    28:00 the writers actually knowing what the Federation is and not assuming it's a different name for Starfleet makes me happy. So Trek many writers just interchange the words at random and it's annoying.

    • @Agent_1701-D
      @Agent_1701-D 3 года назад +6

      I find that refreshing as well. It’s nice to know that they know the Federation is the union to which Starfleet is its representative fleet with exploratory, scientific, peacekeeping, humanitarian, and diplomatic duties as their primary focus.

      The writers and producers of Trek animated series in general do seem to know their Trek better than the live action ones... the animated series thus far have been able to keep note of the little details. And while the occasional error did show up... those were minor if you ask me. That's basically how live action is supposed to be as well.

    • @retromillenium
      @retromillenium 3 года назад +1

      The only reference of the Federation and Starfleet being interchangeable was in Star Trek (2009) when Pike meets Kirk at the bar.
      Please point out in Discovery or Picard where the two terms were interchangeable, because I don't recall it ever happening.

    • @stankyyboi
      @stankyyboi 3 года назад

      @@retromillenium okay just off the top of my head, how about in Season 2 of Discovery when Reno(a veteran Starfleet officer) looks at the Starfleet delta and says "I recognized your Federation logo" or in Lower Decks season 2 when a Vulcan ship and a Starfleet ship are fighting Klingons who then point to the Starfleet ship and say "target the Federation ship" when both are Federation ships.
      PIC was actually very good at never interchanging the words.

    • @retromillenium
      @retromillenium 3 года назад

      @@stankyyboi Those are good catches. I missed those.
      However, why is this a problem? It's pretty obvious from countless hours of other Star Trek shows and movies that this is an organization, a para-military one, that is part of a much larger organization.
      It's actually quite realistic. Not everyone is going to view Starfleet and the Federation in the same way, not even some of the Federation's own citizen. Perhaps Jet Reno identifies that Starfleet symbol as one and the same as the Federation.
      This point of view, that the Federation and Starfleet being one and the same, would hold even more true from an outside perspective. Some Klingons might view Starfleet as one and the same as the Federation considering most encounters with the Federation will be in the form of a Starfleet ship.
      To say the writers don't understand the difference between the two sounds like a straw man. It seems people are trying to grasp at any straw to denigrate the writing team, and to make it look like they know absolutely nothing about the Star Trek universe. It really does seem like grasping at straws for a cheap shot.
      I've seen all of the aforementioned shows, and found them quite thoughtful regarding the nuances of established Star Trek canon and history.

      Agreed. It seems that those who have created the two new animated series are doing a better job at bringing Star Trek stories that bring out the best of what Star Trek is about. It gives me hope that Strange New Worlds will truly bring us great Trek stories. NOW, the powers that be at the studio level need to rescind their prohibitions on fan produced Trek stories and embrace and encourage that as Disney has done with Star Wars fan films. Let the Axinar people get back on track to produce their Klingon Wars film and allow the people who did STOS Continuing Missions create new shows too.

    Thanks for the vid Wil, always a pleasure. Let's start this off by addressing the FREQUENT "criticism " with this series. YES this series seems very much in the veign of Clone Wars, Rebrls, Resistance and Bad Batch. But THAT'S NOT AN ISSUE. Particularly given how popular those shows were 1 popular and 2 (as the Showrunners have said) grew the fanbase. Ok that's out of the way now to the positives. Ok so we have A LOT of Alpha quadrant species at that labor and prison camp. I saw Alurian, Catian in conjunction with Tellarite and Medusan. Which we'll talk about that later. They teased a fair amount of how things are going to happen and I'm along for the ride. The pacing was quick but because of how much is being set up, it's completely understandable. From the tease we got about the Diviner allowing the kidnapping of species from across multiple quadrants (orphans and prisoners) is a REAL fascinating concept, especially since we don't know what species Dal is. All in all, I enjoyed it and look forward to seeing how things play out. Also Jason Manzoukus(Adrian Pimento in 99, Derek in The Good Place)was born to play a Tellarite.

