Looks like you know what you're doing - is this a service you offer? Mine needs doing, have the dreaded clatter, but looks like a lot of equipment & expertise needed. Not sure I'd want to take it to a regular garage to do. I want someone who's sympathetic to these engines, i.e. knows about the oil return valve and would check it!!
@DavesDiscoveriesChannel Thanks for the reply! I'm really struggling to find a garage that will do mine :(. One garage said they would only replace the camshaft & lifters if they did the cylinder head as well, as previous one they did failed again soon after. Wondering if that was due to the oil return valve issue you mention in the other video. At the price they were quoting it's probably more economic fitting a new engine!
Would be great to see a video of cam replacement Dave. Enjoying your videos which are very informative. I’ve got a 2.5 Bnz engine 185k and suspect that the cam and injector service will be next jobs on my list. I’ve just stripped down my webasto heater and about to refit.😊
@@DavesDiscoveriesChannel Thanks for the reply 👍🏻 I meant to add 'bolts' to the end of my question - the three stretch bolts that hold the camshaft gear clamp in place
@@McCreadie88 the cap bolt set I bought came with them. You can safely reuse the old ones there as they are under very little load and don’t need torquing down to the same spec as the actual bearing caps.
Please do a video on cam replacement would be real help great videos
I tried doing a video on this one but need another pair of hands really otherwise its hard to show what's going on.
Thanks for sharing. Gives me a starting point for what I need, to have my cam replaced.

Thanks for the compliment, unfortunately I’m just a hobbyist so I don’t offer it as a service

@@jonhatch107 it’s possibly because they used a cheap cast cam shaft

@@TheRobbie40 I wish I had recorded it 🫣 I didn’t have enough hands unfortunately.
Thanks for the feedback though it’s appreciated
Did you make a video about replacing the camshaft
I was trying to while I did the job but ran out of hands 🫣

@@sleepeasywithwhitenoise3860 I do have the locking tool set, they aren't that expensive on ebay :)
Do you possibly have the part number for the camshaft outer bearing clamp? (Left hand side of the engine as you sit in the car)
The bearing caps are all line bored to the head, they are not available separately
