Ades, Keith wanted to say! Have a wonderful new year. The past 2023, was appreciated to see the various machine procedures that you have used. After I finally made some positive changes, with my Lathe. Both X and Y is moving much smoothly.

Bonus episode - I wasn't expecting another before the new year!
I enjoy seeing you tailor the mini-lathe for a narrower mission, with the Warco remaining the versatile workhorse. A bit like the roughing and finishing lathes of yesteryear.
Best wishes to everyone for the New Year!

Nice job on the carriage stops Ade. I also have a problem with larger drills, and not enough Z height on the mill with this vice. Some time ago I bought a set of Alpen stub drills which solved the problem. Cheers Nobby

Looking good Ade. When I was at caterpillar running a vertical cnc mill, we ran a small parts vise mounted just a 1/4 in from one side of the table and left it zeroed in for quick access work. If we needed a different holding point vise or had to clamp a part on the table we had room to shift over and not alter the main vise settings. Happy New Year.

I really enjoy your videos. I have a import vise like that one and a grinding vise a little smaller then the one you have. For most things I prefer the grinding vise. Not sure why,

Why is the fly cutter so often used instead of a face cutter?
You used a 45 degree cutter making a 90 degree cut. From other videos, other lathes, the angle is sometimes, often(?) more than 90 degrees. It looks like You got the clamping force You need.
Wish You a Happy New Year!

I use the fly cutter because it is cheap tooling and quick to regrind by hand. leaves a nice finish also. It also needs less power to run on a small mill like mine. Cheers Ade.

Use shorter parallels to give you more headroom?

So. Maybe it's time to make a riser for the column now.???

    • @ade63dug

with the head at max now it is 5mm from the shed roof . I would need a riser for the shed roof or cut the bench down . I can't see it causing that many issues other than slowing tool changes down a bit . Cheers Ade.

What if you made an arbour for the mini lathe drill chuck that locates in the ER32 taper? This would be a quick way to line thing up.

    • @ade63dug
      @ade63dug  8 месяцев назад

that would work . Cheers Ade.

Good video but what stops the lathe from keeping power on the travel when it hits the stop. You look good with your top teeth in as well. Lol

nothing to cut out the stepper motor yet , but it would be easy to fit a limit switch if needed. Cheers Ade.
