1:42 The way those PNG carts work: the game data comes appended after the end of the actual PNG image, so Pico-8 PNGs are essentially 2-in-1binaries that can be interacted with as normal pictures. Simple, but effective.

"There are 100's of Pico 8 games." Wrong, there's about 18,000 completed, incomplete, and demo games as well as "hello world" games. Of those, there are about 5000 playable games and of those, there are about 2000 of the best (that I'm currently curating). The best handheld for Pico 8 games is the Powkiddy RGB30 and it's actually great for any Retro games too from PS1 or older.

Small nitpick: I believe "Birds with Guns" is mostly inspired by "Nuclear Throne", although "Hotline Miami" has rather similar gameplay.
You gotta give hot wax a try! It's a tetris style clone with some really cool different gameplay to it. It's not just completing a line to wipe it away, you burn the candles and over time the candles will melt. They also have bombs to increase the effect. I've never had so much fun with a tetris game before. Love the video! Been really getting into pico 8 on the miyoo mini and came across your video. Thanks for the awesome, unique suggestions!
I know this isn't related to anything you said, but did you ever try the ZX spectrum? This console just reminded me of playing it when I was a kid. I had a game called Jet Set Willy which sort of looked graphically like diddy kong. Just gave me a flashback to it lol

I have not, but I have wanted to try emulating the ZX Spectrum and playing some of the games.