    Well, I think the first episode was a bit action-heavy, but it certainly shows a lot of potential for a genuinely great and engaging Star Trek show. One that can be cerebral and emotional and interesting with Del’s discovery of who and what he is, Zero being such an amazingly advanced being walking among ‘lesser’ beings, and the idea of these people who know nothing about the galaxy discovering it.
    It makes me excited for the rest of the series, even if I think the first episode was just an action based Hook.

    I'm 20 min into ep 1 - sadly I must continue tomorrow (too 🥱 sleepy). But I *had* to come on here to say that this show is the best looking all-CGI show I have seen to date!🤯 _These visuals are stunning!_
    I realize it's aimed at kids, but I'm really hoping that there's something for adults as well,¹ because as I said, _this looks incredible!_ IMO it looks even better than the final season of _The Clone Wars_ 🤫 (and that raised the bar pretty high). Admittedly, there's a distinctly different art style, so I'm not trying to make a direct one-to-one comparison. The *Prodigy* production team has impressed me with what can now be done.
    I hope they will be able to do more shows.² The wonderfully fluid animation. The fantastic art design. Their use of color and the stunning levels of detail. But above all (for me), the stunning cinematic shots, which are somehow imbued with a delightfully real-world or three-dimensional feel.
    *EDIT:* Forgot to mention. . .I will be back to watch this ep of _The Ready Room_ as well.
    *More! More! **_More!_*

    ¹ ─ Again, only 20 minutes in, but I have yet to see anything that leads me to believe they'll be talking _down_ to the audience. 😎👍
    ² ─ OMG, what I wouldn't give for a classic _STAR TREK_ era show (sans any overly comical exaggerated features) done by these folks! 🥰

    The first episode was awesome! I loved it! It's definitely boldly going where no Star Trek series has gone before! I'm so glad they're exploring other areas of the Star Trek universe besides being about another Starfleet crew and extending the universe even more. I'm so happy there are finally more animated Star Trek while I still love all the live action Star Treks as much! I can't wait to introduce my nieces to it! And I'm really happy to see Star Trek: Voyager's Captain Kathryn Janeway back in this series. Yay! I hope the real one will appear in the series at some point. I like that they bring us back to the Delta Quadrant on the other side of our galaxy where Star Trek: Voyager left off in its finale over 20 years ago, right before USS Voyager and her crew made it home back to the Alpha Quadrant to Federation space and Earth. And I'm loving the USS Protostar she almost looks like Voyager but smaller and I have to say she has the coolest looking bridge. Lol. I can't wait for the next episode and hearing more of Kate Mulgrew's voice of Captain Janeway! 😊🖖❤

    I really appreciate the quality of animation. Nicely detailed, 3D looking characters are so rare in current day serialized animation. All of the animated series that I like kind of look the same - Futurama, Lower Deck, Final Space, Disenchantment, Steven Universe - you could lift a character from one, insert into another, and the style wouldn't even clash. The only exception I've seen is Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia, and I immediately thought about it after seeing the trailer for Prodigy, so I'm not surprised to find out the same guys have worked on both.

    They have several child versions of previous characters to work with including Borg and even Q! A more "mature" version of Q's son Q would be a good lesson teacher as Q taught Picard and crew in ST:TNG.

Look at the preview for next week's episode, I got goosebumps looking at Spock representing the Vulcans, and seeing all of the hero ships from previous incarnations of Star Trek (including the shuttlecraft) being displayed. Prodigy is definitely going to boldly go where no one has gone before!

      @@ChristopherG1990 Thanks for your reply and please don't take my response as provoking an argument as I'm well aware of the events of Discovery Season 2 finale.
      Given the aftermath of the battle of Xahea do you feel the USS Discovery is referenced frequently at the academy or by historians and held in the same esteem as the Enterprise D, Defiant and Voyager? The Enterprise C is a hero ship I would think the battle at Narendra III would celebrated within Starfleet and the Klingon Empire. We all know what USS Discovery really did but to everyone not in the "know" what did they really do? 🤔

      @@good_teanice_house6789 if it is mentioned in the Academy history books then it’s probably a bold face lie. They lie about the Lantaru sector, telling people that the rift is a natural phenomenon when really it’s where they experimented with the Omega molecule.
