but I will send you a precision one. All the best Ade.

    I am currently converting my old 9x20 lathe to stepper control. It will use LinuxCNC, but the CNC part of it is secondary - until I sort out a spindle encoder and can do screwcutting. (When I put a stepper on the X-axis of my milling machine I told myself that it was a cheap way of motorising the axis and getting repetitive strain injusry from too much cranking (ah! that takes me back to my youth!). Before I knew it it had become a full 3+1 axis CNC!)
    I use XLR 4-way to connect stepper motors. It is possible to buy pre-made cable with them - but they're pricey.
    A also use the aviation connector that you use, but only for signal wire.
    I wouldn't be without my Knipex auto strippers (12 52 195) - they don't knick the conductor, and work on a wide range of insulation/conductor sizes without changing settings. As a lad I couldn't afford any strippers (even the Bib ones) so used my front teeth; they're now crowned!

    Coming along nicely Ade! I do like your little chuck, I bought a very similar 13mm from Axminster many years ago for my wood lathe but now use it exclusively on the metal lathe has never let me down! Hope to see this up n running soon. TFS, GB :)

    Blunt knife - that takes me back. First day at technical college for the practical part of our mechanical engineering degree and we almost picked a fight with the electrical lecturer over this. It didn't help that the knives he gave up were very blunt indeed. He got very grumpy with our lip and was disappointed when he couldn't pull off a lamp holder I had wired. Happy days.

      I have seen nicked cables so many times and it bugs me . blunt knife works for me for this job , I do like a good sharp blade when needed though . Cheers Ade.

    Would a good way to check a chuck be to put a piece of precision drill-rod in the chuck, and then run a clock on the rod at a low speed?

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  Год назад +1

      yes. and check along a length to check alignment as well as concentricity at one point . Cheers Ade

    Ade, regarding the WM180 lathe, is there any way to increase the clearance between the headstock casting and the back of the chuck mounting plate? Getting the holding nuts on and off is really tricky. Many thanks.

    Just watched this latest video, I have watched all your videos although I mainly restore torsion clocks so I watch for how you do things not necessarily what you make, I like your videos because you show exactly what you are doing although I have just moved from a Pultra 17/70 to a Myford ML10 and added Rocketronics ELS because I have gammy hands but I can press buttons but I am having trouble getting the total depth correct so if possible could you do a video on how you cut single point threads as I have to put pitch, length of thread, and total depth into the ELS then the ELS works out how many runs to get to required depth, that’s the bit I am having trouble with and I know I am not the only one.

    Hello Ades. Keith has an important question with your WM 16B Mill. I'm now looking for one, about the same size, yours. And has the ability to turn the head, 45 to 90 degrees. Do you really recommend me to buy, a mill with this feature. I assume you use this for milling angles. Please respond to this message. Thank you 😊

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  Год назад

      I have never needed to tilt the head yet , so I guess it is not really needed . But It may come in useful one day . Thanks Ade.

      @ADES WORKSHOP Keith says thanks for your reply. I have plenty in size for the Lathe I own. This Mini Mill doesn't have enough capacity. And also lacks table size. You are the first person I spoke with. Consider having a fixed vertical head. Or with a moving head like you have. So you can make mitered / milled cuts. I seen the video, took it apart. So you could get it into your shop. Good week Ades!!

  • @melgross

    That new Rohm is a portable drill chuck. It’s not a machine chuck. They’re not as accurate as your machine Rohm chucks. They also don’t hold as well. Definitely not for carbide mill bits.
    Don’t believe the Locking concept. Manufacturers of these chucks have said the rotating it back that way does NOT lock anything. I think we went through this once before.

    Cutting with a knife on a machine table is almost as bad as leaving a coffee cup on the table. First week of apprenticeship kind of thing you learn not to do - mainly coz your foreman has given you a clip around the ear😂

    That thing about tightening a chuck, and then undoing it one click "locking it" has been proven to be incorrect Ade.
    AvE did a couple of videos debunking it.

    Really disappointed Ade that you take such a cavalier attitude to radio interference. For people with an active interest in radio, the proliferation of poorly suppressed appliances can totally ruin their hobby.

    • @stevedavey1343

      And the proliferation of that feeling when you realise the cable you ordered isn't screened but you want to get the damn thing you're doing, done is liable to ruin the day of anyone who cares too much about other peoples' different hobbies. 😂
      Eh, I'd have shrugged my shoukders and said to myself ''Eh...fekk it", just like Ade did. 😂
